Am only reviewing delivery service here. Ordered 6.30 pm on a sunday so not exactly peak time. Told it would take 30 – 40 minutes, finally delivered pizzas 2 hrs later. Cold and dry as the delivery guy had taken 20 minutes to go 10 blocks. They also tried to charge us $ 18 for a pizza we didn’t get(they got the order wrong and missed oof a pizza). I had friends form Europe visiting and promised them a great American pizza. Very disappointing. Have eaten here about 6 times. I like the vibe and some of the food here is great(the cherry tomato pizza is outstanding, bacon and brussel sprout is not) but the restaurant is disorganized and has on three occasions taken more than 45 minutes for food to arrive. And some of the dishes are unjustifiably expensive. There are very few alternative restaurants in this area however which, in addition to some very good menu items, is why Macchina is quite popular. However, as soon as another good brick oven pizza restaurant opens up, I wont be going to macchina and I suspect many other people will also bail on them.

This is my new favorite restaurant in the area — it has great wine, the pizza is amazing, service is great — all in all, it’s a total win! Great place for a date or a group dinner!

This is based on service alone, not food… My husband made a reservation for 6 for dinner. I arrived before the rest of the group, and the«hostess»(more swine than hostess) said she had no record of our reservation, made the day before. When my husband arrived, again she reiterated she couldn’t find our reservation, and called over a manager who demanded to know who he made the reservation with. Sorry, Macchina, you’re a cheap pizza joint on 106th St., not Le Cirque, we didn’t note the reservation girl’s name. We live in the neighborhood and were looking forward to checking out Macchina, but our money will be far better spent at Mezzogiorno, where they actually have manners and good food, for Italian in the neighborhood.

Macchina is a great new neighborhood addition — the pizzas(especially pizza biancas) are consistently tasteful and made with high quality ingredients. Their pastas are decent, but be careful — the small truly is very small! Have been going here for awhile and will plan on continuing to go!

It’s just OK. Had a few pizzas and apps. Pizza’s were decent. Appetizers were good but INSANELY over priced($ 19 for 4 bacon wrapped figs?! Come on!!) Would not recommend. Better fish in the NY(sea)

Came here last night with my aunt. She lives in the neighborhood and hadn’t had the chance to check this place out. Macchina doesn’t have a very large menu selection, so if you’re looking for a place with tons of food to choose from, this isn’t for you. But if you are looking for quality, fresh food, you’ll find it here. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts as a starter. They were amazing! Perfect amount of flavor and great for sharing between two people. I’m one of those people who typically goes out to Italian restaurants and get ziti, lasagna, or fettuccine alfredo. I guess I would describe myself as a somewhat picky eater with a limited palate. Anyway, I decided to go with the Cheese Ravioli with mushroom cream sauce. It was AMAZING! Great presentation and great taste. My aunt went with the salmon special and again, it was beautifully presented and tasted great. For dessert, we got the chocolate ganache and oreo cheesecake. They were both delicious! It was quiet and the décor and ambience were fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly, too, and had a lot of great recommendations(she recommended the cheesecake). I definitely hope to come back here again!

A very welcomed and aesthetically pleasing business to the neighborhood. It’s good to see nice looking spaces in the area, and it’s a very alluring place. BUT, the pizza is just ok, the Rock n’ Roll theme makes it feel cheesier than it should and the service is just o.k. I wanted to love this place. I wanted good pizza without going all the way to Lucali in Brooklyn, but it just did not deliver. We ordered two pies. The BRUSSELSSPROUTSSMOKEDBACON needs a LOT more bacon because why not? The PEPPERONI pie with its soppressata, provolone, red onion, cherry peppers almost delivered, but I wasn’t too crazy about the dough. It’s chewy, but not in a way that’s mind-blowing. Still, this would be a great place to come for a cocktail or a glass of wine and hang out at the bar. I have yet to try their knots, meatballs, or pastas, but so far I left very unimpressed, desiring a hell of a lot more. Just my opinion and personal experience. Could be much, much better.

Sat at the bar with Valentine and my wife and I shared a salad and pizza. Great service and the pizza was tasty. Salad was overdressed for me but others may like that. Will come back for baiter try.

Reasonably priced. Pleasant atmosphere. Tasty pizza. A very tasty appetizer. Attentive staff. All in all, one of the best places in the neighborhood.

Fast and thoughtful service(our water glasses were always full), uniquely delicious cocktails, and of course, freshly made flavorful pizzas! And let us not forget the decadent cheesecake on a layer of oreo crumbs. Also, this is the one aspect that makes or breaks a restaurant for me, and I gotta say — Macchina played the best tunes all night long. You won’t regret it! P. S. I heard Jason Schwartzman likes their pizza.

What makes Macchina stand out from several other italian restaurants in our neighborhood is the bar(interesting cocktails tho expensive at $ 12 a pop), but it is spacious and friendly. The corner spot with the windows is also appealing as is the wood-fired pizzas. The Fargo salad and the mushroom ravioli is excellent. My son enjoyed the pork shank, tho again, pricey. The biggest miss was the cauliflower steak. Not even a steak cut but a hunk of slightly over cooked cauliflower. Very disappointing. The music is way too loud as well. There are some other 4 star choices for italian in the vicinity.

New place that popped up near me. Naturally I had to try it. I ordered the cauliflower steak and it was delicious. However, the portion was alarmingly small. I just wish it was larger because it was so good. The floors of the place seemed like a dirty stone, but I kind of liked it. They had ceilings that exposed piping above, and mesh wire to fence off different areas. It is a little expensive, especially for the neighborhood but should be tried at least once.

My beau and I live in the neighborhood and have been here once before. We weren’t blown away, but we had a perfectly pleasant experience with pleasant service and pleasant food. Tonight was NOT that experience. I manage a restaurant, so let me preface this by saying that I’m not approaching these issues blindly — I understand that sometimes things don’t work perfectly. We were seated quickly and with a pleasant demeanor. Our server was perfectly professional and kind, listed the specials(two of which we ordered), and then started bringing out drinks and food. I had a glass of red that was delicious, my boyfriend had a jack and coke that was flat, oddly sour, and generally off. He’s a person who admits that a jack and coke isn’t exactly the most sophisticated drink, but orders them frequently enough to know what they taste like. We both took sips to verify the off-ness, and then sent it back and asked for a glass of wine intstead. then the pizzas came. soggy, not particularly hot, over-crusted and under topped. The tomato sauce tasted old and potentially soured, and the special pizza(goat cheese and beets) was fine flavor-wise, but totally under cooked in the crust. On top of this all, the ENTIRE restaurant smelled like rat poison, and to be honest everything else could have been tolerated if it wasn’t for that. It wafted through so strongly, and was an unbelievable turn off. I have managed napolitan pizzerias, and i currently manage a rustic italian restaurant. the prices are extravagant for the pizza, and frankly seem greedy. i hope that the people in my neighborhood can recognize the lack of quality for the monetary quantity and venture elsewhere. Bummer, because i always hope the best for a new restaurant enterprise, but this particular situation was undeserving of any encouragement.

Really amazing pasta, homemade and delicious. Made from scratch pizza, fresh ingredients. Service was fantastic, would definitely keep on coming back.

Ordered delivery from here for the first time. It’s fairly new in the neighborhood, so we decided to try it out. I got the mushroom pizza, which was one size for $ 18. I figured this was reasonable, as it was comparable to the prices at Numero 28, another local pizza place. When the pizza came, it was SO small, not at all worth the money. The pizza itself was not impressive. Would not order here again. Disappointed, because the pictures online made it look like a cute new spot.

Really kind staff all around, from bartender to hostess, waiter and buss boy. I was surprised with how quickly the food came out and it was really delicious. We started with garlic knots, then got sausage pizza, ravioli and the tiramisu and Nutella cheesecake for dessert. All were fantastic. The restaurant has a cool vibe. Rustic exposed brick, fairly small but cozy. I will definitely go back!

I love this place! Any time I fill like a good Italian food in the neighborhood and dissent wine — I come in to Macchina. Like chefs say: you know good pizza when you like simplest one of them — the Margarita. Here it is Cherry Tomato $ 14. Well made thin crust pizza that doesn’t leave doubts of being great! Ravioli is my another favorite. Pair that all with good wine(the wine list is very accessible) and … bellissimo! You get it!

For those of you who’ve been wary of visiting, let me offer an insight on the portions — they’re definitely on the small side relative to traditional red-sauce Italian restaurants, but they’re absolutely reasonable at this level of cooking.(This may not have initially been the case — our waiter said portion size was increased in response to complaints after Macchina first opened.) My wife & I had two small pastas and then shared a pizza, and it was a perfectly filling meal, although by no means gut-busting. Anyway, moving along from quantity to quality, the pastas really are pretty inspired. The carrot agnolotti and the ricotta ravioli are each winners featuring delicate dough, vibrant sauces and a bounty of exotic farmers-market veggies. With respect to pizza, this is the Neapolitan pie that the UWS has been lacking for so long — blistered, bubbly, crisp, foldable, delicious. Tried the soppressata pizza with provolone and cherry peppers, and it was devilishly spicy. I’d like to see some more adventurous toppings offered on the other pizzas, but that’s just a minor quibble. Craft cocktails are good, albeit nothing special. Wine is marked up quite high. Service is friendly and professional. Ambiance is fun and happening but at the same time unpretentious and approachable. Overall, given the location in the West 100s, I can understand why some locals have sticker shock, but Macchina is a great injection of higher caliber cuisine for the area.

I agree with all of the other reviews so far. The food is really good, totally high quality and very unique. HOWEVER, Macchina seems very over-priced for the amount of food you get. The portions are VERY small and you wind up paying $ 100 and leaving hungry. There are other places in the hood that have more to offer. Even the Italian restaurant up the block«La Piccola» offers more food for either the same price or cheaper. I just can’t justify a kids portion of pasta for $ 24.00. They actually have 2 sizes!!! My husband and I were afraid for what the $ 18.00 portion looked like as the larger size we ordered was barely enough food to begin with. We might go back and try the pizza. I did see some other people’s plates of pizza. Again small, but at least it would be a little more filling.

I’m craving more food talent in the hood and this is a nice start… Sadly, the roasted pepper and sausage pasta was, at $ 23, a let down. Flavor and ingredients were solid(pasta itself was nothing special) but it was too small a portion. I’m a new dad and I need a little more value. And experience. Busters and Arco Café come to mind… I will try it again, maybe when I stop spending on diapers and have a little extra money. In the interim, I hope they keep refining and can win over the neighborhood.
