food: fried chicken. the chicken itself was bland, but the sandwich as a whole was a great combo. i will definitely want to try the others. ***4/5 service: clean space and the servers were nice. you can see through the kitchen and watch your sandwiches be made. ***3/5 value: if it included a side with the price, it wouldve been perfect. i was still hungry after the sandwich. totally worthwhile for another visit. ***3/5

So, visiting fabulous NYC I found this yummy spot in FiDi. I wanted something simple and tasty, and Melt Shop answered the call. The Classic grilled cheese was very tasty, lightly buttery with the yummiest crispy edges. Reasonably priced for NYC, it hit the spot. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was well kept. Though I did not have them, I really like that they offer tater tots instead of the common fries. It gives them a unique twist which I appreciate. Melt Shop is definitely worth checking out if you are in the mood for simple and good food!

We were passing by on a weekend after getting into NYC. The entire financial district area is pretty quiet on weekends in general so I was surprised to find this place open. We were starving. No surprise, there was barely any wait. The food came out decently fast. They are known for their grilled cheese so we obviously tried that! I had a more simple one. Overall, it was okay. It was filling enough but nothing special for the price I paid. I’m not sure if I’ll stop by again but I might recommend it for the other special grilled cheese dishes.

3.5-Stars for Melt Shop, but I rounded up cause they have Tater Tots, which I love and are hard to find. In some ways, the idea of Melt Shop is better than the actual food. Meaning, almost everyone loves a grilled cheese or tater tots or a fried chicken sandwich, but after you eat it you feel terrible about yourself, or at least I do, lol. And Melt Shop is fairly pricey for what you get, in my opinion. Here’s what I’ve had and my rating: 1. Classic Grilled Cheese: very good grilled cheese, and bigger than what you’d get at a diner, but also pricier. 2. Fried Chicken Sandwich: probably the best thing on the menu, and it’s huge and heavy, so it could feed two people. 3. Tater Tots: love tater tots and even though Melt Shop’s isn’t necessarily the best I’ve had, they’re still pretty good. 4. Chocolate Truffle Milk Shake: terrible, absolutely terrible. Do not order a shake here. I could almost taste all the chemicals in it — took a few sips and threw it away. One last thing… I highly recommend you eat the food at the restaurant rather than delivery or takeout cause the food doesn’t travel well. It’s so much better when you eat it hot right when it comes out, cause by the time you get it at home or in your office, everything is sort of soggy — I’ve made this mistake before. So, if you’re gonna do Melt Shop, eat your food at the restaurant. So, l do think Melt Shop is pretty good, and will have it every now and then, especially after a night of drinking, but I try not to make a habit of it as it’s pretty greasy and unhealthy. But have to admit, I do like it.

Exquisito!!! Ya de afuera parecía rico. Un lugar con un excelente diseño y unos Sandwich con un gusto sensacional. Las papas con parmesano y perejil fue una de las combinaciones más ricas que probé en NY. Vale la pena ir!!!

I came in here wanting to try it out. Ordered the chicken sandwich and shop tots. The chicken sandwich was so delicious, I didn’t want it to end even though I was more than full already. The red cabbage slaw in it was a perfect added ingredient and I was really loving it. The shop tots was so damn good and I usually hate tots. They were so wonderfully seasoned and just melted in my mouth, delicious. They also serve beer so that’s a win in my book. I was very happy with the service and quality of this place. Will defiantly return in near future. (Ps Long Island location sucks)

I went with a friend for the first time, a week after another friend recommended it to me. I had high expectations and I got the fried chicken sandwich. It looked really appealing but the fried chicken wasn’t freshly cooked because it wasn’t even warm. The chicken was dry and overall it didn’t have much flavor. My friend had the 3 cheese sandwich which is just a very mediocre sandwich. She said there wasn’t anything special about it and agreed that there food is very average. I wouldn’t go to the melt shop if you’re looking for really good food, which there is plenty of, especially in New York City.

Financial District is very different from midtown. Aside from Stone Street and a stretch of restaurants along the Seaport, the food outlets are designed for takeaway and quick pickups. Amidst the Just Salad, 2 Chipotles, Dos Toros, Roti Mediterranean, a couple of juiceries, Chickpea, a bunch of coffee shops, some fast food burger places, and the gastropubs, all in a two by two block radius, lies the Melt Shop. The Melt Shop finds the perfect balance between I-just-need-a-cheap-ass-sloppy-joe and my-soulcycle-butt-aint-going-nowhere. It’s not healthy, but it’s not nasty — it’s sinful. I’m gonna have to say it. The Grilled Cheese is one of man’s most delightful yet minimal dishes. Put some cheese between two slices of bread, and done right, you got yourself an orgasm in every bite. The Melt Shop does Grilled Cheese like you imagine it to be done. You know when you have cravings, and you just want the cheese from every hot bite of sandwhich to just ooze out and stretch like pizza. That’s the Melt Shop. Every. Single. Time. It is in reality as good as the heavily-overlit McDonalds commercials make their own burgers out to be. When I come here, I get a sandwich($ 5 – 10), a side of tomato soup($ 3) and depending on my mood, a beer($ 5). Overall, it’s a quick Chipotle-budget meal of $ 10 – 15. I typically get the either: 1. Classic — 9⁄10 — beautiful olé classic 2. Classic with Bacon — 9.5÷10 — the best you can get 3. 3 Cheese — 8⁄10 — nice and cheesy 4. Truffle Melt — 7⁄10 — it’s too truffley Cheat day? Soul cycling more than you care for? Come here and calm the fuck down.

The Melt Shop is one of the best grilled cheese sandwich place in Manhattan for a fast food chained restaurant. Hands down. The basic facts– –I came here today, March 16th, 2016 with my boyfriend after college. –We got some seats(it wasn’t even crowded despite it being 2 – 3 o’clock). The restaurant is small and only have a total of 6 tables. –We ordered the«Hamburger Melt Sandwich», «Loaded Tater Tots», and then one Dill Pickle. The Pros– –The people working here are very friendly towards you! –The wait was decent and the food looks delicious(please see the attached photos). –Food? Awesomely delicious(if that is a word). My hamburger melt sandwich was well made. It had enough sauce for the taste to be good(but I didn’t like how it dripped everywhere). It didn’t fill me up all the way but it was nice for it to last me until dinner that night. The tots were pretty good as well with a lot of cheese and other things like peppers and also bacon bits. –Unlimited refills on your drinks. –The sandwich itself fills you up very quickly. I had to share my sides with my boyfriend or else I wouldn’t have been able to finish it. –There’s a variety of food to choose from. If you’re a vegetarian, there’s a good amount of food made only of salads and cheese sandwich with no meat. –You can get gluten free bread for your sandwich for a extra 1 – 2 dollars. –They have outlets in the back of your tables since its up against a wall. Feel free to bring your charger and charge your phone while you eat. –New fountain so you can choose your drinks now easily! The Cons– –Very small space. With only 6 tables, it’s hard to find a spot during the rush hour if you wished to come here with your friends or family for lunch. –Sandwiches are meant to be mess free and easy to eat but that does not apply here to the Melt Shop at all. If you want to eat it, trust me, it’s best if you sit somewhere with a table in order to eat it. Every single item on the Sandwich menu is very messy. If you wish to not make a mess, you HAVE to sit down and eat or be extra careful about it. They are extremely flimsy and messy. I actually spilled some sauce on myself even though I was sitting down! –This place is kind of pricey for a sandwich. One sandwich is an average of about 5 – 10 dollars depending on which one you pick. –No public bathrooms. –My loaded tater tots was okay but it’s actually cold, not warm. I’m not sure if it’s because they didn’t melt the cheese enough of what but mine was just cold compared to the other Melt Shops I went to before. Overall: –It’s a fast food chained restaurant do you can’t expect much for it. It’s also a comfort food place as well. You won’t be expecting much but a better food than any other comfort food place. Although the pricing are a bit outrages, it’s actually pretty worth it if you ask me.

Came across this place searching for a nice lunch Spot different from where I normally go. Definitely wasn’t disappointed! The customer service was great at answering all of my inquiries regarding the menu. Despite being pricey, I found the classic grilled chicken sandwich and parmesan tator tots delicious. Will come back again for sure, mainly to try one of their shakes.

You have to try the Grilled Chicken sandwich. It comes with a juicy grilled chicken, havarti, roasted tomatoes, and most importantly TRUFFLEMAYO. The truffle mayo is what really brings the sandwich to another level. It’s so damn delicious. Must try! I’ve also had the Kicken Chicken salad which was A-ok, nothing special. Since it is a sandwich shop, I would stick with the sandwiches.

I think my pictures say it all. Way too much mayo, way too little chicken. Grilled chicken sandwich turned out to be(for the most part) mouthful of just bread, cheese, and mayo. One can tell how much effort or care was put into assembling this sandwich just by the glob of mayo itself. Definitely not the Melt Shop I enjoyed and remembered from two years ago.

Wandering around the Financial District, we didn’t want to go to a long sit down, fancy schmancy place to have some lunch. After checking out some of the Halal food carts on the street, which didn’t really tickly my fancy, I hit up the good ol’ Unilocal to see what was near us. Found a sandwich place called Melt Shop so we were on our way. Definitely busy inside with the work crowd especially around lunch time. When walking in, stay to the left, don’t go to the right like we did. A friendly New Yorker lady told us «the line is over there»…thank you lady! So be sure you are in the correct line. Everything looked pretty good so we just got a Fried Chicken Sandwich, a Grilled Chicken sandwich and some Shop Tots. Shop Tots were pretty awesome, nicely crisp tots dusted with parmesan cheese & parsley. A great side to accompany the tasty sandwiches. As for the sandwiches, the grilled was quite good, nice melty cheese, truffle mayo, tomatoes on lovely toasted bread. The fried chicken sandwich was even better, delicious slaw, melty cheese, and their special sauce. Good sized sandwiches, cut in half if you want to switch it up with your partner in crime, prices were ok as well, staff was also pretty friendly. Overall, glad we came by and had a tasty lunch!

Lol dumb tourists. This place is overpriced trash. — can get better grilled cheese/tomato soup at most crappy diners.(The spices in the tomato soup clashed with each other and it didn’t compliment the grilled cheese sandwich. And the grilled cheese tasted like f’ing Kraft cheese. Bacon was cold. They messed up my order and forgot the tomatoes.) — crappy indie pop from some bland internet radio station blasts loudly. — no public restroom. — absolutely disgusting in comparison to the new wave of grilled cheese sandwich trucks/shops that have cropped up in most American cities. –overpriced af. Could have made the exact same thing at home for a few bucks.

I went here on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving for lunch. There was a little bit of a crowd, but I didn’t take long to order and didn’t wait long for my food. I ordered the Grilled Chicken, the Buffalo and Shop Tots. The Grilled Chicken was a winner. Everything that I love was in that sandwich. The chicken was made nicely, the harvarti went great with the truffle mayo and I am a multigrain bread fiend. The rest of my order, not so much. The tots did nothing for me, even with parmesan cheese on top. Also, I thought pepper jack with blue cheese on the Buffalo would be a hit, but my taste buds thought other wise. Oh well. All in all, I would go here again. I’ll probably try the Big Skinny and the Burger Melt on my next visits.

Came here after meeting with a Client. Got the Truffle Melt, Loaded Tots, and the Oreo Shake. Make sure you get a fork for the loaded tots or else you’ll need a endless supply of napkins. The prices may be a bit high for just cheese but keep in mind you are in the city so expect to pay city prices, the food was good. I’ll probably come back next time I’m around. I can’t say how the seating is during lunch time as I came here around 6PM and there was seating everywhere.

I came here with a few friends for a quick lunch, and this place did the job. I tried the fried chicken sandwich and the tater tots. The fried chicken sandwich was great and wasn’t dry. The tots weren’t as good as I had hoped for them to be, as they were just basically generic tater tots with some cheese/topping on them. The food is not super cheap, but also not super expensive. The food came out pretty quickly as well, although there weren’t many others in the place at the same time as us. It’s a nice place to grab lunch, but I wasn’t blown out of my seat because of anything.

Their motto is «comfort food made from scratch». While the ‘comfort food’ part is 100% true(because anything that greasy and that cheesy can’t really be anything BUT comfort food), I highly doubt their food is ‘made from scratch’.unless their definition of ‘scratch’ is super lax. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and the shop tots. The sandwich was a little too heavy on the mayo and light on the tomatoes, but it was satisfyingly greasy. Sorry, my dear heart! I’ll give them the ‘made from scratch’ for the sandwiches. but even then, that would be stretching the definition of ‘scratch’. Beyond that… the tots were definitely NOT made from scratch. They looked like they were purchased in bulk from Costco and dressed with the different toppings that are offered on the menu. The food was delicious, but it bothers me that they promote their food as ‘made from scratch’ when that is very obviously not the case.

Oh man, I kind of wish I didn’t find Melt Shop so close to the office – but I’m so really happy to discover Melt Shop as a lunch option! If you’re feeling like a guilty grilled cheese and tater tots, Melt Shop is perfect to satisfy the craving. It was hard to choose, but I had the burger melt, which was even better than I was expecting! It’s a grilled cheese with a burger patty melted in with caramelized onions. The tater tots are topped with parmesan. It was perfect for a guilty Friday lunch – it was definitely heavy, and I couldn’t finish it, but was wishing I could! I’m excited to try other grilled cheeses on the menu :) A plus, you can place your order online with the time you intend to pick up.

I have been wanting to try this new location for a while but just didn’t have the chance until now. My coworker and I decided to go there around 11:30 right before lunch time to avoid the long lines. When we got there, we were greeted by a very courteous staff. She recommended me her favorite chicken sandwich which was delicious and she offered us the lemonade as well. I accidentally left my lemonade in the store for Like a minute and when I went back that same staff was already ready to put the lemonade back to the fridge to save it for my return. Service is definitely 5 stars. The fried chicken sandwich was great! The chicken was juicy and tender and the bread was crispy. The entire sandwich was a good combination. Overall, it was a well worth sandwich. I will definitely go back to try the other items.

Thanx to my fellow Unilocalers I found this little spot. Located in FIDI on Fulton St, Melt Shop was on my list of places to conquer and conquer I did. I really should have checked the menu before going in but of course I didn’t. The staff were super sweet and so patient with me since I had no clue what to order. Finally I just decided on the Wisco(Sharp Cheddar, brick spread, tomato, bacon on white bread) ordered some tots along with it and a fountain drink. Their fountain machine is so modern all touch screen. Pretty cool! I decided to have a seat at one of their stools which are a little high for a short person like myself but I managed. They called my name when my order was done and brought it right to me. At first sight I was in ahhhhh, I just couldn’t wait to dig in but I need to take a picture of the yummiest in front of me. It’s only polite to share a visual. The first two bites was a little strong on the cheddar cheese and a bit over powering less would be better. The bacon was very yummy and satisfied my needs. They cut the sandwich in two and by the time I got to my other half after one bite it started to fall apart which made it a little messy to eat. It also got cold since I ate one half and then chowed down on my tots which I finished before I got to my other half because they tots were amazing! All in all I enjoyed myself. I will be back to try something else. Their friendly staff and amazing customer service is really what will force me to return. Yes the food is good and all but it’s not a place that I would make one of my regular spots. Happy eating!
