The food and service are so good here. I have been here about 4 – 5 times and have tried the lamb, seafood bouillabaisse, duck breast and the restaurants signature dish of duck with mirabelle cherries. The décor is dated and the restaurant is a old school UWS gem. Everyone I have taken here has raved about the food! If you’re looking for a cool, hip dinner spot this is not it. But if you’re in the mood for delicious, classic French dining with no fuss thou won’t be disappointed.

This is a small and completely unpretentious neighborhood French restaurant on the upper east side. Not touristy at all, this is just a family-run restaurant that takes a lot of pride in their food and service. We came here at the suggestion of some locals and had a great meal. The prix fixe menu was $ 60 and had some great choices, and included a glass of wine. You can’t do any better than that for quality food and service in Manhattan. We definitely hope to be back again next time we are in NYC.

This is already my go to French spot in NYC. I love it. It has a cozy feel and the dishes are classic delicious and rather decadent cuisine that always leave me dreading the walk home. The chicken livers are absolutely the best I’ve ever had. I usually go with the monk fish but everything is great including the ever looming deserts… the staff is warm and keeps patrons coming back. Look out — its packed with regulars.

This French bistro is a throwback. It isn’t the least bit trendy. The young end of the customer base seems to be in their 60s. It seems to have been in this place forever. It feels family run. The people are friendly in a genuine way. The service is very attentive. The food hearty and proper French.

Had a 7:45pm dinner reservation here after looking at their interesting menu and going through a few of the reviews on Unilocal.Sounded like a nice cozy/no-frills place for an anniversary dinner. Yes their main clientele are at least twice my age, but that’s a good thing. It means that this place is non-pretentious, classical and has probably withstood the test of time. The service was wonderful, the waitresses were very attentive and friendly. Started with the Chicken Livers, Onion Soup and the Escargots. That sauce paired with the chicken livers just hit the spot. It really did taste like home cooking which is what this restaurant is aiming for. The Onion Soup had good burnt cheese on top. It wasn’t salty like how most places make it. The escargots paired with the table bread was delish. For the main course we had the venison special and the sweetbread. The venison was perfected cooked. Constantly medium rare throughout each cut! I’m definitely coming back to try the other menu items(especially the duck)!

La Mirabelle is a jewel of a restaurant. The ambiance is simple and lovely. It creates a comfortable atmosphere while still making you feel as if you are in the French countryside. The food is imaginative, delicious and reasonable. Our server was«Petite Danielle» a charming powerhouse. She never let our water glasses or bread basket be less than filled. We only had to look up for her to come to our table. I can’t express enough what a deliciously charming evening we had.

Absolutely lovely! Happily not a place for the cellphone, selfie-taking crowd! Excellent service and food. You feel like you’re dining in someone’s home.

My favorite French restaurant and oh so reasonably priced! Rack of lamb, duck, soft shell crabs, and Dover sole are a must try!!! Extensive wine list… Generous pours on house wines! Finish off with a crêpe Suzette and a digestif while listening to the French waitress singing La Vie en Rose! Bön appetit!!!

We came here last night for our anniversary and it was great! Very old school NYC and we were definitely the youngest people in there but that’s ok :) We are old souls! The décor is very French and quaint with beautiful paintings on the walls. The service was great from the matire d’ to the servers and runners. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The food was also excellent and we had a delicious bottle of wine with our meal. In fact it’s our favorite wine and they had it quite reasonably priced too! We had the duck and the fish entrees along with two salads which were great! And of course dessert! We will definitely be back! Thanks for being part of our anniversary!

Went here with 6 others for a special occasional, excellent French food though some dishes were definitely better than others. Wonderful service, the older French woman was very good. Drinks: French cider 11 dollars for a very full glass. Excellent, recommended, a bit sweeter than others I have had(a Doux perhaps.) I rarely add a part of the review for a drink but this cider deserves a special mention, 4.2 There was otherwise a 2010 e Guigal Cote Du Rhone(double price) and a 20111 Hugel & Fils Riesling(a bit more than double at 44.) Wine prices are high but this is a fancier French place on the Upper West. The wines themselves were delicious, the white being better. Started with some free bread, good crunch to them, good selection. Appetizers: I had a special which was a mini Quail stuffed with cheese topped with bacon($ 12?). The dish was fine. It reminded me of the devils on horseback dish from other places but more savory and more elegant. Large bones made it a bit difficult to eat also. The salad with it was good as well with a good dressing. 3.4 I also tried their famous Coquilles St. Jacques(14 or 12 $?) from another which was delicious, preferred it. 4.3 I also tried some of the Herbed Goat Cheese(11?$) salad which was solid. 3.7 Other people got French Onion soup and a mélange of other dishes. Mains: Special: King Crab with herb butter: 38 $ This was probably one of my favorite seafood dishes I have had in recent memories. Ridiculously sweet crabs cooked to a point where a knife was barely necessary. There were three of them for the price(so each were around 13 not including the vegetables, rather huge portion and excellent. Good sauce. 4.7 3 people had the famous duck. The plum sauce was excellent and the duck was on point. 4.1 One person had a fish dish, I believe monk-fish. I remember it being well cooked but not much else. I won’t review. 2 people had the two pasta dishes. Neither of them were that good. One in particular looked more like a dish you’d expect at a small Italian joint. But at 16 and 18 dollars, there wasn’t much to complain about. The pesto pasta was better looking and more consumed of the two. 3.1÷3.3 Desserts: Perre sainte helene crêpe(me): 10.50 $?) Solid if not slightly boring, good crêpe though, I think a darker chocolate sauce would be better. 3.8 Strawberry/raspberry/mango tart: Excellent, excellent crust, tasted homemade. 4.3 Chocolate lava cake, solid, good texture, but nothing out of the ordinary: 3.7 Coupe aux marrones was excellent, very big portion, 4.4 Totals and overall thoughts: Food here was excellent if not a bit pricy. The seafood dishes in general were much better outside of the duck. 42.9÷55 7.8÷10=3.9÷5

Really lovely little french restaurant on 86th. My husband and I went for our anniversary and it was the perfect spot. The restaurant is intimate and quiet. the food is simple but delicious.(the portions are very big though) My husband had the duck which came with plum sauce. It was sweet and savory and delicious. I had a special fish entrée. Came with potatoes and really savory saffron sauce. The bread basket is really good too… I love French bread and butter! The crème brûlée is one of the best. It is not overly sweet but really creamy. We left very full and very happy! The wait staff is also very friendly and accommodating.

I definitely don’t understand the reviews here. The food never escaped merely mediocre. Every wine was weak and and the entrees were only memorable in a negative way. Save your time and money and visit any of the other excellent options within a six block radius.

One step inside La Mirabelle tells you that despite being on the UWS, you’re far from the dimly lit swank of Manhattan dining rooms. Instead, ruffled draperies, beige walls and a hodgepodge of paintings and floral arrangements seem fit for Grandma’s house. But my Grandma was the best cook I knew. And the food at La Mirabelle is good. Really good. The menu is French. Not delicately-plated-small-portioned French like many trendy restaurants claim. This is butter-laden-full-plate French. Take the Bouillabaisse, which consists of copious amounts of seafood swimming in a rich broth. I was put off at first when the waitress tied a bib around my neck(it didn’t help that even in my 20s, I was probably half the age of the next oldest diner). But realistically, that fish stew probably required a bib. And I won’t say no to delicious, hearty, messy, wonderful French comfort food — bib or not.

Authentic French cuisine and atmosphere. Small and personal is the setting of this restaurant. Coat check and clean bathrooms. Greeted and seated quickly. Busy place so make a ressie, even for just 2. Apps– French onion soup and my ceaser salad with fishes. Pepercorn steak was very peppery, had to wipe some off but cooked as desired and he had the duck which was fatty as duck is, but delish! The crème brûlée was bland– flat. Next time I’ll try the fresh fruit tart our server was attentive and could sing! See pics! I’ll be back.

Very nice family owned and loved restaurant. It seems like its from the different time, a hidden gem of old Europe. Food was excellent. Non pretensions just consistent w solid quality. It amazed me to find out that all employees are almost related and everyone has been around the restaurant forever. That added up to the quality of the atmosphere. Roasted Duckling and Beef Wellington were superb. Oysters were good and actually a good deal. The wine that we had and loved was red Bordeaux– Graves Château de Mille Agnes($ 48)

Had a fantastic dinner at La Mirabelle. Very cozy and inviting space with a very friendly staff. My wife and I started with escargots and Coquilles St Jacques. The escargots were quite good and the Coquilles St Jacques was fantastic. For our main course my wife calf liver and I had sweetbreads. Both were delicious. For dessert we had crème brûlée and chocolate lava cake. Both were great. Just a wonderful evening with great food and a lovely place run by very nice people.
