I’m a huge foodie and a 1st generation NYC Turk. I’m most critical about my Turkish food for obvious reasons and this spot was highly disappointing. They serve the doner in a traditional manner but the food was bland and everything from the shepherd salad to the main course was not too good.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go here, and especially NOT to order the«Otto Tombik Chicken Burger» unless you really are in the mood to be disappointed. Totally not worth the $ 8.66 I paid– that $ 5 gyro from the cart would have been much better quite honestly. I gave this place a try few times for lunch already, and it was usually decent. However, this time that I tried for take-out at dinner was a BIG mistake. The funny thing is I ordered exactly the same thing I ordered from here last week for lunch, and it was absolutely horrible. I mean everything about it was wrong– it tasted so bland, the guy making the sandwich used a completely different crumbly, sweet bun never used before in the four times I’ve ordered(it was NOT the Tombik Turkish bread the description calls for), the chicken seemed like it was from leftovers and just slightly lukewarm. He didn’t even ask if I wanted any sauce and just threw on the chicken with the mixed lettuce into the bun and handed it to me! To top it off, the description says it’s a «Chicken doner served in Tombik pide bread with french fries & greens», and the picture is pretty much what you get– apparently the fries are for dine in only(which it doesn’t say even in fine print on the take-out menus). And also a side note, if you’re going to have new staff behind the counter, at least teach them to properly make what is being ordered or be honest about it. Their quality is just not up to par from when they first started, and they haven’t even been open for more than a few months. Never again.

I’d been craving doner since coming back from Berlin(weird, I know). Stumbled onto Otto while walking down 5th ave and added it to the bookmarks list. A few months later, finally found an excuse to stop in(as if doner wasn’t already a good enough reason). I got the doner wrap with both white and red sauce. For some reason, they gave me the sauces on the side, which is fine. Took it to go, anyway. Not the greatest doner, but the portions were good, and the price was right. Tons of veggies in the wrap as well. The white sauce was better than the red, and the red wasn’t that spicy but had some tang to it. They take credit cards, but not American Express.

Delicious Doner. When they ask if you want the white or red sauce, tell them both. They are both delicious. The red offers a well-behaved zing — just right for the person who doesn’t want their mouth on fire. But the very best part of the meal was the rice pudding. I know. I know. It sounds like *just* rice pudding, but Turks brûlée the top, creating an amazing flavor dimension. But even real Turks can mess up rice pudding. It can be too thick and gluey. The rice can become unpleasantly hard or mushy. This house-made sütlaç is the most amazing one I’ve had since my last trip to Turkey. Perfect creaminess, perfect sweetness, tender rice — total comfort food. And no offense to those who do their rice pudding differently, but this is just beautiful milkiness — no distracting rose, cardamom, cinnamon or other flavors. Ok that’s enough of my Ode to Otto’s Sütlaç.

First of all, for the first 5 minutes I waited, the cooks did absolutely nothing. Despite the line of people waiting for their food. I got a simple donor wrap — 3 customers ahead of me(maybe some delivery, too) and it took 20 minutes of standing around before my dry, small expensive wrap was given to me. After it had been made, it spent 5 – 10 minutes just sitting behind the counter. It was like the staff were in a day dream.

IDENTITYCRISIS with good food, there may be hope for this new 5th Ave Turkish spot. Clearly management needs to decide what type of restaurant experience they are offering; take out or table service? Owners spent a fair amount of $ on ducting their hood vent from front-of-house to the back, so you would think yes, this is perfect for a quick 30 minute wrap during lunch. But no, immediately you are approached by the wait staff and coerced to be seated for table service. HEYOWNER, no one wants to be waited on at a glorified shawarma shop midweek during lunch time, we want to order our delisciously greasy chicken doner wrap from the guy tending the spit, sit down with a can of soda then bolt outa there to finish off our day. Keep the upstairs and garden open for Empire State tourist table service at lunch and dinner. ALSO grape leaves appetizer price point more expensive than a meat wrap, and the portion is 4 small pieces? Good food, but feels like amateur hour.

Food: 1⁄10 Service: 1⁄10 Ambiance: N/A(pick up) Value: 1⁄10 I rue the fact that I didn’t read the reviews before eating the food. I live a block away and decided to give it a shot. I called to place a pick up, and asked the receptionist/hostess what the difference between the Otto Donor entrée and the Urfa entrée was, she informed me they didnt have Urfa. At first I thought this was strange since I was just reading the menu online, but dismissed it since I know restaurants change menu’s all the time(despite this place opening up in the beginning of the summer). After, I gave her my name to pick up, I had to call them back because she just straight up hung up on me without letting me know how long I should wait to pick it up. Upon arrival, I noticed they had a massive chalkboard that displayed the menu(which insinuates that if changes to the menu can be made daily) it showed that they do indeed have Urfa. When I asked about the Urfa, she responded, «We don’t have Urfa here…», to which I then pointed it out to her on the menu that is 5 feet away from her; her response were along the lines of «Oh well». On to the main point of this review. For $ 17(including tax) you received nothing extraordinary, despite your initial conception. Contents included: a small salad, 8 french fries that have been sitting out for hours, decent rice and extra tasteless, yet dry gyro meat that who knows what bland meat came from. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed. Bottom line is, this was an awful experience, how dare they charge +$ 15 for this entrée… I mean, I understand the 5th ave location, but you gotta offer a good product, not sub-par. If you read this review, and still eat there, please let me know so I can walk over, smack you upside the head which will hopefully knock some sense into you.

Takeout for lunch; wanted to see what was so special about this place. Nothing. The workers making the food are rude and one of the waitress looked extremely confused. So if you want good food, you shouldn’t go to an establishment with a microwave. The microwave was clearly visible, and I saw one of the worker pick up a dropped fries, clean it, and put it back on the plates. I got the doner wrap and it was meh. For $ 8, it wasn’t worth it. Saw them making the food and for the price they’re charging they literally skimp out on the portions. There was barely any meat, and the ones I did get to try the pieces were dry. Verdict: it might be open 24 hours, but never ever coming here

Not very tasty and lack of process in service, employees inside are nice though. If this place doesn’t do something, they might end up with closing which will be bad. This neighbor needs a good Turkish cuisine. Why is it so hard to serve delicious Turkish food? Here is my advice to the manager take your chefs to Taci’s Beyti Brooklyn everyday until they mimic the same taste. That’s all you need to do. I hope this feedback helps.

Super authentic Turkish food made the traditional way. They make all their pita and wraps in house on big stones and they are different than other pita– crispy on the outside, fluffy inside. Their kebab meat is also really delicious, tender and flavorful. My favorite dish is the mezze combo platter because it gives you a taste of everything — hommos, tabbouleh, yogurt, dolmas, and babaganoush. Upstairs wine bar is cute and authentic too. Will be back!

Conveniently located by the Empire State building. We were walking on 5th Ave after dinner and stopped by this place because it looked really cool. We had dessert and Turkish coffee here. The people were very friendly. Dessert; Rice pudding and Knafeh were great. Service and staff: 5⁄5. Very friendly. Atmosphere: 5⁄5. Try to have a seat upstairs in the back yard, it’s very cozy and beautiful.

I decided to check out the restaurant for lunch and what a mistake it was! Decided to go with the lamb doner wrap to take out. Placed my order and went to pay as I was paying, one of the guy from the food station tells me that there is a bread that will taste better with the lamb and I shouldn’t take the wrap but the sandwich which is a $ 1 extra but he will give it to me for the price of the wrap. I thought the guy was being nice so said okay and the sandwich was miraculously ready with in seconds. felt weird but didn’t think much of it. When I came back to my office and started opening the sandwich I noticed it was kinda stale and the juice from the meat soaked the bread and then dried up a little. ate it anyway because I was starving. The sandwich was not tasty at all! And had to pay the price for the next 2 days as I got sick. Needless to say I will never go there…

First of all, I am 1st generation Turkish, and I was quite surprised to find out that this restaurant stuck with the traditional ways of preparing our famous dish«Döner». The taste of the döner is really amazing, the atmosphere is very comfortable, the staff is friendly and the outside seating is definitely a plus in the warm days. I am yet to try out the rest of the dishes here in their extensive menu, I will write more as I do. Very happy to have found this place as it brings a taste of home.

— Never been to Turkey, built I feel it’s authentic as it gets in NY — This is far superior than the halal guy at the corner — The service was good, the staff explained each dish thoroughly — The upstairs/outdoor area is very spacious and a nice place for a group gathering — The turnip juice was trash
