I’m straight up paranoid about getting my hair cut. I have curly hair and I get it cut about twice a year, mainly out of necessity. I randomly walked in and sat down with Boris… I explained to him how I wanted my hair cut and he listened to every word I said and executed it exactly how I described. He was patient, detail oriented, and genuinely nice. Not to mention the cost — $ 50something for a great trim and straight blade shave, wash is included in the price of a cut so no additional overhead there. The place looks like a generic hair salon but there’s a lot of talent in there, don’t let it go to waste.

I walked in to Park Avenue Hair Salon pretty randomly – I am a born and raised Murray Hill girl who happens to never have been consistent with where I get my hair cut(primarily for fear of hair cuts) – and WOW. SLAVA is absolute PERFECTION. Not only was she totally pleasant to speak with but she did not try to keep going on and on when her customer wanted to read a magazine or just sit in silence. When we did converse, though, she was SUCH a doll. Now to the haircut: I HAVENEVERHADSUCH A FANTASTIC/GREAT/AMAZING HAIRCUTINMYLIFE. Not only did I walk out of there GLOWING but now, 2 weeks later, I am still gushing about it and cant stop looking at my hair! She is INCREDIBLY talented. I told her what I wanted(layers/angles) but my hair is LONG so i wanted to keep it that way. She listened to every word and delivered with quality and care. I now have a permanent hair spot.

I’ve been going to Slava for the past two years — she’s there early(8:15) so I can still get to work on time — and in addition to being talented, is an absolute doll. Even gives you the talk your favorite aunt would give you, provided you want it ;-) I have really curly hair that I like blown straight — but her haircuts are so good that if I leave my hair to air dry, it still looks perfect — that didn’t even happen when I spent a small fortune at Ouidad. So try her, you won’t be disappointed. She’s only in on Tuesday/Thursday/Friday. Can’t comment on anyone else’s skills, she’s my girl.

Horrible if you have long hair. Went in for a blow out w/no appointment so I was psyched… until the guy starting ripping my hair out. My neck was literally being yanked right & left for about an hour — first time I ever verbally said«OWW» outloud. I was being lazy b/c I work nearby thinking I’d have it blown out instead of doing it myself… big mistake. People are super nice but obviously not qualified for styling long hair.

Totally legitimate hair salon… don’t mind the fact that it’s listed under barbers and has male hairdressers. I’ve been coming here since I moved to NYC and have had only good – actually great– experiences. I see Raphael who is a *perfectionist.* He spends an additional 20 or so minutes just looking at my hair and making sure it’s just right. I get my money’s worth for sure. Also had highlights here before summer which turned out beautifully. The place is clean and modest and very reasonably priced.
