Failure of both fish and presentation. Tough conclusion to be made of a restaurant that can’t figure out how to serve chirashi — the classic dish of sliced sashimi on a bed of sushi rice. At Nana, sashimi arrived on a platter, with a dome of meagerly flavored rice on the side. So much for authenticity. Even worse was the presentation of escolar, the banned-in-Japan white fish that causes diarrhea. When asked about the fish’s identity, the waitress explained«white tuna.» In the words of Trump, WRONG! I’m not sure if it’s illegal to identify escolar this way, but it’s at least very misleading. Fortunately, no diarrhea after my dinner. Next time, will stick to rolls. Hold the escolar.

Nana is my new go to sushi restaurant in the neighborhood. I’ve tried almost every option in the area and Nana is great. It’s a large restaurant, pretty nice inside, and they have BYOB with no corkage fee. To start I always have a Kani salad. I really happen to love the Godzilla roll at Nana. The roll is just spicy tuna inside topped with avocado and eel/mayo sauces. I once tried the sweetheart roll and really didn’t love it. It’s great to have a sushi spot that’s consistent considering most sushi in the neighborhood is mediocre. Definitely worth trying it out!

FYI, it takes a while to get food and the service isn’t super good. Was here for lunch with one other. Interesting place with semi-better sushi than what I can find otherwise around my job. The atmosphere here is a bit bizzare. With the red lights, the bar, the seats, and especially the house/trance music, it almost reminds me of a club more than a random Asian Fusion place. I got some tea while the other guy got a plum iced tea. The former turned out to be free and nicely strong while the later reminded me of Maesil, a Korean plum tea. Had a similar flavor. He kind of liked it while I thought it was fine. For my main dish, I chose unagi don which was listed under lunch specials for 12:95 or something similar. The plate was quite large. The eel was quite fresh and while the rice was a little clumped, it still tasted fine. There were also some pickled radish and some pickled carrots which were both fine. I asked him about the free miso soup it comes with and he said it doesn’t though I thought the menu said otherwise. The other guy got a 3 roll choice for 11.50 or 12.50. He chose a shrimp tempura, California roll, and a sweet potato roll. He also got some spicy sauce to dip some of the rolls into. The portion size again was quite big. The wasabi on the side tasted pretty fresh and was quite spicy. The weakest of the three was probably the shrimp tempura but it still tasted OK. The california roll, which I usually dislike, was pretty fresh. Good amount of fake crab. The sweet potato roll was remarkably good with some excellent crunch and some nice sweetness. I’d easily order it again. It also came with the usual side salad/miso soup though I would note that the miso soup looked like it had a bit more seaweed than normal We got the check and the price was a little bit high. They charged me 18.95 for the lunch special. The waiter didn’t seem to know that it was part of the lunch special though I had pointed it out. He said my mistake, which seemed to be pretty genuine, and changed it to the lunch special price. I am not sure if the portion I got is also the same for lunch. Other than this, the food was fine, borderline quite good especially with the sweet potato roll,. If the service was better, I might bump it up to a 4. I’ll probably be back here again.

Seriously BYOB? Where is this even heard of, especially in city? Does it get better? Why, yes, yes it does! I could write a long exhausting review but it seems like some others have already done that. The pictures do not lie, the quality of the sushi is great. Great atmosphere, great prices, did i mention BYOB? Well I am going to say it again. Is it a fancy place you would get omakase? Nah I don’t think so. Is this a place for solid rolls and some basic gossip with your basic betches over some great wine? Like yah, totally!

What great sushi. First time ordering from them. Order came earlier than 45 mins and was definitely worth it. Will reorder for sure!

My favorite place for lunch ! I used to work close to Nana sushi but this is not the main reason to come back here, The main reason is perfect costumer service and tasty food. Thanks for our waiter, I don’t remember his name but he was so nice !

Our office has ordered sushi from here for the past few years. If I had written a review when we started ordering, I would have gone down to 3 stars, mainly because delivery was so slow. I’m glad to report that their delivery time has improved. Also, to be fair, we are a bit away from the restaurant. Their sushi is pretty good. The sushi & sashimi combo($ 49) for 2 is HUGE. It could easily feed 3. At $ 14 each, you may be better off ordering 2 sushi & sashimi lunch combos, which are well made and filling. Also, you get your choice of miso soup or salad with these. The miso soup is okay, but it’s more watery than in other Japanese restaurants. For me, the salad, which comes with sesame-ginger dressing on the side, is the better choice. The lunch special bento boxes are pretty good, and, at $ 7.75 or $ 8.75, well priced. You can’t go wrong with their chicken teriyaki. Recently, I started to order their lunch kitchen entrees, which feature Southeast Asian cuisine. I really liked their Malaysian red curry. Depending on your choice of tofu, chicken, beef or shrimp, these go for either $ 7.75 or $ 8.75, and you get a lot for your money. The vegetable spring rolls are pretty good. One appetizer is the Indian pancakes with curry potato dipping sauce. It has a unique(and I mean that in a very good way!) taste. I have visited the restaurant for lunch and dinner. The décor and service are very nice. I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.

Pretty chill spot. Went here with a few friends on a Saturday night around 6:30, and aside from two other tables, the place was empty. We didn’t let that deter us, though, and I’m glad we stuck around. About 30 minutes later, the place was alive and the tables were full. So Nana’s is cool because you can BYOB. We didn’t, just ordered drinks there, but it still added to the laid back atmosphere, I think. Even with most of the tables filled, I didn’t feel like it was overwhelmingly loud, like some places can get. The lighting was dim, but it adds to that laid back effect. Heard my friends well, and the staff didn’t rush us even when we finished eating and drinking, which I appreciated. Sushi: I only go for the veg options, so it’s pretty hard to mess that up. The cucumbers were fresh and had a nice bite, which contrasted really well with the creamy avocado. Also got the sweet potato sushi roll, which was creamy, but had a nice crunch to it. It was a little too much between the sweet potato & avocado, so maybe next time I’d go with another veg option for more of a textural contrast. My friends ordered something a little more complex, and the presentation was spot on. 5⁄5 for that. I wish I had taken pictures! Drinks: I ordered a mojito, and it had a nice boozy taste to it that wasn’t overwhelming to the palate. Even better, I tasted barely any sweetness(which I HATEHATEHATE with my drinks nowadays – that syrupy sweetness). Friends ordered restaurant specific drinks and they seemed satisfied, though one complained that the Sexy Nana(I think?) was a little too sweet. I believe it had grenadine, lemonade, and OJ in it though, so no wonder. Totally recommend stopping by if you’re in the area and in the mood for some sushi.

I have been to Nana about 5 times in the past month. I am a huge fan! There are a couple of sushi places in this area, but I keep coming back to Nana. I live close by so the location is extremely convenient for me. Prices are super cheap for NYC. The BYOB is a huge plus and they do not charge a corking fee. The staff is kind and attentive. The food is always fresh and delicious. Great for either sit down or take out. If you have a large group I would recommend calling ahead to reserve a table. Never had a problem with waiting though. They always seat parties promptly, but they do have a pretty large dinner crowd. Keep up the good work Nana!

Love this place. Great sushi and its BYOB. We brought a couple bottles of wine and beers and ate and shot the shit for hours. The staff is super accommodating and attentive. The food is delicious. I had the miso soup, vegetable spring rolls, house salad, and avocado rolls. The prices are also super reasonable. I def recommend and we will be back!

I went with my friend for a quick Tuesday evening dinner. If I were in the area, I could probably eat here again but there was nothing noteworthy about this place. The place was mostly empty, the servers pretty much left us alone unless we needed something, and the food was adequate. I ordered a seaweed salad, an eel avocado hand roll, and the shrimp tempura roll. The food was good for the most part(I love eel avocado hand rolls and this one was great). Only thing I can critique about the food is shrimp tempura roll was a little leafy(meaning too much lettuce poking out). Overall a good experience for a low key, casual dinner.

The food was very good. The service was nothing special, but they were very fast and curtious. I would recommend calling ahead to reserve a table since the restaurant is not too big. The sushi rolls were decent in size. I got the shrimp dumplings and they were delicious.

Nice place, empty on July 4th at lunch. We both got the Spicy Shambal Sauce Entrée, with very nice tofu, and very large portion, very happy about that. Girlfriend got the Peanut Avocado Roll, she loved it. Good, efficient and polite service. Note to some restaurants on Curry Hill, provide the vegetarian with a good portion, make it spicy, and have a polite waiter, and you will get higher ratings. We will be back to sample more.

I must say this is my favorite sushi place in the Murray Hill/midtown area. The fish is top quality and the price is definitely reasonable. My friend and I are definite regulars and several of the waitstaff know our typical order. My favs: sashimi pizza, fusion roll, spicy tuna, spicy scallop & yellowtail jalapeño. Only negative. At times when the restaurant is extremely busy, service can be on the slow side.

Okay okay, so it’s been a while since I’ve hit up Nana for dinner but after my grandparents treated me to dinner I figured why not update? Yes, my review remains at three stars, but if I could bump it to 3.5 I totally would. As my previous review states, the prices are a tad high for what you get, but I’ve learned you need to know what to order. Sashimi pizza is still, and will always be, my go-to, and I get it as my entrée. Agedashi tofu is a great appetizer but be careful, it’s piping hot! Skip the miso soup, it’s way too salty. If you do choose to get sushi rolls, they’re fine and most importantly, fresh, but I still think Umi on 31st Street is better. If you want the fusion-y type rolls, go to Nomado on 33rd.

My go to sushi place in Murray hill! By far the best one! The fish is so fresh and you can’t go wrong with anything you order. I will even order in take in! The sashimi pizza to start is amazing, the crust and fish all melt in your mouth. Favorite roll is the fusion roll followed by spicy scallop, spicy tuna and yellowtail jalapeño. If you come hungry try the sushi for two, amazing and the presentation is nicely done as well. Cute restaurant with darker lighting and tables and booths in the back. Love the service especially the waiter that we always have, goes above and beyond. You will not be diappointed if you go in!

Craving some sushi right before watching a movie at Kips. Nana is usually a place where all the females go right before they start their partying. You will notice this from all the yapping and high pitched«ohhhh myyyyy god!» The atmosphere is lively if that’s what you want. The sushi is pretty good. I’ve begun to steer away from all these special rolls after my experience in Japan. I ordered the sushi deluxe and it wasn’t half terrible. The ocean roll however was regretful. Not that it was bad but you really can’t taste the fish hidden in all that spicy sauce. Not a terrible place for a pit stop if you’re watching a movie or going out for drinks after.
