Unless its a 2nd branch, it appears they recently took over the space of the former Japanese ramen restaurant at 137 E 45th St, Menchanko Tei. I’m always excited to try a new Asian neighborhood restaurant(hence my preliminary 5 star rating to halo the old reviews from the old location), even though I am genuinely skeptical of the authenticity of asian fusion. Actually when you look at the menu, it also has a chinese section and they make bubble tea, so its triple fusion. Was even surprised to see Tiramisu dessert on the menu. Now they’re making me wonder? Well stay tuned for a more accurate rating based on actual experience.

I think this place may be delinquent on their lease or in the process of going out of business, because with the order that I just received, they can’t possibly be serious about being in operation much longer. The 15 dollar special roll was tiny and had almost nothing in it — it was the size of 5 dollar gas station rolls. The sashimi just did not look fresh. The ginger salad was old and had surely been sitting for a while. The sodas were sort of cold but not quite. And the meal was very overpriced. However, they do get some credit for delivering at midnight on a Monday. Phone order was accepted with a bored, indifferent, and mildly annoyed tone. I did not finish the sushi as it presents a health risk based on its appearance and taste. I also highly suspect they were taken off seamless as their closing time on google says 1:45 am but they don’t show up on seamless. Stay away

Update: I came on to confirm that I am experiencing some moderate food poisoning including: diarrhea, muscle weakness, and nausea. I don’t normally write Unilocal!reviews, but I don’t want anyone to go through this same situation. Please be very cautious if you are eating here. Utterly underwhelming on so many different levels that giving a one-star review is thoroughly generous on our end. I will abridge the review of this abhorrent restaurant, for one because I’m tired, and two, in hopes that more people read this review and avoid a potential stomach infection. Delivery: 1.5 hours late, not much else to be said. Quality: I highly recommend ordering the sushi from here; it’s warm, without flavor, and quite the unpleasant surprise– just as your local gas station sells it! *sarcasm Customer Service: There’s much left to be desired, unless of course, you enjoy being hung up on and rushed by the driver after waiting hours for your meal. Price: It’s definitely worth a refund. I’d actually need to be paid to return here again. Oddities: The menu in the bag didn’t match the location that we purchased the food from. Notes: On the bright side, you can only look up from here.

Do not feel like getting into it too much but would give a 0 star if possible. I was looking around and thought I should order from this place because it looked decent. Once I ordered my food, it came 1 hour and 26 minutes later. On top of that, I got the completely wrong order. Very bad service.

After a lovely afternoon at the MoMA, my friends and I(7 people total) found ourselves seeking a fairly-priced resturaunt where we could enjoy our food pretty much anywhere aside from the sidewalk. Two of them went across the street after spotting this place. We eventually joined them after being told a snack would be $ 6 by a street vendor. Upon entering, we realized we had 30 minutes total before we had to catch our bus. They brought us our food and bubble tea fairly quickly. The waitress and sushi chef were accommodating, providing us with to-go containers as a precaution in case we had to leave with little notice. Our bill was $ 95+, but I would say we ate very well considering the other options we had in the museum and directly outside. The avocado roll was nicely made. However, the coconut bubble tea was definitely sub-par. The tapioca pearls were undercooked. Regardless, I really appreciated the service. Cute place. Not crowded at all. UPDATE: Just woke up, started off my day with a trip to the toilet to violently throw up! Food poisoning, folks.

A place midtown for cheap and quick lunch. You can get their lunch special for 16 $ including taxes and tips(sushi box, sashimi box, teriaky box…). But beware, nothing fancy to be expected, you will just be back to your desk in 30 minutes :-)

Came here on a rainy Friday afternoon after I got a whiff of my co-worker’s lunch. She said she got it here so I immediately«trekked» through my office on 51st St., went through the crowded MoMA, with the intention of taking it back to my office. The place was empty so I decided to dine there instead. The only one who could lead me to an empty table(among the sea of empty tables) was the sushi dude so I had to wait a few minutes(oy vey!) to get seated. But as soon as I was seated, service was smooth from then on. I ended up ordering the pad thai with shrimp lunch special, starting off with the miso soup. It could just be that I was very hungry but the pad thai was very good and went into my belly within minutes. The miso soup was OK too. Overall a very casual, noneventful experience. I’d come back again. But probably around the same time which was 2 – 2:30ish pm.

This is a forgettable place. It seems like the food is prepared by amateurs and it doesn’t look very appetizing. My last visit there was when my friend found a hair in her food.

We knew going in that it wouldn’t be amazing, but we were too hungry and tired to look farther. I suspect this is how they do most of their business. Very unspectacular. Mesclun salad was large, and fine. Ordered one of the sushi rolls with eel, tasted pretty standard. Pervasive musty basement smell, which was very unappetizing. Horrible décor. The«graffiti» decoration makes the place just look dirty.

I don’t remember that we came here before, but that’s easy to believe. With a bit of care and thought this place could be spiffed up and be nicer but as it is with the bad paint/shower curtain private room, worker info posters in the dining room, seasonal menu paper 6 months out of date etc it looks shabby with out any chic. Across from the MoMA so maybe they don’t have to try — there is pretty steady buisness even with only a B grade. Mediocre standard rolls and food — kinda like airport food — 50% off makes prices ok(think of it like 2 for 1 rolls) but know that they add 18% tip right off the bat(and service is serviceable…

It’s rare I’ve had a meal where every single part was wrong, gross, and mishandled. That’s what happened here. First, the food is quite tasteless. The only thing that tasted right was the edamame — which is pretty hard to mess up. My soup and main dish had no good flavors in it and basically felt like eating trash. I had miso soup and vegetable tempura. Tempura is supposed to taste clean, and this was like bar food. My uncle’s received the wrong dish at first and, with little apology, we had to wait for his dish to come out after mine. They serve luke warm tap water, not iced nor cold, and the glasses were of questionable cleanliness. Also, I’m not sure if it was a lunch thing, but the two waitstaff seemed like it was their first time waiting tables. They messed up a lot, ignored people, kept accidentally stepping over each other, and were just not outgoing nor helpful. It may be close to MOMA but stay away. Eating in Midtown is always a mistake — just don’t do it.

The atmosphere of this place was a bit dungeon-y… Really lame décor and poor lighting which was surprising considering the location. However, good service and even better tasting food. I got the Miss Saigon Curry. The food was probably their saving grace as it was better than some of the nicer looking Thai places I’ve been to. I didn’t have any of the sushi, so I can’t comment on that. I recommend just getting take out or delivery.

HORRIBLESERVICE I ordered the Shrimp pad thai, the shrimp tasted old and I ended up finding hair in it. On top of that, they sent someone to pick it up and had the audacity to call me back and tell me that THEREWASNOHAIRINTHEFOOD! Like are you kidding me? You really want to call back and tell me that I’m seeing things and there was not a LONGPIECEOFHAIRINMYFOOD! The hair was BLACK so I’m sure they see it! She was so rude and acted like she’s giving me a refund out of the kindness of her heart, and then proceeded to hang up on me! Do yourself the Favor and do not order from this restaurant! That Lady(Lena I believe was her name who I assume was the manager) has no idea what good Customer Service is and how you should treat a customer that had a bad experience! PS: I signed up for Unilocal just so that I could leave this comment and no one else goes through this experience; that’s how unprofessional she was about ME finding hair in my food!

I noticed that some people complained about the service, but I think it’s improved since that time. The staff was very attentive and promptly refilled our water when the it was low. Went for lunch and ordered the pad thai lunch special. It came with an option of a spring roll or salad. Opted for the spring roll, which was just that — one spring roll. The pad thai portion was small — I counted 4 pieces of small shrimp in there with the tail still on it. The taste was OK, but it wouldn’t make my top ten Thai restaurants list. Overall, it’s not a bad place, but the problem is that there are other good Thai restaurants that taste better and provide better portion size. You can serve it on a fancy dish but if it fails to satisfy customers, they will not return. It’s unfortunate, because this place does have potential, but it looks like a lot of people have already given up on it. The place was empty at around 12:15pm on a weekday.

WORST customer service ever. When we told our waiter ahead of time that we wanted to split the check he told us that he didn’t feel like doing that. He said that his manager taught him how but he doesn’t remember so we should just figure it out ourselves. Upon requesting to speak with his manager he walked away from the table and immediately walked back and said«hi I’m the manager today» and burst out laughing. Needless to say we were not amused. Moments later he came back with what was clearly a bus boy who introduced himself as the manager. We told him our issue with the split check and he told us he would see why he could do. Aside from that issue our meals arrived 20 minutes later and incomplete. Once we had our food the waiter returned and asked us what we said to the manager and if we complained about him. Very rude and unprofessional. I do not know how anyone would think this is acceptable behavior and I would strongly advise against going to this establishment unless you want to be verbally assaulted.

Worst customer service ever! Jason the manager is a complete dick. After getting 8 things wrong on our order, we called in and asked what happened. He said that he’s had problems with our address in the past(we work at a place of business and there’s 500 employees that order from places. This is our first time ordering from them). I asked«so you messed up our order on purpose because you had a bad experience from one of the other girls that work here??» He said«yes». Why didn’t they just see the address and not deliver to us then??? Why do you have to mess with our order on purpose? We’re currently sitting here at the sushi place waiting to talk to jason and they just keep on saying he’s busy. This is ridiculous and RUDE!

If I wanted Chinese food, I would’ve caught the next train to Chinatown. Thank god I didn’t pay full price. I was iffy about coming here, seeing all the bad reviews but seriously, can ya blame me? There are hardly any good food options around me and I don’t like paying overpriced crap just because it’s in Midtown and apparently, Chinese food is «exclusive». I made an order through Seamless for Pad Thai and upon arrival, they almost made me pay $ 9 — oh hell no! Plus, I already paid. I don’t know if these people pay attention to details or not, but there were no chopsticks nor extra napkins, as requested. I got three pieces of cheap, thin napkins I can’t even wipe my ass with. I’m not arguing about chopsticks or napkins because they’re doable without but when I opened my paper bag, the lid was opened. It had one tiny spring roll. THIS is called a lunch special? For $ 9?! One look at my food and I knew I didn’t want to eat it. Noodles were still white — I don’t remember the last time I had Pad Thai and the noodles were white. I mean, it’s good they don’t put anything to make it seem like they put a bunch of MSG and flavoring. who knows but THAT’S NOTHOWPADTHAISHOULDLOOKLIKE. The first few bites were okay until I dug in. it had a real weird taste but I don’t know what it was and don’t want to know. Not a lot of bean sprouts, too. The spring roll was very tiny — don’t expect much in it. In the end, I just couldn’t finish it because I was sick from it. Very bland food. Anyone who pays $ 9 for this so-called«lunch special» should get tied up.
