The restaurant is a really small area with a counter on the ground floor with minimal seating and an upstairs area with more seating. The atmosphere is pretty cozy. You order at the counter, and in about 5 minutes you get your order. The reason why I gave 3 stars is because I’m pretty sure these sandwiches aren’t freshly made, which is a huge turn off for me for a sandwich shop. Also, the price is pretty high for an not-fresh sandwich(~$ 10). [FOOD] 7. Mr. Joaquin AKA The Cuban: One of my favorite types of sandwiches. The roast pork was pretty spot on; it was almost like bacon. The cheese was pretty subtle. The pickles were okay. The bread crust was a bit hard to chew. I ended up just not eating some of it. Portion was pretty good. The sandwich was good, but it’s definitely not Croque-Monsieur style, which is disappointing. [OVERALL] A pretty average place. Not a bad place to grab a quick bite, but I wasn’t very impressed.

I had the opportunity to go back and try one of their sandwiches. I’m not sure how to pronounce«croquet» so I just asked for a «Mr Henry.» I work downtown in FiDi and perhaps the next best thing to the baconey smell of the ham is that the sandwich remained warm and tasty by the time I got to it. I’m looking to try more from their menu.

An adorable little spot I randomly passed by a few weeks ago and couldn’t wait to check out. I decided on the Mr. Eduardo(bresaola, bechamel, mozzarella and truffle oil), which was wonderful — sufficiently salty and gooey(2 of my favorite food-related adjectives). My friend got the Mr. Gore(portobello mushroom, sundried tomatoes, pine nuts and goat cheese), which she also thoroughly enjoyed. In terms of ambiance, the upstairs space feels like a cozy little nook that’s perfect for spending an afternoon chatting with a friend, reading a good book, or catching up on some work. On my follow-up visits, I’m looking forward to trying out the Mr. Antonin(roasted turkey, sage, cranberry sauce and provolone) and the Mr. Rene(Laughing Cow cheese, speculoos and strawberry jam). I’m very much sold on La Maison du Croque Monsieur and can’t wait to go back.

I gave this place a try for lunch one day. I came around a quarter after one and was happy to find that there was seating available. Probably seats around 20 people or so. A lot of people look like they were hanging out here for a while using the free Wi-Fi. I had the tuna melt sandwich with a side of pickles which made it a dollar extra. Interestingly enough the house that it came with one definitely your typical Vlasic pickles cut up and put into a container. If you are going to serve a side to gourmet sandwiches I would think it would’ve been something little bit more interesting that were cured in-house or something. Either way I quite enjoy Vladic pickles so it wasn’t the worst thing. My tuna melts was really fresh tasting, still very hot and cheese melted really well. Some of the ends were a little burnt for my liking but otherwise hi found it pretty satisfying and a decent size

If you have any dietary restrictions this is not the place for you. Came here for a gals brunch and left. They sell grilled cheese with vegetables as well as sandwiches with meat and cheese but will refuse to sell you a salmon, vegetable and cheese sandwich. I was told my request couldn’t be accommodated because everything is pre-made, not fresh. When I asked about combining ingredients from two different sandwiches, I was told no because all items are made in advance. Staff was unhelpful with my request and made it clear that their«salad» contains only mixed greens without any additional vegetables. Very embarrassing as I was visiting with a group and had to eat someplace else before rejoining the group.

Amazing brunch spot! I need to work out more so I can justify eating here more often. It’s definitely a glorified grilled cheese spot, but who can hate that? They have mimosas for 5 or 6 dollars(can’t remember) and the sandwiches can feed two. Love it.

As a Starbucks dessert-for-coffee kind of girl, I have enjoyed two Biscoff lattes in the last two days. I’m sure it is extremely unhealthy, and damaging not only my waistline but my wallet at $ 4.50 for a large, but in this neck of the woods it is basically standard. I had the sausage breakfast croque yesterday, and wasn’t a big fan of the sausage meat. Probably wouldn’t get it again, but it was fine for what I needed it to be.

A great spot for lunch or a pastry stop. There are a lot of unique sandwich offerings besides the classic croque. I had the Croque Antonin(turkey, cranberry, provolone, and sage) with a side salad. The sandwich was really good but the side salad was disappointing. It was literally just mesclun greens and olive oil. There were no toppings in the salad. The shop also sells doughnuts from«Dough.» So if you’re looking for a sweet treat at the end of the meal, there are plenty of good options too. A fair amount of seating inside as well as there are 2 levels of seating.

What an adorable spot with great food. So glad i found this place. It has plenty of seats and delicious sandwiches! I had the Mr. Antonin with a iced chai– they were both amazing! It was getting a bit crowded but the food came out quick and i still managed to grab a seat. I will definitely go again and try other things in the menu. They also have combos.

They make a decent sandwich but they’re way too expensive for what you get… The place is charming enough but it’s dirty and full of students which is fine if that’s your thing.

3 stars for food, 5 stars for super cute interior! This is my new favorite study space. You can order your food then take it upstairs, where they have tables and a window with a view of the street. They have fall decorations and it’s nice and quiet. I ordered the breakfast bacon, egg, and cheese(served from 7 – 11 a.m.) and it was good but nothing special. The reviews of it being a glorified grilled cheese are pretty accurate, you could probably make this at home if you wanted to.

Unilocal steered me very wrong. This place is a glorified grilled cheese establishment not a croque sandwich place. We ordered two sandwiches a croque Monsieur and a croque Madame. Croque Monsieur was two pieces of toast with raclette and ham presses in a George Forman type grill. This was a normal sandwich I could easily make at home. Croque Madame with the restaurants artisanal cheese blend was frozen. The fried egg was well done(don’t expect oozing egg), cheese was still shredded so they did not grill long enough. At almost 9 dollars a sandwich go anywhere else. Ordered a coffee which tasted burnt. My guess is the left the coffee too long. Either way overall bad food and coffee.

This place will be heaven for Francophiles and the literary set, no matter their culinary inclinations. We picked the spot for a thematic bite to eat before seeing Les Miz that was easier on the wallet than the theater district offerings.(And after I couldn’t convince my companion that a «ramen» dinner in honor of seeing«Ramin» Karimloo onstage was the right plan.) For our thematic desires, this place was perfect. The homey, wood-paneled, 2 story café felt like we could’ve been right along side Marius and his fellow student rebels in the ABC Café. The food was delish too. I got the basic«Mr. Henry» with the house blend of cheeses and was a very happy camper. Can’t wait to return to sample the sweet treats like their mousse and Speculoos latte — all of which sounded amazing. A fun lunch or dinner spot that has atmosphere but doesn’t break the bank. Or a great coffee shop hangout!

After reading the glowing reviews on Unilocal for La Maison du Croque Monsieur, I was excited to grab lunch here. The interior is super cute – it is inside of an old house and had neat drawers that are built into the wall by the area where you order that adds charm. I ordered a Croque Mme. Anais. These croques are not done in the traditional manner, but rather are like glorified grilled cheese sandwiches with all of the toppings on the inside. My sandwich was just okay and didn’t really impress me. The bread was pretty hard – the cheese was tasty. Overall, it wasn’t a place I would return to.

Fell in love with this quaint French café. I came to Croque Monsieur to see the Croque Madame! Black and white is the theme here with cutesy high top tables on the lower level and more seating upstairs. I waited only a few minutes before placing my order and had enough time to gather my thoughts as I spoke to myself«jambon avec oeuf ou non?» So yes I decided to go with the Madame as I love eggs. Then the decision was tough choosing which cheese I wanted to create this Croque. Choices include gruyère gourmino from Switzerland, tickler cheddar from UK, french raclette from Savoie, France, or french comté from the Comté region of Eastern France. My dining companion and I both settled happily for the Madame Croque with comté. Strong but sweet, the most perfect combination of cheese and Parisienne ham was then created and held between thick sliced panini-like bread. Delicious? Yes! Mouthwatering? Yes! Savory and satisfying? Oh yes. The only thing I’d change about the Madame is the egg. I’d much prefer the egg to have a runny yolk so that the bread could be more flavorful, s’il vous plait! The panini-like bread was tougher and too crisp at the edges for my taste. Other than that, it would’ve been spectacular. We also decided on large iced coffees(only $ 3 each) from a wide range of hot and cold drinks. It was a great coffee to wash down the Madame, especially in almost 90 degree weather. This is definitely a cute spot for croque lovers and can see it as a student friendly place with multiple tables and outlets upstairs. I saw a lot of people getting their croques to go too. Since I got there before 12 noon on a weekday for lunch, it wasn’t too crowded. It’s also cool because the Maison claims an interesting story: I wish I could come more often to try all of the croques! One day I will!

Grilled cheese in French I guess. Probably right on point for pricing in this neighborhood. A little steep for us… but just had to try it out. Lots of sitting space upstairs. On our day… we were sort of doing our own little impromptu food tour so we just got one for my wife and I to split and one for my daughter. The strange thing, was my daughter didn’t even finish her MRGONZALO. I had to pick something that my wife and I could split, so couldn’t go as adventurous as I normally would, so we got the Croque Mr. Henry. I think it was properly cooked. Tasty not too cheesy. And the bread was hard and crunchy but not too dry. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back here to try something else.

My inner sweet tooth and carbivore are instantly satiated with almond croissants here. So amazing. Crispy and flaky on the outside(reminds me of a palmier) while wonderfully soft and fluffy in the inside, these are such a treat. There’s also extra almond flavoring in the center that drives me crazy — it’s so good.

Sometimes you just need a fancy sandwich that’s been Panini Pressed. If you’re not a Pork Lover, I’d stay away, though they did have a veggie sandwich, the majority had ham in them. The sandwich I got only made me want to try the rest of the fancy sandwiches they had on the menu. Croque is good for a fast sandwich to go, or perfect if you want to sit upstairs with a glass of champagne for brunch.

Though I’m a huge grilled cheese fan, I usually find Croque Monseiurs to be too rich for my taste. While some people would argue that they’re the same thing, I disagree. Croques, first of all, are usually eaten at brunch, and they usually include a salty piece of ham drowning in some very rich Bechamel. I was pleased to find, though, that La Maison has found the wonderful balance between these two similar sandwiches. Though they have the classic variety for you Croque fans, they also have a wide variety of other combos that sounded more appealing to me. They even have a dessert croque with banana, Nutella, and marscapone! I went with Mr. Otto, which included cheddar, pickled pear, and a delectable roast pork. It was very tasty! The portion isn’t huge but it’s a pretty heavy sandwich so you still feel full at the end of it. I went with the combo, where you can choose a side to go along with your sandwich. I selected the beet salad which wasn’t too impressive. Next time I’ll stick with just the sandwich. The space is small but great for a lunch break. There’s a quiet upstairs area where you can have a relaxing meal by yourself with a book or catch up with a coworker. It’s cozy inside like your French grandma’s country cottage. In an area filled with overpriced and mediocre lunch options, I found this one to be a wonderful change of pace. Definitely not something I can eat every day, but a tasty treat once in a while!
