Went there Thursday night after work for a drink and a small bite with my boyfriend. The place is nice and dimly lit, which makes it intimate. They have a happy hour 7pm-10pm on Thursday and Friday. Monday-Wednesday the happy hour is earlier I believe. It’s 10 $ wine and 10 $ food(small bites). We had a couple of glasses of wine and white truffle pizza(my BF has sliders). They make their pizza there and it was really good. I don’t usually eat pizza often(it’s carbs people!!!), but I almost ate the whole thing. The pie is not big and good for share between two people. Sam, a manager, was very attentive. He came up to our table multiple times to check how we were doing. Waiters were constantly refilling our water glasses and asking us if we needed anything else. Overall, great experience! Will definitely go back!

I like the décor, and the place doesn’t get as loud as those horrible midtown bars. The food is very mediocre, so I just go for drinks. However, the staff is nasty. Eastern Europeans can be cool and classy, but they have hired the worst rejects.

Absolutely awful restaurant and pathetic service. I am usually a very generous tipper, but I tipped $ 0.00 here, because the service was so bad — absolutely pathetic service and the restaurant was half empty with many staff just standing around.

I am stunned to read so many negative reviews on here! Our meal was EXCELLENT! The service was impeccable and the place is gorgeous! I only wished we lived closer… We shared the salmon tartare and the beet salad with goat cheese and honey pecans to start and it was fabulous! The portions are very generous — the salmon tartare was the freshest and succulent! Our main entrees consisted of sole amandine in brown butter and the steak special of the evening with roasted potatoes and blanched veggies! Again, their portions were huge! We only ate half and kept the rest for an amazing left over lunch the following day… I adored my fish! Was it the butter? Was it the quality? Maybe a bit of both, I really wish this place was closer to me haha! Our desserts were the profiteroles and the molten chocolate cake! You guessed it… Both were fantastic, rich of ice cream and chocolate, I almost licked the plates –oops! On Saturday, they have a live jazz band! Woot woot! I highly recommend Opia for a date night, the place is pretty and impressive of modernity and elegance and the food totally fitting!

I are here with my wife after a few people I know recommended we dine here. Tucked inside the Renaissance Hotel you can expect the ambience to be beautiful and it was. We tried the salmon tartare and the beet salad both of them were absolutely delicious especially the salmon tartare that was just so good We wanted to order an extra one afterwards we tried the fish and steak and both of them were outstanding My wife is French and thought that the sole was made in a very traditional French way, lots of butter lol. But both very delicious we ended with chocolate molten cake which was also great but then again how can that not be delicious.

This review is a follow up to my not so great prior experience. Frederick, one of the business manager reached out and apologized for the unfortunate experience we had. He invited me and my 2 friends for a complimentary dinner and it was terrific Service was prompt and courteous. Our Meals were well cooked and tasty. You have to try the bread pudding dessert! It’s to die for. Definitely going back and highly recommend! !!

I still tipped the staff 20% out of courtesy, but the manager should be fired. He doesn’t know how to manage. We came during the blizzard, they were fairly staffed given the amount of guests dining(3 waiters +1 bartender managing the restaurant of say, 11 – 12 tables MAX). We had to force these guys time, and time again, to place our order, I went to go grab drinks from the bar myself, forced to get utensils, the bill, etc. But then again, one can not complain in finding a warm meal during the blizzard.

I could not believe how dishonest the restaurant was on Saturday night when they flat out lied to us in refusing our Groupon deal. I should have heeded the previous reviews that gave this place such a terrible average rating for their service, but wanted to take a chance anyway because they appeared to have a great menu at a great location. The Groupon deal was just 25% off the food and drinks, for a cost $ 10, not a big saver, super deal or anything like that. When we arrived, I showed them the Groupon and said I had made the reservation through Groupon(as per the deal). The hostess flat out said that they do not have our reservation in their system. Sure, no problem, computer glitches do happen. I then explained that I have the Groupon, I have the reservation confirmation email, and she then asked to see them. I fumbled around with my email and the Groupon app until I was able to show her both those pieces of evidence. Instead of honoring my measly Groupon deal, she decided to speak with her manager. She disappeared for about 5 minutes and came back to explain that the restaurant no longer honors the Groupon, and that the deal must be expired. Why would she asked to see evidence if the restaurant had no intentions of honoring the deal to begin with? I showed her again the deal terms(not expired), and she apologized and said that they do not honor it. She did not even offer to honor the face value of the Groupon deal(the $ 10 I had paid), and boldly asked me if we wanted to eat there anyway(the establishment was half empty on a Saturday night). Trust me, I’m a civil and polite guy. My wife and I politely declined her invitation to dine at the restaurant, and we left quietly without continuing with any scene beyond the 10 minutes we stood by the bar trying to explain Groupon to them. We then quickly booked a spot at another establishment, a beautiful Fusion Vietnamese place down the block that served pretty ok food, pricy, and not so great desserts. We had a comfortable time there because of the service and décor, and we didn’t think much more about Opia’s dishonesty until I got home ready to explain this situation to Groupon and also to warn others via Unilocal

The Tuna Tare Tare is a MUST! Probably the only reason I come into Manhattan for, sometimes. It is simply the BEST I’ve ever had and I’ve had many. But I’m done trying the rest of the other places.

Stopped by on Saturday night after museum. I had an apperol spritz and my friend ordered a glass of Chardoney which were both crisp and delicious. Tuna tartar was one of the reasons why we picked Opia among other great restaurants in the neighborhood. I’ve been many times at Opia years ago and always loved their tuna tartar(and entire please in general). I wasn’t disappointed this time. I think they have even improved. Live jazz is such a great idea. It sets perfect atmosphere in dining room. Lucky us, we happened to be at Opia at right time. They have happy hour on Saturdays 10pm-1am(they also have it during the week, check official website for more info). Overall it was great to be back at Opia few years later and some changes made this place even more pleasant and memorable. I was so thrilled with this experience that made a dinner reservation for my upcoming birthday, which is November 7th. Will definitely share my experience after my special dinner. Having high expectations;) but at the same time I’m very confident at Opia’s team and their professionalism. Thank you.

Great early and late night Happy Hour which I was able to hit both while staying at the hotel which I love. Tuna Tartar was great and the Sushi was good for a French restaurant. Eggs Benedict was tasty the next morning after a long nite.

Horrible food, service, over priced. We went here for brunch. There was exactly 1 other table, it was empty. Our order was totally wrong; i asked for greens, no hollandaise, my friend got the greens, no hollandaise. But i got her hollandaise and potatoes. Sent it back but the waitress didn’t realize until we we told her, the food was wrong after she set it in front of us. Check your order before sitting it in front of us — two tables in the whole place! It was dead. Then the food, was not good. Mixed greens, iceburg lettuce that’s it! Dessert, muffins, were cold literally out of a grocery store container–(we could see the side ridges were they were mini muffins popped out of a plastic container) again we had to ask the waitress for butter and jam. She says? Oh they’re cold oh you want butter? Who brings muffins w/out butter and jam? Extremely overpriced. The manager came over after we requested her and apologized. I can’t imagine when its busy what it would be like. The terrace for a overpriced drink is about all it’s good for!

We stopped by the bar(since we were staying the hotel) for a quick drink and a bite to eat. Indifferent service, poorly mixed drinks(my Negroni tasted overwhelmingly of sweet vermouth), and slow-to-arrive food did not make for a great experience. It’s possible that if we’d availed ourselves of a full meal, we’d have had a different experience?

Went here for a Sunday brunch. Ordered the salmon eggs benedict. Very disappointed in the quality of the food, the eggs were hard boiled, the bread was soggy and the smoked salmon was cooked. When I commented on the fact that the eggs were hard boiled(and not poached as advertised) the waitress just said«yes I know. Do you not want to eat it?». Seems like she already knew how terrible the cooks were, and that she had given up. Coffee was also pretty awful. Would not go here again.

We stayed in the Renaissance hotel last week and had breakfast twice at Opia restaurant. We were are there for my niece’s wedding, so all of us were in a great mood and happy to be together with family members. Good thing we were in such a good mood. I don’t recommend going there if you are in a hurry, a little bit hangover, or in some sort of dispute with your spouse. The head-waitress will drive you CRAZY! OK, so we are having a good time, chatting with family members. A friendly server takes our order. Everything is fine so far. Then the head waitress comes in and asks to take our order. Again. We tell her«We already ordered.» She gives us this surprised and offended look«You Ordered?» and quickly rushes toward the kitchen, visibly upset. We have no idea, what the drama is about, but we get a feeling that somebody would get fired. We cross our fingers that its not the nice and competent server who took our order. Well, a few minutes later who comes in? The head waitress. She brings our dishes and totally screws up our orders. I am served pancakes with strawberries, while I positively ordered a french toast with apples. I say politely, «I am sorry, but I ordered French toast», and she says: «This is French toast!» I say«It looks like pancakes, «, but she has already left. I taste it, and guess what it tastes just like pancakes! Wow, I never had a waitress lie right in my face, like that. The first waitress comes by and I ask her«Is this French toast or pancakes?», and she says, «It’s pancakes.» She takes it way apologized for the heard waitresses’ mistake and brings me the French toast. In the mean time the head waitress comes back and takes my maple syrup away and brings me regular milk instead of soy milk. I am lactose intolerant, so I am thinking :“What is this woman’s problem?» Every time she passes by our table I expect something bad to happen. Next time she’d drop a knife on my head or she’d poor hot coffee on my lap. A few more screw-ups follow, thankfully quickly corrected by the other servers — the people she is opposed to manage. God help these poor souls. At the end the bill comes in and it is in the triple digits. Seriously, the restaurant would be much better without this woman micromanaging everything and screwing everything up. Overall the food was decent, but expensive. I believe if you are going to charge 100’s of dollars for breakfast, you should really work on customer satisfaction. Next time I am in Manhattan, I’d stay away from this place.

The Place is gorgeous and romantic, A+ for ambiance, B for the service and C for the food which didnt leave me too impressed. The drinks are good, but expect mediocre food. Me and a few friend had ordered the baratta, crispy artichokes, truffle pizza, mac n cheese, truffle fries, the salmon and the nicose salad. The service is semi-slow the sever kept forgetting to bring us what he asked of him. Sadly I don’t believe I’ll be back again unless its for drinks. The place has a lot of potential though. Check it out and see for yourself

My friend took me here for a meetup. Such a quiet & intimate place. From the manager to the servers to the bartenders they all were interactive & knowledgeable, not to mention friendly. The bartender Michael was rocking & rolling behind the bar walking drinks out to customers & making drinks that were, A-M-Azing to say the least. We ordered escargot, calamari, & a cheese plate. Everything was so tasty! Highly recommended for tourists & locals alike!

I attended a business lunch at Opia. The setting and ambiance are fine. We sat near a window, and in the middle of our conversation, the waiters began a laborious process of opening up a nearby patio and moving an unwieldy sofa onto it, then moving a grand piano in front of the windows. Did that need to happen at that very moment. My companions got fish and steak dishes, which looked pretty good. I got the Vietnamese salad. I was surprised how brown the salad was, Napa cabbage isn’t supposed to be that color, right? But the bigger problem was the dressing, which had plenty of oil but no discernible acid at all. No ground pepper offered for the salad, and I found myself adding salt to try to balance out the oily taste. I was hungry, so I finished it all, but not a good dish or value at $ 24.

If you see a hotel restaurant, do you keep on walking? For this one, YES! My new husband and I got married at a nearby wedding venue, and booked a block of rooms for ourselves and wedding party here so this was the most convenient. After agreeing to host our wedding party brunch here, we had restaurant week lunch here and boy did we regret our decisions. We both got corn soup — bland, that had a spoon of(store bought) guac inside which was the only(onion) flavor component). Main dish of lamb was tough and chewy and served with frozen vegatables. Flan was not quite dessert at all. Our wedding party brunch was hosted in a nicely decorated back room but the tables were not arranged together. Everyone sat in groups of 4 to 6 so nobody was really able to mingle. Coffee and tea were self-serve at a side table and the waiter would NOT get it for anyone. Onion tartlet was good, endive salad was ok. Salmon benedict looked good. Everyone who ordered steak and eggs had both overdone. French toast was average. Crème brûlée was served as two small dishes, couldn’t find bigger ramekins? Napoleon was mislabeled on menu as flan so guests didn’t get what they thought they would. Thanks for the space, but the food was sub-par.
