NYU Internal Medicine Associates – The Miller Practice

The quality of care seems good once you get in to see a doctor, but the waits can be very long, and the bureaucracy is insane. I’ve spent a week trying to reach someone to get information about medical records. I have gone in crazy-​making circles to even get an answer about who to speak to. I still haven’t reached anyone who can help me.

My doctor is Dr. Valentine, who is (as another reviewer has said) wonderfully caring and interested and helpful. For him, this review would have five stars.
But the practice itself is horrible. If it weren’t for Dr. Valentine, I wouldn’t go there. As others have said, the building is perpetually under construction (over 18 months as of this writing). The elevators are scary. The people at the reception desk are unfriendly and unhelpful.
But the worst part is the phones. They don’t answer their phones. The phone tree is poorly organized and unhelpful. The office staff are poorly trained and when you do get through they are not helpful or informative. So poorly trained are they that when they have to make a referral for insurance, they ask the patient to find out the doctor’s insurance ID number and fax number. In previous practices that I have been to, the office staff had this information at hand. Getting test results can take for ever if you telephone for them.
This office does belong to the NYU-​Langone system, however, and so you can make appointments and get test results online. There is a smart phone app for that. But for older people or people who simply can’t or don’t want to use online access, getting through to this practice and getting service and help is a nightmare. If it weren’t for Dr. Valentine, I would never go near this practice. I hope he leaves it soon so that I can follow him to wherever he goes.

The entire office is under construction. Taking that elevator that feels like it’s going to freefall to the floor is petrifying on its own. The receptionists at the counter were extremely unfriendly. I wasn’t greeted by anyone. I had to guess which receptionist I should go up to. I stood there like an idiot for a minute until I finally introduced myself.
The wait wasn’t too bad. I really like that everything is done online. I can access all of my results online, which is nice compared to other offices.
I saw Dr. Lef, who I won’t be seeing again. She was short and rude and had no bedside manner. I recently moved to Brooklyn and work in Manhattan, so I was on the hunt for a good primary care physician and used ZocDoc to find her. She was short, rude, and had no beside manner. She seemed to only care about why I hadn’t had the HPV vaccine (something that my OB-​GYN had not recommended to me) and when I told her I wasn’t interested in getting it, she made me feel horrible, and didn’t even appropriately explain to me why I should get it. She just made me feel stupid and treated me like I was less of a person after she found that out. I had an ailment in my toe that she had never heard of (she’s supposed to be on the Board of Internal Medicine and doesn’t know about benign tumors in your toe — even my gastroenterologist knew what it was and he specializes in the digestive system).
Checking out was just as miserable. The receptionist was rude. I was standing there and didn’t know I didn’t have a co-​pay (I have very little understanding of my insurance policy) and seemed like he was bothered that I had wasted his time standing there when I didn’t have to pay anything for my visit.
I won’t be back.

I must say calling miller practice feels like calling dell support in India. No one in the office picks up the phone ever, they never return your call. I struggled to find a good allergist and when I found one he moved his practice to millers. And the nightmare started. They billed me incorrectly and sent to collection within like weeks, in the mean time I called their office several times to speak with someone but not able to the call center folks told me that someone will call but No One did. You might ad well be dead and still not be able to speak to the doctor. The administrators are very rude. The worst medical practice I have ever come across is the city and I am seeing doctors in the manhattan for the lady 20 yrs. think before you go to this practice!’!!

The Miller Practice misses the mark in a few places – mainly administrative. It’s almost impossible to speak to someone from this actual office, let alone your doctor. Their phone calls are routed to a call center located someplace other than their West 52^nd St location. They rarely return phone calls, so if you need something like a prescription refill, you’re going to have to come into the physical office to speak with someone.

I just visited Dr. Ramachandran, one of the Dermatologists there and she was SO great. She was beyond friendly, so patient, and took her time. She even made some comments on things I wasnt even there for, which I appreciated, because it made me feel like she was really looking over things thoroughly. She suggested a treatment plan, but was open to getting my feelings on it too — which I also appreciated! I did not feel rushed at all, and she was very accommodating.
And as an extra bonus the receptionist was so so nice and had a big ol’ smile on her face, as did the nurse I saw before the doctor. What a great team!

I’ve seen two docs at this office, and they were both great. I needed a generalist, and saw Dr. Jones. She was great, and was so patient. She referred me to Dr. Balzora for some stomach issues I was having, and she too was great. I definitely highly recommend both of them! As a young woman, I’ve found it tough to find female docs in the area.
One negative about the place is getting in touch with a live person over the phone. This has been an issue, which is annoying. At least now they have this way of contacting the docs through email, which is awesome. No one has time to sit on hold these days!

After seeing me continuously for weeks. and Dr. Adigun not being very concerned about my worsening condition. I went to the ER and was admitted for 4 days. They were shocked at my infection. I was given IVs of antibiotics (vancomycin), benadryl drip and steroids.
I learned a very important lesson — when in doubt, get a second opinion.
She was a nice person and I was very accommodating with my schedule — but I obviously was not getting the care I needed.

I had an extremely positive experience with Dr. Anna Lef today at the Miller Practice Medical Center. This was my first time seeing Dr. Lef and it was a great visit. Sh asked me many background questions and spent time listening to my concerns and what do to going forward. The whole visit was effortless and I was very happy with my choice in a new GP

Tried for three weeks to get an appointment with my regular doctor, dr Mierlak — left six separate messages on their appointment machine after failing to talk to a real person.
Finally called and pressed 1 as if I were a physician and got in touch with a real person, wow. They said their phones had been broken for the past few weeks and nobody received any of my messages. Oh well. They seriously didn’t care (or pretend to). Finally was given an appointment for a week later.
Showed up to my appointment today after calling and trying to tell someone I was running L-​train-​style 10 minutes late — to no avail — only for the extremely rude receptionist (who should not be working in public service, at all) to tell me that well, my doctor is there, but he has to leave in an hour and he can’t see me due to my lateness. What is this, Per Se? First of all this is a quick checkup appointment, secondly if he needed to cancel he should have called me, thirdly what kind of doctor sits in his office and doesn’t come out to speak to his patient of three years?
I will not be using them again. Absolutely no regard for patient care and rude front of house. Also the waiting room always smells of sick people as if they never clean the place. Used to highly recommend these guys. Never again.

The Miller Practice came highly recommended from a friend who’d been seeing them for years. The first time I needed to get in it was fairly easy. When the doctor I’d originally seen was unavailable (Dr.Adler) I saw Dr. Valentine and liked him even more. He was non-​alarmist and realistic. He listened, he looked at the big picture, not just the symptoms I was experiencing.
I also see their OB/​GYN here — Dr. Mierlak. Seriously, the best I’ve been too. He’s a friendly, personable older man and I’ve never been more comfortable with a «lady doctor» before. He’s professional and like Dr. Valentine was non-​alarmist even with abnormal test results. He explained everything — twice, and then a third time when I asked; he was optimistic but thorough *just in case* and contacted me immediately, despite it being a Friday afternoon/​evening because he knew I was worried. I got to enjoy my weekend with good news! He is also easily reachable by email and will give general results in a quick «all clear!» or «come see me» email.
I see a separate allergist but I have no doubt the other specialists in the office are just as good.
My only complaint is like another person said — getting a hold of one of the GP/​PCP docs, is difficult. The front desk staff are not the most organized and have actually interrupted my time with the doctor before. I didn’t understand why it was ok for staff to interrupt my time but I couldn’t get a call back during reasonable business hours for a script that he messed up that I then had to call my allergist and beg to call in for me.

The Miller Practice was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a doctor’s office. Having recently moved here from out of town, I was a little nervous to use a new doctor. Several of the doctors came highly recommended, and I was very pleased. They have a very friendly staff as well who were responsive to my questions and seemed very professional. It’s hard to find this good of service around the city. I will definitely continue to see the doctors here at this practice.

I tried to stick it out but just can’t do it. It’s impossible to actually get in touch with the doctor. All you can do is leave a message and hope that he calls back and if he by some miracle does call back (usually after leaving several messages with his dysfunctional staff) then it’s usually around 7:40 p.m. on a Friday night when you’re out meeting a friend and can’t pick up the call. I am still waiting to get test results over a week after the test was completed (over three weeks since the test was prescribed because his staff did not actually schedule the test until I called them three times). I have left three messages already and have given up at this point. If I have some horrible illness then I’ll never know.
Basically the staff is dysfunctional and the doctor is impossible to get in touch with. If you have another option for a doctor I would say TAKE IT. Unless you’re a person of leisure without a job who can afford to call once a day for two weeks and patiently wait for the doctor to get around to calling you… maybe.

This might be the best doctor’s office in the city. I come here for my PCP (Dr. Pacifico), dermatologist (Dr. Adigun), and a few other doctors, and I’ve been consistently impressed by their knowledge, patience, and organization in this office.
The front desk staff is generally very friendly & helpful. I needed an emergency appointment this week for a throat infection, and they had me in the office within a few hours. In terms of regular appointments, every doctor I’ve seen has been very friendly, patient with any questions, and explains their thoughts/​suggestions in great detail.
I highly recommend visiting doctors in this office!
