We put our name on the list for comedy cellar and headed across the street to this hidden gem while waiting for closer to the show! I’ve heard it’s been cleaned up a lot since the past but I thought it was great! They have a back area with games for groups and long high tops up front to hang with friends at. It’s a real dive bar feel with beer signs and tvs on the walls. It was pretty clean in my opinion and the bartender was super sweet!!! I am also a big fan because they hs PBR cans which is one of my boyfriends go too!

fun underground getaway for our group over a few games of pool. reasonable prices for the n’hood as the bartenders are cooler than you but also personable 8pm on a saturday 90s alternative plays in the background, its dark with a walkable and talkable crowd as we had the table to ourselves for the most part

Cool spot, nice selection of beer on tap, has awesome deals for happy hour! All drafts $ 4, can’t beat that. Friendly staff.

Quaint little bar in one of my favorite neighborhoods. Has that obnoxious need to pump in thumping, unpleasant pop music despite ostensibly being a sports bar. That said, it’s probably less loud/obnoxious than your average sports bar, plus it doesn’t seem to be as overcrowded as the typical New York lounge/pub. Was accosted-repeatedly-by an overly friendly lush, but I won’t hold that against the proprietors of this establishment. Overall, a solid B– as far as sports bars go.

Dive bar. Zero frills. Strange smells. Camp out here for a quick drink on a cold evening while before heading to the Comedy Cellar.

solid spot to stop in for a few drinks when out on macdougal. has that divey feel and love that they have darts in the back room. drinks are cheap and there is always decent beers on draft. oh and they have a jukebox, who doesn’t love a juke box?! crowd is also a good mix of peeps too.

My dad and I found this spot strolling around the East Village when he was in town a couple weeks ago. Seemed more inviting and traditional/divey than many of the area’s offerings, and we were looking to kill time between our lunch brews and our nighttime follies so we headed down the stairs and inside. Cozy setting, but plenty of room to spread out at a high-top. Friendly, outgoing bartender and a decent selection of craft brews with a couple local offerings. Top-notch and just what we were looking for. Could see this becoming a weekend afternoon staple whenever I’m in Manhattan.

Decent beer selection(Bronx Brewery and a few national craft brewers on tap) and $ 4 beers for happy hour — can’t beat that! Big tables, good wifi(which you need because there is NO cell service there!), pool table, TV’s, good music. I’d stop by again.

Very rude staff. They are«too busy» to help you when you call on the phone because you accidentally left your driver license there.

Forget the nonsense everyone below me is talking about. Losing a star cus the bartender won’t drink on shift? Average looking place? Come on. This place has what you need, a good selection of beer, a pool table, and darts. It’s clean and the beer is cold and priced appropriately. If you need more than this don’t go to a dive bar. You don’t like it, enjoy waiting 20 minutes for a 15 dollar mixed drink at the other bars on this street. I’ll be busy playing pool and enjoying myself here

We were there in the mid afternoon on Wed, Oct 14, 2015. The worst service. There were 6 of us. We each had 1 beer. Played a little darts. we would have stayed for another beer, but the bartender was so bad we left and went somewhere else. She had no idea about the beers on tap. she had ZERO personality. Other than getting us our 1 beer, all she did was play on her smartphone. I know there were some negatives about the atmosphere. It was Ok. If it was not for the bartender, I would go back. just plain old BADSERVICE. My wife got mad that I even tipped her.

I’m not one to usually leave a bad review based on service, but when a place doesn’t have much going for it in the first place, it really drags it down further. I stumbled across this place because Old Rabbit was having fridge problems. I usually love divey bars for their character, but this place has none and a very unfriendly bartender to boot. She was near the end of her shift looking after a rather empty bar and gave a great amount of attitude. There are a few bar games here, like pool up front and darts in the back, but it’s just very very average and on a street with so many cool looking spots, it’s hard to understand how this place manages to stay afloat.

Decent dive bar, nothing special and yet I do always enjoy my time here. Definitely not a go to if you’re looking for a wild time but if you’re in the market for pool, darts, cheap beer, and a laid back atmosphere than this is a good spot to visit.

I don’t like it here at all… it smells like a public restroom, and it reminds me of someone’s unfinished basement. It’s dark and sparse in the main bar area. The darts area in the back is like a bomb shelter with harsh fluorescent lighting and graffiti’d stone walls. You can either sit at the tiny bar, or sit around the tiny tables with barstools. Not comfy… Both times we went here, we had one drink and left.

MacDougal Ale House NY Manhattan Greenwich 2am Saturday Morning 6th June 2015 Three Stars This was an enjoyable dive bar. There was a drunken older guy yelling«excuse me, excuse me, EXCUSEME» to the bartender. When she answered he axed how do you put money in the pool table. She responded with«you just put your money in it.» Then the bouncer comes by and says you can’t play pool since they lost the cue ball somewhere in the bar. They played Mariah Carey, Rod Stewart, and playin other great hits. I enjoyed another markers and the diverse crowd dancing gay guys and straight guys failing miserably at hitting on my friends. The bartenders were friendly. The drinks were pretty cheap.

Dubbing this an «ale house» is the equivalent of calling me «Madonna». Dirty floors/seats and cheap(and watered down drinks). Yeah, they have beers on tap but that doesn’t make you an ale house. Amp up the cultured vibe. They do have a dart board in the back. You have to leave $ 20 which is returned when you return the darts. That’s fair. As my friends were playing, the floor started flooding. Awesome.

Came here after brunch @ Janes as we just wanted more to drink. Was pretty empty for a Sat afternoon, but that was fine as we were able to get served whenever and no wait. We shot a game of pool to kill some time and shot some darts in the back. Drinks were pretty cheap and they had a decent beer selection. I had Yuengling of course. Decent dive spot to hit up… as we were leaving the crowd began to thicken so I guess it gets amped up after 5 on Saturdays

This used to be a fun bar until they put in the pay jukebox. Music is so important to a bars success. If you want to have a consistent crowd you have to have a consistent vibe. When two dude are playing pool and blasting metal it kills the atmosphere for everyone else. It’s not worth whatever you make on the jukebox if it playing to an empty place all the time. Get rid of that this and get this place going the was it was ten years ago.

When I came in here, they were running a special… $ 3 dollar drafts. I’m no rocket scientist, but that’s a pretty good deal, especially if you can get items like Magic Hat, Guinness, and YuengLing for $ 3 a pint. They had other items like blue moon, stella, coors. stuff I usually stay away. I guess this left me a bit disappointed considering this place was called an «alehouse.» Bartender there was friendly and you can hit up the pool table /darts if the place isn’t too packed. Only problem is that this place kind of reeked. It had that old puke smell to it, which I assume was from some of their dirt cheap alcohol specials. This seemed like a good place to grab a quick drink and move on to another location. 3 stars!
