I ate the chicken vegetable soup today that was simply amazing. My grandmothers and even my mother didn’t and don’t cook soup so nicely. The smallest size was $ 7 and change but worth every penny.

We ate the eggs Benedict as well as the French toast and it was delicious. My daughter says it was the best French toast she has ever had! Fresh fruit, friendly service, and a great environment! If there was a sixth star I would give them that! 10⁄10 would recommend

Great lunch spot for cold winter days. I had the spicy turkey chili which was phenomenal. It was different than your regular chili because it had chunks of turkey instead of ground turkey, okra, and was very spicy! The flavor was on point.

This is the one place I miss most since moving to Florida! Best soups, I love all the choices, especially the vegetarian options. And even their pre-made salads are delicious!

*** Great selection of soup/stew, Amazing service, Cozy spot *** Although there isn’t much seating, I would highly recommend coming here if you’re interested/craving soup or stew. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. You can taste test all the selections to decide what you want to order. All soup and stew comes with fresh bread.

The concept is great and the platter price is reasonable($ 10 and the bread that came with it was the best part of the meal) but the goulash was nothing to rave about. Very turned off by the rice they used. Reminded me of Uncle Ben’s instant mush rice. The beef was quite tender, so the meal was not ruined. Would be willing to try again, just not the goulash.

my favorite lunch spot on 8th street. place is very small, probably only seats about 6 people comfortably. i always get my lunch to go. i usually only go there when i feel like treating myself, since it’s a little pricy for my student budget(~$ 11 for a lunch platter, which is typically some type of stew over brown rice with a bread roll on the side.) actually, when you consider that a burrito from chipotle or a bowl of health-junk from fresh and co are both in the $ 9 – 10 range, it’s not a huge jump at all to support mom’s, who not only give you better food(and more of it) but also have the added advantage of being not-a-chain(increasingly rare in this part of the nyc.) selection changes daily, but is always what could reasonably be described as wholesome home-cooked fare. they often have ropa vieja, which is probably my favorite dish that they make, but their other stuff is great too: chicken jambalaya, kale and quinoa lentil stew, mexican pork with tomatillos were all on the menu today. basically it’s like someone’s mom is cooking for you(hence the name), although this mom evidently has more time on her hands than most mom’s i personally know. i often find that their food needs a little salt, but guess what? they give you a tiny salt-packet with your to go order.

We had Cuban Ropa Vieja & Chicken Jambalaya over brown rice. Both were delicious. Great service too. Thank you for the great suggestions, Sez

my favorite part about this place is how they are NEVEROPEN. it’s a god damn stew place, why would you have reduced hours during the winter time? next time it’s 90 degrees out, I’ll be sure to come to Mom’s cooking for some hot delicious stew! true to their name, these owners clearly lack common sense — just like mom sometimes does!

I adore Mom’s and it’s one of my go to lunch spots. They have vegetarian and gluten free options, so it’s a great place if you have any dietary restrictions. The staff is warm and friendly and will gladly allow you to try multiple options. They’ll even explain what’s in each. My favorites are their smokey beef chili, their spicy chicken jambalaya(sausage in there too) and any of their stews. Warning: it’s much pricier than you’d expect, a soup and a drink will cost over $ 10. It’s always worth it to me though. especially in the winter! Nothing better than delicious, hot soup!

I’ve been here for lunch & I appreciate the variety of fresh soups & stews. I think I’m going to be coming here a lot more since it’s getting colder. I wish they had a small soup/half sandwich option though.

I really love the concept — a family business, and a homemade product. However, I’m always a bit disappointed because the welcoming isn’t as warm as one might think for a place with the name Mom in it. It always seems like the folks at the counter are a bit unhappy. It’s never quite the warm, welcoming smile I hope for. Too boot, I think their soups are lacking some umph. I tried the turkey chili today, and it lacked flavor, especially any kind of heat. Overall, it’s decent, but if Hale and Hearty were nearby, I’d go there first. Sorry :)

Why did it take me so long to find this place? It’s got pretty great soup. Love the beef barley and the bread isn’t bad either

I come here relatively often for lunch during the week, especially on a cold day. Their hearty soups and stews are filling and warming and the bread served with them is warm and fluffy. I like that you can taste things before ordering and while the food seems relatively healthy, I do find that a lot of times they lack salt. Is it the best food? No, but it’s a good option for a healthy-ish, quick lunch.

This place is alright, the main reason why I frequent this place is simply due to its proximity with NYU(I’m a student there). I personally think the soups are mediocre at best, and at a price of ~$ 7-$ 9 per cup, it’s really not the most economical ratio of price to quality/quantity. They offer their soups in small or large sizes, and when it’s appropriate they have the option of serving it on rice(like jambalaya on rice, but not clam chowder on rice). As of the last time I went(like April 2013) they did not have breadbowls. The sandwiches are actually pretty good, but for its price and size sometimes I’m drawn to the neighboring subway instead simply because for a buck or two cheaper I can get a sandwich literally double the size.

I’m a fan here, like it personally. May not be 4-star for everyone I recon. They used to have sandwiches which I miss but the soups and stews are good and homey. They have a few veg-x options. Their salads and parfaits are also popular, and can also be found in the NYU Stern cafeteria, but I don’t buy anything in disposable plastic. I can’t eat this on a reg. basis but I hit this place like once a week or so bc I work around there. Ask the girls for their recommendation because a few items are similar to each other. One of the girls that work here is super great especially(Fer) I like her. I forgot to tip today even after they gave me free extra-bread so I’m leaving a good review on Unilocal instead but will 2ble-tip you next time!

Great vegan soup options + generous sized salads or soup/salad combos. Staff isn’t friendly at all, they’re quite short in answering any questions about the soups. «How much is a medium?» MC: «It’s on the board. :Eyes scanning all over: MC: $ 6. It says $ 6. I hope they take in a little sunshine but the food is great so, I deal. Our communication is at a minimum but efficient.

I’ve been there before and my food ok. Not great. Today I went it and I am so annoyed. I got the chicken soup –which is full of chicken and veggies but kind of bland. and the Turkey, Provolone and Tomato chutney sandwich. My bread was STALE and there is not chutney to be found. My granola bar was also sub par. WTF? $ 13 for a lunch that was womp womp womp? Moooooom I got a really bad lunch from… oh wait. From you! Mom my lunch today sucked…
