STAYAWAY from this ice cream stand. Small children will shed tears and large adults grimace. I don’t know what inspires this woman, rather than just sheer sadistic pleasure in seeing people’s reactions when they taste this concoctions. I ran into this innocent looking Japanese woman who speaks French. She has a small, lit ice cream freezer. When I looked into her freezer, she had two medium sized containers of her stuff. ‘I have Bergen Street theme today. Do you want ‘cheese’ or ‘bread’?‘ I will try both. ‘Okay.‘ She didn’t charge for it, by the way. In a tiny mouthwash size cup, she scooped up a little bit of the ice milk style confection. It was SO foul. I couldn’t even begin to correlate the flavor back to its original intended flavors. I had to find some other candy or sample at this food fair to cover the flavor immediately. Her other past flavors include: Miami Cuban Guacamole: pineapple, avocado, garlic, hot peppers St Marks Place Onigiri(rice ball): rice congee ice cream with nori and choice of seaweed or sesame-bonito topping 34th Street Kimchi sorbet Lower East Side Lox and bagels: lox sorbet with bagel flavored ice cream 38th St East Curry and chai ice creams Green Point Hungarian stuffed cabbage: onion confit and tomato sorbet in a frozen cabbage leaf East Village Red borscht: beet sorbet with sour cream and dill ice cream on the side Looks like she travels around at locavore street fairs. Beware!
