Panino Sportivo Roma is not closed. I’ve been a loyal customer since 2005. The coffee is the best in town. Their sandwiches, salads and pizza are amazing. Made with careful chosen fresh ingredients to delight. Everything on the menu is delicious. I especially love their chicken and sweet onion thin crust pizza. The staff is friendly and their quick, professional service is outstanding. This is my favorite place for lunch and dinner, it’s a gem.

i don’t come here often and then i usually call ahead and pick up my sandwich to go, so can’t comment much on atmosphere. usually I get the one with prosciutto and sliced pears with honey and goat cheese… doesn’t that just sound great? I’ve also had their hot nutella: like hot chocolate but with nutella. it was good but kind of made me think i should try to make it on my own? also, the service has always been decent for me. I once called and got no answer, but then got a call back and was offered 20% off because they missed me earlier. not sure if that’s standard procedure but still really nice of them!

Horrible service, horrible management, too small, not welcoming, cold and grainy coffee, the fridge smells like mouse droppings, and fruit flies hang around the pastries all day

I left NYC5 years ago and still have cravings for this place. My dad used to drive up from DC to pick me up from Columbia instead of putting me on the train/plane just so that he could get one of these sandwiches. They’re THAT good. I think the people with negative comments must have poor ordering capabilities. All of the salmon sandwiches are incredible. The pear & goat cheese salad is to die for. The little cookies are pretty rad, too. Those are honestly the only things I’ve tried, so the ham/cheese sandwich review may be valid. But seriously – who goes to a gourmet panini place and orders a ham & cheese sandwich?! Of course you’re going to overpay for stuff you can make at home. Order something a little more imaginative next time, and Panino will absolutely not disappoint.

$ 8 for a ham and cheese sandwich that is no better than what a mother would pack her 5 year old child while rushing out the door in the morning. I’m still very hungry and very unsatisfied. I was going to give it only one star, but since I only had one thing one the menu I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that the rest of the menu is better Go to a bodega instead.

The service was so unfriendly, and when I asked a few simple questions about the food they had no idea. Had no bottled water left, wasn’t offered anything else– had to say, ok do you have any other drinks? Didn’t ask if it was for here or to go, they just assumed to go so threw the sandwich in a bag. I got the tomato, basil mozzarella panini and it was mehhhh. Tomatoes were bland, dry sandwich. Didn’t wanna ask for anything to go on it for fear of more attitude. Definitely wont return! This is no Rome, that’s for sure.

If Alidoro lays claim to, in my opinion, the best sandwich in New York City, Panino Sportivo up in Morningside Heights must be its little brother. This bar/restaurant is creating some delicious sandwiches with top-notch ingredients. Panino Sportivo isn’t so much a sandwich shop as it is a local hangout. The place has a bar along with a few tables for people to sit and relax at while enjoying a drink and something off the menu. I was there during the Euro 2012 football(soccer) matches and the place was packed to the brim with everyone glued to the flatscreen TV in the corner broadcasting the games. The menu at Panino Sportivo seems to go on and on. I’ve never seen so many different sandwich combinations on a single menu before — all of them with fresh, high quality ingredients. The menu gives you a choice of all different types of sandwiches ranging from vegetarian, to just meat, to meat and cheese, to fish. There are also salads and other larger dishes to choose from such as chicken parmigiana. I ordered: Laura: prosciutto di Parma, sundried tomato paste, pesto The sandwich came out warm and the bread had some grill marks from where it was toasted — a nice touch. The sandwich wasn’t huge like at Alidoro but it was a good size and all of the flavors went together very smoothly. There wasn’t too much pesto so that it overpowered the sandwich, a problem I’ve often found with places that are liberal with their pesto. The sandwich didn’t come with any cheese on it but I wished that it had. It seemed to be missing some nice slices of fresh mozzarella which would have been a perfect complement to the other ingredients. I’ll admit, I engulfed this sandwich in a matter of minutes and wished that it had been a little bigger so I could have enjoyed more of it.

I use to come here to get an iced coffee on my way to work. Staff is superfriendly and they are really fast.

The paninis here are tiny, and the cheapest meat-based one is $ 7, for some salami, special sauce, and this fancy-pants Fontina cheese on some tough, hard-to-chew bread. Maybe they’re basing the portion sizes on European portions, but I usually eat at least two of the paninis to get anywhere near fullness. My favorite is the Trieste salad, with extra corn, extra Portobello mushrooms, and extra cherry tomatoes, which I used to order everyday back when I worked with salad fetishists who ate salads three meals a day, but now looking back on it, $ 8.50 for a dish that I could assemble on my own for way less than that? No thanks. I like the ambiance here, though, and unless the World Cup is playing, the place isn’t too crowded, so it makes a nice study spot or you’re looking for a quiet place for a cup of coffee and a puny panini.

It’s 1pm and they are already out of prosciutto? They need to be more prepared for lunch time! I replaced it for turkey instead(which is cheaper) but they didn’t give me money back. Sandwich was mediocre and simple. Not worth the $ 10. Very comfortable place to study though. And I love that they two outside seating options.

I can only write a review based on their coffee and service, not their actual food. I come here, on an almost daily basis. The lady who is usually there, is pretty quick and I’m out of there in 5 minutes flat. The coffee is decent and a good price, in comparison the Starbucks on campus at TC. In addition, there is almost no line(at max, I’ve had 2 people in front of me, and that was a rare occasion). Get a 10% discount, if you show student ID.

A neighborhood sandwich shop for soccer fans. I give it four stars for the reasonable beer price(two beers for $ 6) and reliably broadcasting important English Premier League and Champions League soccer matches. The atmosphere is great; lots of Arsenal, Man United, and Barcelona supporters who live in the neighborhood watch games here. The sandwiches are tasty(I simply get a P-1), but they’re on the expensive side. I’m not a coffee drinker, but others say their $ 1 drip coffee is a good deal.

My review is based on the food. One visit. Takeout. I ordered the P-42 Arzu panino(goat cheese, ham, pesto). Comparable to the toasty Italian bullets from Quiznos, only less filling and more expensive. Takeout service was prompt. I’ll gladly return for your moderately priced iced coffee. You apparently get a discount if you mention you’re affiliated with Columbia U.

TIME: Lunch on a weekday– I work across the street, so it very convenient. PLACE: Small neighborhood coffee shop/sports bar feel. The place is always filled and always playing a soccer game. They have real china cups for you if you say you’re staying. You can sit here with your friends and watch a soccer/football game. FOOD: Italian style panninis, with a lot of different choices. I come here for lunch maybe once a week, and it is never a disappointment. The sandwiches are pretty filling too. DRINKS: Iced Coffee for $ 1, yes please! Awesome soda selection, full coffee service. TIPS: Come here for a coffee break. They will ice all their coffees in the summer. There’s sugar water for coffee and tea in a green wine bottle.

$ 7 for a tiny panini that was barely grilled? I’ve heard wonderful things about this place so I decided to try it for lunch. All I can say is that I wish I’d gotten pizza instead and saved myself 3 or 4 dollars. The meat was mediocre, the bread was soggy by the time I opened the sandwich, and there was absolutely nothing special about the panini. Both Nussbaum and Wus and Strokos have bigger, better paninis for around the same price. Do yourself a favor and walk a few blocks to those places instead.

I love this place! The food here is VERY good and the quality of ingredients is VERYHIGH. I have tried several different paninis here and have never been disappointed. I’m not a vegetarian by any means, but I love the Andrea panini(pine nuts, arugula, with goat cheese, all encased between two pieces of italian bread with olive oil dressing) Also, the coffee and tea rocks and the service is always very nice and fast. This is a great place to eat and do some work!

I will confess that by the time I arrived at Panino Sportivo Roma I was quite tired from a long day of exploring various bits of the Upper West Side and Morningside Heights. A sign outside claimed that they had the«Best coffee around!» so I thought I’d put that to the test. The interior of Panino is quite small, with a bar off to the right and several tables lined against the wall on the left. I ordered a coffee and while my girlfriend guarded it, I used the rest room. Now, normally I don’t comment on that here, except some dude kept tugging at the door while I was in there, and I just found that incredibly rude. It’s like, if it doesn’t open the first two times, I don’t think the third and fourth are going to do the trick. Anyhow, when I got out we left and began to drink the coffee and… blah. This was SO not the best coffee around. I’ve tasted coffee coming out of Flavia machines at work with more flavor. It was quite disappointing, especially since I was paying almost the same price as a cup of coffee at D&D. All that said, the woman at the bar was nice and the atmosphere of the place seemed very chill and relaxed. Truth be told I wish I could give this place a 2.5 stars just for that, but until something there changes my mind one day I’ll leave it at two.

I’ve been frequenting this place since it opened. Throughout the day they show movies, news, and soccer games on their HD screen – only one, which isn’t a big deal since it’s a small joint. The panini – their main fare – use very fresh, high-quality ingredients and are delicious. My favorites are the P7, P14, P30, and P35, though in the past 6 or so years I still haven’t tried them all. In the evenings they also serve«special» panini, which include their own special tuna sandwich and a Milano cheesesteak. Both are amazing. In addition, they also serve salads – the one with pear, pine nuts, goat cheese, and honey is my favorite – I believe the S3. They’re a little short on breakfast. The main items include various pastries, yogurt, and an egg sandwich with fontina cheese and caramelized onions. The latter(the B3) has the potential to be quite good, if and when they get the onions right. Most of the time they don’t – they just taste like ordinary fried red onions. The drip coffee and espresso are pretty good. Avoid the cappuccino and lattes if you’re a connoisseur because they’re pretty bad. That’s not so much a fault of Panino’s as it is of the general american ignorance of what good Italian coffee should taste like or how to make it. But I digress… Great place. Highly recommend it.

Tons of options for Italian sandwiches and paninis. My favorites are the mortadella & brie tramenzini and the proscuitto, pear, goat cheese, & honey panini– yum! A little bit on the expensive side– a panini runs around $ 10. The tramenzini(a toast sandwich) is a slightly better deal– around $ 6. Great drink options, too. I love the nutella drink(although I’m very easy to please when it comes to nutella!), and that you can get a coffee for a dollar(a dollar!). The place is small and cozy, and has a very comfortable vibe. My only complaint is that they have a credit card minimum($ 10, I think) that they stick to rigidly– I think my order was $ 9.50 and the woman made me get something else.
