Curmudgeonly old guy who charges too much and doesn’t know the meaning of customer service. I know that he was planning to retire, so maybe the fact that he had to put that on hold is contributing to his general malaise. I asked him to turn the collar on a button-down shirt, which he did, not noticing that some numbers were indelibly stamped on the underside, which are now visible, rendering the shirt unusable. He didn’t think to call me or hold off, and when I complained, he copped an attitude. He dropped the price from a crazy 20.00 to 10 but didn’t even iron the shirt! Hasta la vista.

Prompt, courteous, carefully done work. So far my partner and I have used Kegan’s only for relatively simple work — taking in waists, hemming, sewing pockets shut — but in any case we have been pleased with the fit and service.

I found Kegan ages ago when I lived on the same block. He’s a very fine craftsman, who can make your off-the-rack find from Barneys warehouse look like it was custom-made for you. I live across town now, but Kegan’s still my go-to tailor.
