Larchmont Hotel

Perfect place for the location and price. If you don’t mind sharing a bathroom with a couple other rooms for a $ 200 savings per night compared to the next-​cheapest place in Manhattan, it’s perfect. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms are comfortable and lovely. The building is lovely and located on a quaint, quiet street in the heart of the west village, with a 5-​minute walk to Washington Square and Union Square. I’ve stayed there 3 times. Highly recommended!

We stayed here 2 nights over Valentine’s Day weekend. It was reasonably priced, staff was courteous, continental breakfast was ok. We checked in at 3 pm and headed straight up to our room. The elevator was very small but really cute. There are separate keys for the front door, hallway and your actual room so we felt very safe. The room was tiny, but that was expected. The closet was big enough for our two bags and a couple winter coats. The room came with two bathrobes and two pairs of slippers which came in great use. There was also a desk with a phone, lamp next to the door and a dresser next to the bed. Plenty of storage space. The sink and a medicine cabinet were very useful considering you share the toilet and shower with the hallway. There were two toilets and two toilets on our floor and I never ran into anyone else or had to wait. The worst part of our stay was the heater. It made noise at least 4 times throughout the night and woke us up. That’s obviously probably not an issue during warmer times of the year. Also the tv is nothing more than wall decoration; it had four channels and none of them worked.
None of the bad things were deal breakers. We could have asked to get the heater fixed but it stopped making noise by the time we got up to call the front desk. And we weren’t there to watch TV so the tv wasn’t a huge issue. Overall it was a pretty good stay in a very nice neighborhood.

I was here years ago and came back for two nights on business, pleasantly surprised with the upgrades since last I was here. European style bathrooms with new faucets and tiles. Artistically done. Always clean. But the new beddings and mattresses are the game changer. Deep sleep after a long flight. Clean well appointed rooms. I had a nice window view of the street below. Flat screen T.V. and free breakfast in a very cute breakfast room. Staff all very nice. Very private, which is what I like best. That and the location, location, location. Love it. Try the French Roast restaurant on the corner. Open till 2am.

This is a great, clean a very very affordable hotel in Manhattan!
The price and the location are great. You need to share a bathroom and I have to say both showers and toilets are kept really clean.
In this price category, it is definitely a five star place! Just be aware of what the conditions are before you book, and you won’t be disappointed.
A continental breakfast is complimentary and is a good way to start the day.
The rooms are small, but the space is designed for an optimal use. Anyways, it’s Manhattan, the rooms will always be small for the ordinary people :)
If you are looking for an AFFORDABLE place, Larchmont does not disappoint. Clean, neat, comfortable, well situated.
Honestly, my old bones would definitely search for a room with a bathroom, but when in need and on a budget, Larchmont is a good choice!

Had a great time while staying at the Larchmont, our first time in NYC! As as other reviews have stated, the hotel is older, vintage if you like. Set in a nice neighborhood on 11^th Avenue, lots of sites within walking distance, and subway easily accessible if you would like to explore further out. The hotel itself, for the price was perfect for what we wanted, a place to crash comfortably while we explored the city. Great staff, from the ladies at the front desk who answered all of our questions about the area, to the bellhop who was very helpful, and friendly. Our room was on the 4^th floor near the back, so pretty quiet, and it overlooked the surrounding home’s patios and gardens, a nice refuge after walking around the city all day. The rooms and décor are dated, but for the price, and location it’s more that acceptable. Yes, we did share two bath/​toilet with the other rooms on our hall, but the rooms and bathrooms were very clean, and I only saw two other people in passing in the hallway when out of our room. There is a washbasin in the room that made brushing teeth, washing up, etc.convenient. Plus, there was a small kitchenette next to our room, where we were able to warm up leftovers. We were able to park on street, and while we did inquire about parking, in the end we ended up walking, or taking the subway everywhere, and just left the car in the original parking spot on the street in front of the hotel, and didn’t have to spend any money on parking for the three days we were there. Overall our stay was comfortable, felt secure and was very convenient to the sites of NYC.

The Larchmont Hotel is a very nice, cheap hotel in Manhattan, New York City. It is in Greenwich Village. Walking distance to the Washington Square Park, East Village, SOHO and Flat Iron Building. It is in the middle of downtown.
It is on 11^th Street between 5^th and 6^th Avenue. The rooms are small but nice. You have TV, telephone, private wash basin, air conditioner and ceiling fan in the room. The bed was comfortable and clean. In each hall you have 2 to 3 shared toilettes and bathroom. The toilettes and bathrooms are very clean and it is no problem with sharing it with the other guests. It was always free when I needed to take a shower in the morning.
The accommodation is European style. The breakfast is included in the price and contains fresh baked goods, juice, coffee and tea. Good enough to start the day. Don´t expect too much.
The personnel is polite and professional.
There are a lot of bars, restaurants and supermarkets nearby. I can say that this hotel is a small, nice and quiet hotel for NYC.
The prices are from $ 90 to $ 129 on weekdays. On weekends, the prices might be a little bit higher. Check their website for details. This hotel is great when you want or need to save money for accommodation. And it is a very good alternative to the other expensive hotels when you need a place to sleep and feel save.

It is not only very clean, but at least on my one night it was much quieter than your typical hotel. On my floor there was only 5 rooms sharing two bathrooms, one with a tub/​shower. There is a wash basin in each room, so many of your grooming needs can be taken care of in the privacy of your own room. The rooms are very small even though I upgraded to a larger one. There is a small TV and a desk as well.
Since I was solo visiting relatives in Brooklyn, and just wanted to give them a break from me for a night this was perfect. I probably would not go this route if I had the little woman in tow, but for a night or two if solo I would not hesitate to book here again.
The front desk ladies were not the most friendly staff members, but the bellman made up for them. Lots of joking, and his comment that they were «shabby chic» is the perfect description for this unique hotel.
The location in Greenwich Village is about as prime as you could ask for. It is in a very nice tree lined residential neighborhood just a few yards from Avenue of the Americas/​6^th Avenue. Bagel and coffee shops just a short walk from the front door. Also a market with fresh produce, and a chain drug store are nearby as well.
And at an incredibly low rate of $ 146 per night, that is the real kicker.

Stayed here for two nights during the week. Hotel was great, it was clean, free wifi, quiet, comfy beds, and no bed bugs. Can’t beat the location for the price. Every room has it’s own sink, two robes, slippers, shampoo, soap, and towels. I had never stayed in a hotel with a shared bathroom but every floor has two and i never had to wait to use it. Every floor also has a small kitchen with a fridge and table. Continental breakfast was awesome! Room temperature was comfortable and has a fan, window unit, and heater.

My friend and I stayed in nyc this past summer for ⁶⁄₇ nights at the Larchmont and it was the perfect hotel for us. The location is great, right in the middle of everything. The Trader Joes/​Whole Foods is a short walk so we would go there to get snacks at night. The location is very safe and there were always a lot of people out and about in the evening/​night. We stayed a total of 6 or 7 nights and each paid 500 dollars – our total was 1,000. It was the cheapest place we could find that wasn’t a hostel. As for the hotel itself I absolutely loved it. The room is small with a double bed, sink, and closet, but definitely enough room for two people. There was a kitchen on our floor and two bathrooms-​which were both clean and perfectly fine/​always empty.
My favorite thing about this place is that we weren’t constantly bothered by staff or other people staying at the hotel. Everyone seemed to be gone during the day and by the time we got back late at night everyone was in their room. It’s like you were coming back to an apartment rather than a busy hotel. I love my privacy so this hotel was perfect for that. The staff is really friendly and show you everything/​give you a key the first day then leave you alone after that. If you need help you can go to them downstairs and they’re happy to help.
There is a complimentary breakfast in the morning, though we never seemed to wake up in time for it (I think it ends at 10am?). It’s mainly toast and pastries with coffee and juice etc. very good for a free breakfast! It’s a very cozy little place. The bed was perfectly clean and had no sight of bed bugs (like some reviews said which made us hesitant at first). The cleaning workers were also really nice. Overall it’s the perfect little hotel for people who don’t need all the extra luxuries. I recommend trying it out!

I stayed here for 4 nights in October 20 014 and it was AWESOME.
This hotel is cheap for Manhattan standards & it’s Greenwich Village location is great! The location is the true selling point. The quiet street is located in an amazing area of the Greatest City in the World. I think the idea of «Shared Bathrooms» scares lots of people off, but there are only 6 Rooms to floor or so and those rooms have two (very clean) bathrooms to share. The two showers and two toilettes per floor seemed to be plenty … And then there was a sink, mirror, hair-​dryer, bath-​robe and slippers in the bedroom.
The small basement café offers a very simple breakfast. The toast, pastry’s, cereal and coffee were a great energizing food source to start the day.
I arrived on a red-​eye flight and took the subway from JFK all the way to right down the street from the Hotel… I then was able to leave my bags at the hotel for a few hours until I was able to check in. The Hotel also watched my bag after I checked out for a few hours before I headed to the airport.

Fantastic location in Greenwich Village. Brief walk to NYU for college tour. Queen room on 2^nd floor, facing the street, was a steal for $ 165 on Columbus Day weekend. Spotlessly clean, including shared bath in hallway. Friendly, helpful staff. We enjoyed the French Roast brasserie on the corner.

A nice cozy little hotel that makes you feel like you never left home in the first place. My friend found this place for me when I came up to NY for vacation. I really like the way the rooms are set up, a small bed nice for 1 – 2 people, a desk, air conditioning for those hot summer days, a closet with 2 bath robes, a small TV, and a sink. Yes, a sink, because this hotel has the shower and toilet in the hallways for all of us to share. It would be my only complaint. but hey at least the bathrooms are always kept nice and clean and also each shower and toilet is separated with doors so if someone needs to shower while you‘re doing your business on the toilet someone can use that shower.
When my friends and I come back we‘re gonna come back here to sleep! It‘s cheap, nice, and cozy. What more can you ask for?

My husband and I decided to check out the Larchmont Hotel. We usually stay at another place out in LES, but decided to see what Larchmont was all about. The hotel itself was very cute, and it seemed as if the lobby area was clean. I like how it was very secure (you have to buzz in for the front lobby, key for the second entrance, and a key to your room). The employees at the front desk were very professional and friendly, and the bellhop was also very sweet and friendly as well, who gently guided us to our room upstairs. they have singles, doubles, queen, and family suites, with shared toilet/​shower for the floor (2 each). The room itself was very clean, and convenient with the stand-​alone sink. There is even a small desk in there if you have to set up your computer or what not. You have your own window unit for AC as well as a ceiling fan, which was very nice for the hot weekend we were there. Basic toiletries were provided (shampoo, soap, and a shower cap). I liked how there were bathrobes provided in your suite so it’s more convenient when you go in/​out of the shower. TV has cable channels with good signal. The communal bathrooms are bit of a tight squeeze, so if you’re claustrophobic, it might be an issue. The toilet paper also prohibits you in using a lot, as it only allows you to get 2 pieces at a time (the way the dispenser works). Think of a dorm-​style living; we didn’t have any issue with noises within our rooms (considering it was sold out for the weekend), but if you do step out in the hallway, you could overhear voices from the suites. They also offer free complimentary breakfast downstairs (I thought the elevator was so old-​school and so cool — a smooth ride), where they have muffins, croissants, coffee, and juice, in a small café-​like room with plenty of tables and chairs. I think the only issue was that the access to the train wasn’t as convenient as the other hotels we’ve stayed at. I’m glad we checked this place out!

Imagine if your $ 250/​night hotel provided you free tickets to a Broadway show each night or a free dinner at a nice restaurant. That’s how we feel about the Larchmont, at $ 119 during the week for our stay, we didn’t have to worry about the budget for our trip, and could spend our money enjoying all the City has to offer. The location, as many others have said, is as good as it gets, central to everything and a great spot for exploring the Village, Uptown and Downtown.
Staff was nice, we dropped our bags after getting in on a 6am red eye, then left our bags after checkout to explore the City for one last day before a late flight out.
Our room was clean (Room 3E3), and was updated in the past couple of years with some Ikea furniture. WC and shower in the hall were small, but clean and almost always available. The room and street were quiet, the bed comfortable. The provided robe and slippers made late night/​early morning trips out into the hall easier. Free morning coffee and basic pastries help stretch your budget even more.
This place has so much more character than some big chain hotel, you actually feel like you’re living in the City.
Nearby highlights:
–We enjoyed bagels at Murray’s Bagels on 6^th, not the best bagel (Russ and Daughters or Ess-​a-​bagel were the best we had) in the City but very good
–Peacefood Café on E 11^th had excellent vegetarian food (chickpea fries and raw cheesecake were amazing!)
–We didn’t try French Roast just down the street at the corner of 6^th Ave and W 11^th, but it looked like a nice place for one open 24 hours
–Analogue on W 8^th a good spot for high quality cocktails and music a couple of nights a week
–Zinc Bar was our favorite local jazz spot, with free seats at the bar and a good classy vibe, just South of Washington Square
–Taim off W 11^th St and 7^th had excellent falafels,
–Mamoun’s Falafel off W 3^rd was great for late night hole in the wall falafels
–GustOrganics was another veggie friendly spot open late on 6^th Ave

I specifically asked for a quiet room at the end of the hall when I registered. What I got was a room next to the bathroom. The slamming of the bathroom door all night was bad enough but when people started to take a shower (starting at 6am) the noise from the water pipes were so loud it sounded like dogs howling!!!
I told the front desk person about my experience and she couldn’t care less.
The money I saved did not make up for the lack of sleep I got.
It’s true — you get what you pay for. I won’t make the same mistake again with this place.

THIS HOTEL HAS BED BUGS! STAY AWAY! We were a large group and two in our group, staying in separate rooms on the fourth floor, woke up every morning covered in bites. Truly disgusting.

I came back here a month or so later for a five day stay after my initial visit. There is one thing I’m absolutely sure of. I saved a lot of money in the process.
However, with the longer visit I paid more in other ways than willing to in the future. I opted for their smallest room which with tax is around $ 105 a night. Unheard of in the city. The size of the room was not the issue. Plenty big enough for one person not really spending much time in the hotel (at 6′ 2″ I can touch both sides of the walls when standing). Lack of consistent wireless access and a room that didn’t agree with my nose proved to leave a more unpleasant memory a few weeks after the trip. I have no issue with European style bathrooms either.
What I did have a problem with was sitting in the lobby working on my laptop because there was none in the room and overhearing differing stories about the lack of wireless service. It was out almost five days running. Why advertise a service that really doesn’t work in parts of the building? One guest actually checked out days early as a result. I finally had a chat with someone that acknowledged it simply doesn’t work much of the time. So, how about this: either fix it, or tell guests the real story instead of «we can reset the router for you if you’d like.» No, that doesn’t fix the problem. I do web development for a living and I can tell them this is a fixable problem. Someone at the top simply doesn’t want to fix it.
The coffee and breakfast remained sub-​par. However, being a coffee fan I was happy to walk the 7 – 8 short blocks to Third Rail for a world class cup. The first time it was like 2 – 3 days. I thought a smaller room would work for me for five days but the cumulative effect of the lack of wireless and the smelly room proved to be a burr in my rear end a few weeks later. Think next time I’ll head back to a proven destination that’s affordable in another area of town.
My apology to the Unilocaler who wrote me and asked a few questions. I’d take that recommendation back if I had it to do over.

I’ve been debating on how I feel about The Larchmont, but I think I’ve finally made this important decision.
Four stars.
My first time to the East Coast was a little over a month ago. Jesse and I went to DC and NYC to celebrate my graduation. As everyone knows, NYC is expensive. As we searched for hotels, we started to realize our wallets were about to get raped. Fortunately, we stumbled upon The Larchmont. It’s located in Greenwich Village, in a great location, close to everything. We walked from our hotel to The Empire State Building, then took a cab to Katz Deli, then a cab back to the hotel. Then we walked from the hotel to the Financial District, The Freedom Tower, etc… back to the hotel. From the hotel, we took a short cab ride to Times Square and… well, you get the point. We saw A LOT in a short amount of time just walking from the hotel!
We paid $ 150−180/a night for a queen bed room. The room comes with a small sink & mirror area, but not a bathroom because it has SHARED bathrooms on each floor. Now, listen… I know this sounds frightening. I am a bit of a germaphobe, so I feel you. Let me tell you, this place is CLEAN. Unfortunately, Jesse and I didn’t discover the 2^nd, larger bathroom on our floor until the very end of our stay, we still had zero problems with the whole shared bathroom thing. They were clean and comfortable. There was never a time where I had to wait to use it. Every time I needed it, it was available. Same for Jesse. If that is your main concern, feel free to get over it and book your room now.
The AC was continuously pumping, so we always had a perfectly cool room in the midst of the humid, sticky heat! They provide slippers and robes, which are fun and comfy. The bed wasn’t super comfy, but it wasn’t bad and you’re getting a freaking DEAL here, people! Overall, yes, I would stay here again. It was a great location and it was comfy. A great price for a great place to stay. Thanks for helping me save some pennies!
PS– They recommend parking in a garage a few blocks over… your wallet will DEFINITELY be raped. It’s worth it to have a secure place to keep your car though.

I love the Larchmont for many reasons. Mainly, the great location and low prices
The staff are friendly and welcoming and they are super willing to accommodate requests such as holding your bags if you are going to explore the city after check out. The prices are low for the great location. They are located right down the street from all of the great restaurants, coffee shops, and stores in the village.
Now, there is a reason that the rates are rather low. This is a European style hotel, such as a pension or other low cost establishment. Most of the bathrooms are shared, although you do have a sink of your own in your room. I would bring flip flops to shower in if you are a germaphobe. The bathrooms and showers are usually pretty clean, but I know the idea of having to walk down the hall to pee can irk some people. The rooms are pretty bland, kind of like what you would get at a motel. The view isn’t bad, if you get one. The beds aren’t the most comfy, but they are an inexpensive place to rest your head for the night.
The Larchmont is a no-​frills hotel in the village. It may have its downsides but it also has it’s charm. I will continue to be a patron of the Larchmont because I know I can count on a friendly face when I check in and not break the bank staying in one of my favorite neighborhoods of NYC

This little budget hotel packs quite a punch. It is basic and old but very clean and in a fabulous location where you’d pay much more anywhere else.
The staff are helpful too.
All the rooms are equipped with sink, blow drier, AC/​heat, robe, and slippers. You do need to walk down the hall to the shared toilets and showers. They are kept very clean. There is also kitchen on each floor if you prefer to prepare your own food.
Free breakfast too makes this a great value.
