So the reason it has three stars is because the food is bland and flavorless. Yes the service is crazy slow but yk to expect that based on the reviews. Don’t think you’re special and you’d get some other sort of treatment. But the veggie stew. Na man. Oily and flavorless.

How does food this bland persist in a market as competitive as Manhattan’s? The egg sandwich was flavorless, and they didn’t have any hot sauces available to make it at least a little bit tasty. The egg scramble was similarly unexciting.

I stumbled upon this place solely by accident. I was waiting on a friend to get money from the ATM and I decided to get a cup of coffee. I did not like how the customer service was very quick and they did not get my coffee right. The coffee was very bland and it was a bit pricey. 3.25 $ for a cup and they did not get the order right. I did however like the ambience this place had to offer. That was probably the highlight of my experience.

Extremely poor service, we waited for 15 minutes and saw two tables who came in after us get their orders taken. On our way out, I brought the matter to the server attention and she claimed she didn’t see us. The restaurant wasn’t even filled to capacity. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The staff had a very care free attitude.

We had the chance to find this senegalese bakery on the first day we arrived in Harlem. I had the waffles with syrup and bacon while my gf chose the healthier version(with fruit). We liked it so much we came back the day after. We had some croissants, the waffles again, and it was good. For the price, this place is a good brunch & breakfast spot. On the service side, the staff was nice and friendly, and if you speak French, you might make the staff smile, too!

Walking around Harlem desperately searching for a coffee shop so I was relieved to find this one and wow how fancy can you get with all the French words for sandwiches & cafes etc. HOWEVER all I had was a latte which was great BUT for a fancy café with French words, I expected a china cup not cardboard. I intensively dislike this American habit of serving coffee in cardboard whilst seated. Its cheap, it spoils the taste and its uncool. I did have any of the cakes, tarts etc but they did look gloriously delicious and next time I will try one.

Do you feel like sitting for twenty-five or thirty minutes waiting for a waiter or waitress to come even say hello? Do you feel like being completely ignored? Do you feel like trying to wade through a menu that looks and reads like it was designed by a drunk five-year-old? Then Patisserie Des Ambassades is the place for you! We arrived at around 10:40 and were seated immediately. The first thing I noticed: the menus are awful. Really just terrible. Random fonts strewn everywhere, as if a tornado ripped through a Kansas typeface factory. Misspellings abounded: Anyone feel like eating some desert? Yah, I didn’t think so, either. At the top of the menu in large font(of course, probably a different font than anywhere else on the menu, because hell, who needs coherence?): Parties of 3 or More 18% Gratuity Added? Seriously? Three people? If you want to include gratuity in the bill, that’s fine, but bake it into the prices like serious restaurants have started doing. More to the point, the menu is uninspired: a random, nearly incoherent collection of dishes from various cuisines. I’m told the pastries are good. I wouldn’t know. We sat. And waited. And waited. And waited. I checked my phone. I had checked in on Unilocal twenty-one minutes before(and it was probably five minutes into the restaurant when I pulled out my phone to check in). No one had bothered to take our order. We couldn’t even flag anyone down – the waitstaff was in their own little world. So, we did what we should have done ten minutes before: Left. Go somewhere else. This place isn’t worth your time.

Found this place from a past co-workers review on social media &I made a mental note to try it one day. Finally I did & I’m happy… my boyfriend never had Senegalese food so it was pretty exciting to see him devour the food… although the food was a bit warm when we got I give them all 5 stars…

I’ve been coming here since they first opened. The takeout(call in yor order first) for me seems to be better than dining in due to lack of customer service, especially if it’s crowded. With a BYOB option, waiting may not be too bad. If you need a nice warm baguette this is the place for it! The portion size is definitely worth the money. And packed with flavor. You have the option to get the cooked/uncooked onion sauce. I usually get the uncooked onion sauce with each dish. But I suggest asking for both to determine which you prefer. If you like spicy foods be sure to ask for the African spice on the side. Favorite dishes: Whole Grilled Tilapia– Whole Fried Snapper –very meaty DB(grilled lamb) — very tender, many pieces of meat Favorite sides: Sweet plantains Couscous Spinach

The food was very tasty and the price was very reasonable the staff was extremely friendly. i will give it 4 stars but the service was a bit slow. I understand it was a bit packed but I was hungry. The spicy sauce with the bread was fantastic. And that ginger drink is definitely a must.

FLIES. EVERYWHERE. GROSS. Meal was a waste of $ 38.50 . Ordered a Croque Monsieur. 1 slice of turkey, rye bread, cheese(of no particular sort) melted on it. If there was béchamel sauce on it, I didn’t taste it. Salad was tossed onto a plate from a plastic container, or tasted that way. Fries saved the plate but I did not order fries. Waitress came once to get order, and once to bring food over. Don’t waste your time. Sad spot in Harlem.:(

The food is nice and the price is very reasonable. We ordered grilled lamb chops and steak. You can’t imagine how big the amount of the food is! I look forward to going there again and try out some other options on the menu!

This was one of 2 stops on a random Harlem night out and was a great pick. I’ve been before for pastries which are yum. This night I had din for the 1st time — shared a dish w/my pal(sharing food is fun) –a nice portion of Salmon, Couscous, Veggies and this Sauce on the side that needs to be bottled and sold. So good! The vibe is a homey, communal feel, nice and comfy. Great prices too. We finished w/Macaroons and vowed to return.

In short, the pastries are amazing! Heard the dinner entrees are wonderful… wish this establishment the best! Another cool find in Harlem:-) Service is kind of embarassing. I think a quick 3-day boot camp in customer service would totally help this place — they’d have lines down the block if they stepped-up their customer service. A smile, welcome/goodbye greeting, and suggestions for other menu items would go a long way. I don’t order more because no one here really puts forth the effort. I’d also encourage the owners to ask customers for suggestions for improvement.

I would give this place 2.5 stars if I could. Came here for dinner and had a lamb sausage sandwich. This consisted of one thin sausage on an ok baguette with a few scattered pieces of lettuce and cooked onion. The flavors weren’t bad, but it felt like something I should have paid $ 5 for, not $ 11. The service was slow, but friendly enough. The most redeeming part of this meal was the pastry at the end! I got the almond chocolate croissant, which was delicious! Felt like it came from another restaurant. Skip the sandwiches maybe, but definitely come here for the pastries!

I met friends at this restaurant at the recommendation of a local. I would not make the same recommendation to anyone I called a friend though. I ordered the lamb shank with couscous. The lamb was overcooked, charred on the outside and dry. The lamb was not cooked in a gravy or sauce. It was served with a condiment of onions in a mustard based sauce. The onions were a little spicy and since they were raw they were very pungent but it was flavorful. The condiment however was not enough to save the overcooked lamb or bland couscous which was my selected side. All three of my friends ordered the whole fish fried and they all enjoyed it much better than I did the lamb. I was wishing I had ordered the same because I left the restaurant hungry and unsatisfied. The service was also lacking. Our server seemed aloof. We had to repeat our orders several times and she still did not get it all right forcing us to ask repeatedly for additional items. The service was extremely slow as well as it seemed she was the only server working at the time. There are too many other options in the area for me to waste my money on the sub par food at this restaurant.

This review is for the café like area, not sure if the restaurant area operates much differently. Been here a couple of times in the past. Maybe since then they have greatly improved… When we have been there there are always items«not available», the menu posted on the wall isn’t that extensive either. It’s eh, just a little annoying so I can’t really deduct too much. tricky. THEBESTPART: The STAFF has been very attentive and for the most part very polite. The CROWD here has always been nice! Once we even got our coffee-drinks paid by a gentleman, and I say gentleman because he did not try to take our number afterwards. Just chatted with us and then paid our drinks and left immediately. Their OUTDOORSEATING area stays open late enough which I think is so nice during pleasant weather.

This place is decent. Pros: Really good food. Love their lamb chops, their croissants(they make some of THE best croissants in NYC, period), and their French toast brunch option. Their sweet plantains are also always very well done, and that’s always a plus in my book. Cons: Slow service. Seriously, the service here is slower than snails crawling through lard. These people serve you like they want you to starve to death before you get a chance to actually eat. It’s insane. I don’t know if it’s that they’re understaffed or just incompetent, but there’s room for serious improvement in this area. I will keep going for the croissants.

Not the best coffee place. They have a good napoleon but the coffee is not great, kind of watery, and the other pastries like the coconut tart has anise which I don’t like at all. To bitter for a pastry/dessert that should be sweet. The bread and croissants look good so next time(if there’s one) I would get those

This is a cute little bakery. We noticed it while walking home from dinner and decided to give it a try to get some dessert. The bakery portion is pretty tiny, but has enough room for people to stand comfortably. There was a restaurant portion too, but we did not check it out. The pastries are in glass displays, and they had a pretty good selection even at 7pm. They are not labeled though, so be prepared to point at what you want or give it a guess. I decided to go with the chocolate croissant(I think). It is a spiral croissant-like creation with a good amount of chocolate. For $ 2.50, it was a really good deal! It is pretty big and definitely enough for two people to share. They do take credit, but have a $ 10 credit card minimum, so make sure you bring cash if you are only planning on getting one or two items.
