Mushin Mixed Martial Arts

They’re on classpass! Great upbeat group of guys that teach the classes here. It definitely has a man cave atmosphere when you walk in but the group is quickly welcoming. There is a lot of technique (I usually prefer more of an exhausting sweaty workout) but it’s a great way to shake up your fitness routine. They will challenge you! Great location in Union sq.

I tried their striking class and I loved it!
Erik was so helpful with techniques/​any questions & I learned a lot & lot today.
People are very friendly & welcoming (but very focused in a class) place were very clean with nice mat/​heavy bags.
It’s great for beginner as Erik made sure with paying great attention to each students.
I felt great after the class. (I was nervous at the beginning…)
E (effective)-fit class, Erik explained & sounds pretty good, I will go back for more classes for sure :)

I have been practicing Jiu Jitsu for several years and I have never experienced anything quite like Mushin. The instructors are on a completely different level than anyone I have learned from before, which has improved my technique tremendously. The environment is very friendly and nurturing and I feel like family when I am there. And it’s the same experience even with the instructors that I don’t work with, who teach other disciplines. I should also mention that the facilities are very nice, clean, and well maintained. I could go on and on, but I need to run over there soon for a class!

There are a lot of instructors out there, and this place by far has the best. Erik Owings is really a great person to learn from. Not only does he have the skill and the mindset to follow, but he is very humble and set on his ways. I take his classes all the time and I learn so much quicker from him because he explains everything in detail. His workout videos is something I take with me when I am out of town and I cannot find a gym that is easily accesible. Its like having him travel with me on my DVDs!
Erik is well respected by many people, and his knowledge and expertise goes a long way. I highly recommend taking one of his classes or training with him one on one!

Love this place. I didnt know how good I had it until I moved to cali. There are a ton of MMA gyms and clubs in the Area but no one beats the overall experience, atmosphere and knowledge of Mushin. What really separates them apart from everyone else is their level of technical skill as well as the fact that classes, even the group ones, are small enough that they can give every student instruction. You feel like a student here not another paycheck for them. It was started by a Deutcha bank exec, who obviously knows a thing or two about how to run a business. You wont be disappointed.

I’ve been going here for three months now and it’s been great. The reason why I picked this gym in the first place is the 6:45AM classes.
Having no experience whatsoever in MMA, I was a little hesitant about signing up, but after my first session those fears wear gone. It wasn’t like jumping into the deep end of the pool, Joe and Tony took their time to make sure I knew the basics.
My favorite class is the grappling with Tony.
Haven’t tried out the CrossFit, it looks pretty intense.
The place is ridiculously clean.

Just completed my 2^nd month @ Mushin. The experience, from joining and having questions answered regarding membership to the classes themselves, has been nothing but the BEST.
All the instructors are world class athletes and the energy in Mushin is palpable… you really have to experience it yourself. Passionate instructors and staff all around.
I take only morning classes and there is enough variety to pick from whether I want to do just grappling or just striking or crossfit or a mix of all three. They also have a website with all the classes scheduled throughout the week and I can plan and organize my information there.
Oh yeah… and if all that wasn’t enough– the gym is pristine. Great people who want to constantly improve themselves and others.

A real gem of a gym.
Everything about the place is first class, especially the instructors. Take Erik, he’s like a human body expert; he is so knowledgeable about optimizing training and how your body gets stronger. Not to mention he’s perhaps the fittest person in the country. If you knew who his training partners were you’d understand. All the other instructors are exceptionally talented. Everyone holds themselves to a ridiculously high standard.
You’d be really surprised by the variety of people that come in on the regular. All I can say is that everyone is there to improve. It doesn’t matter what goals or level you are going to learn and get better in a supportive, safe environment.
Also did I mention, it is the CLEANEST place to learn MMA in the city.

Mushin MMA is a top notch CrossFit and Martial Arts training facility. The team of instructors are not only incredibly skilled athletes but they are also very personable and accommodating. This guys are experts in their field and you can really tell that they are passionate about their craft. They are an encyclopedia of knowledge and really care about helping you reach your fitness goals and objectives.
Coming in as a new member to any gym, especially a private one, can often be a scary transition. I have found a lot of other gyms to be very cliquey and the atmosphere to often be very arrogant. This is not the case at Mushin. The sense of community from this gym is like none other – they really make you feel like you are part of a team. Every student helps out one another. They encourage and support you to push harder and get better. The staff is super friendly and they take the time to introduce themselves and get to know you as an individual and not just another «client».
I have been to many gyms in and around the city and Mushin, without question, rises above the rest in their class offerings, professional staff, and overall cleanliness. I love the small size of the classes. You really get a lot of personal attention which enables you to get the maximum benefit from each workout. I personally love the CrossFit classes. I had never done CrossFit before Mushin but now I am absolutely hooked!
I would definitely recommend Mushin to any one who is looking to make a serious change to their work out régime and reap the benefits of some kick ass training! The skills you will acquire and the changes you will see to your overall health and fitness levels are priceless. It would be a mistake to not check this facility out!

I had trained at many other MMA gyms in the city but when I discovered Mushin I felt at home. The gym is amazing! Super clean and full of all types of top of the line equipment for conditioning training. I was quite impressed.
The classes are perfect too. Most gyms in the city are so crowded and the classes are oversized with just one instructor so you never get any attention but at Mushin the class sizes are small so you get a lot of personal attention. There’s always an instructor close at hand to help you out and show a new move or improve on technique. Since I began training at Mushin, I feel I have advanced 3 times fast then I would anywhere else. Every class feels like you are working with a private trainer.
Being a female, it’s also nice to feel comfortable in a marital arts gym. A lot of gyms you feel like you’re being gawked at as a women training, but at Mushin the environment is completely female friendly. Everyone is super nice and never makes you feel out of place.
Between conditioning class, muay thai, and capeoria, I’m no longer bored at the gym doing mundane exercises and running on the treadmill. At Mushin, my workout is stimulating, intense, and kicks my butt.
After all the sweating, it’s nice to be able to shower in a clean bathroom. The bathrooms at Mushin are spotless which is an added bonus.
I can’t say enough great things about this gym! I highly recommend it!!! ENJOY!!!
