***** This is a great small deli and more. They have a lot of good groceries with good prices. They also have cooked food that looks great. I am fairly new to this place and so what I’ve tried or received so far is some cheeses, cereals, some basic groceries and some bottled Pepsi and Snapple teas. The prepared food looks great & tastes great too… I will try some more of it especially some things that look worthwhile. It also looks like it has a new name on the sign outside of the place. I like the inside of the store a lot. It also has a small café area! What I’ve had so far there has been awesome! *****

After taking a redeye from California and getting to the hotel around noon on a terrible snowy and rainy day, I just wanted a good city deli. The concierge recommend Subway, and was serious, which pissed me off. Luckily, two blocks away, I stumbled upon Joe’s. When you walk in, the selection is just amazing. Exactly what I was looking for. An incredibly full Chinese buffet, a huge deli cabinet with a ton of meats, cheases, salads, and prepared foods. Plus, a drink selection to rival most grocery stores! The employees were nice and the patrons seemed like regulars which was comforting. I got a chipotle smoked turkey sandwich which turned out to be one of the greatest things I ate that entire weekend. Only subtracting a star for the awkward non-English speaker that first tried to take my order for a good five minutes before someone else came over to help… that was weird.

Ive NEVER seen a food establishment like this… EVER! Notice how I carefully worded that phrase with«food establishment» instead of «restaurant». It’s really hard to describe if you’ve never been… Joe’s Gourmet is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. I’m fairly certain Churchill said that after stopping by here for a quick lunch. This place is awesome and weird at the same time. Joe’s gourmet is part deli, part buffet, part Korean restaurant, part salad bar, part convenience store. Im not joking. Oh, and they have sushi too! They have sandwiches, paninis, wraps, and your typical deli fair. Not feeling like a sammie? You can grab a to go box and hit their buffet. Yes, I said buffet. It’s pay by the pound with enough choices to rival a Las Vegas off-the-strip dying casino’s buffet, so not huuuge, but not small. Oh, does this not do it for you? Then you can get a salad or your choice of prepared salads. Still not it for you? then get a fresh juice(yes, because of course you gotta have a juice bar if you’re gonna have all this other stuff!). Im just perplexed. You can get a sandwich, a bowl of bulgogi or bimimbap, sushi, buffet food, a panini, a salad, a soup, and anything under the kitchen sink. Seriously, if youre ever in the financial district and craving some good quick lunch, look no further! I was surprised to see the 3 star review. Granted, Ive only been here once, but the service was ok, and the food was palatable and affordable. No complaints, here! I decided to give them 4 stars based on the selection and big sandwiches. You cant go wrong!

I had a not terribly good chicken pesto sandwich here. But it was at 4am and i appreciate having the option! I mean really unless you get sick, joints open this late get a minimum of 3 stars for feeding your drunk self.

You would think if you were to order $ 50 worth of «stuff»(a large order, in comparison with what I assume is the average sample) that the priority order — a panini, to give an example — would be a priority item(considering the rest was right out of the fridge.) I waited 20 minutes before double-checking, to find out that in fact that nobody was making the panini(without apology or any sort of strategic plan B). I cancelled the order but was slightly stupefied, considering(again) that I was their only customer. Overall, the stuff they sell is about the same as what you’d get anywhere else. But at least for dinner, better factor in a long wait for any relatively simple sandwich orders. Also, kind of dirty.

I’ve walked by this place dozens of times because I usually go next door for gyros. Had two last night, so it was time for something else. Anyway, the buffet does not look appetizing and the customers in the back that eat from it look pretty seedy. I’ve walked in a number of times, looked at the buffet and the customers, and walked out. I would stay away from it. I did purchase a Robert II Wrap that has Roast Beef, Roasted Turkey, Romaine Lettuce, Tomatoes, onions & horseradish for $ 5.95. They didn’t skimp on the meat, and the wrap was pretty good for the money. My only complaint with the wrap was the runny horseradish sauce. I couldn’t taste the horseradish until the end because it all ran to the bottom. Then it was too hot. They have a very wide selection of Sandwiches, wraps, panini’s and burgers, so you don’t have to do the buffet. Do so at your own peril.

The deli selection is pretty huge, with some hit and miss items. They’re super friendly and helpful there, which is great, but I wish their beer wasn’t so pricey.

I can’t believe this place gets low ratings. I work right next door and this is the cheapest place to get a hefty lunch. Buffet by the pound at a flat rate. I get the small one at $ 6.50 and can’t manage to finish it in one meal. Did I mention that it’s not just cheap and it’s got some good dishes too? Beef brisket is pretty good. The chicken breast in lemon sauce is my favorite and the stir fry pork and mushroom is greasy but yummy. So yeah, why not stop by, pick up some lunch and walk to battery park for some al fresco dining.

This deli beats the others on the block because of the fresh cut veggies(Subway style) they have to add to your sandwich — no tired lettuce, tomato and spanish onion if you’re lucky experience here! They also make a delish iced coffee(and have large cups!) and the guys are nice. Most are proud of the food they make and work to make my sandwich exactly the way I want it. They have a good selection of juices to go with all the traditional deli sodas, and a decent breakfast pastry selection as well.

The place where I worked over the summer is located right near this deli so it was quite convenient to go there to grab lunch. If my review were based on my first couple of visits to Joe’s(no gourmet here) deli, I would have given this place 2-stars or maybe even 3-stars for its decently-priced and decently-appetizing food. However, my final experience at this establishment certainly changed my view of this deli. On the particular day in question, i hadn’t eaten all day so I was looking forward to having a chicken parm sandwich. I had ordered the sandwich before at Joe’s deli, and I thought it was actually pretty good. So, without any grounds for reticence, I ordered the chicken parm, paid for it, and off I went back to the building I worked in near Joe’s deli. Once I sat down at my desk, I bit into the sandwich, and i heard a loud crack sound. I then began to feel a sharp pang in the right side of my mouth. Before I swallowed my food, I spit it out and noticed that THEREWAS A GLASSSHARDINMYSANDWICH! And, upon further investigation, I found a couple of small glass shards. Not surprisingly, never before had i ever had a similar experience in my entire life. I was quite angry and proceeded to walk back to the deli and tell the manager what had transpired. While he ended up reimbursing me for the cost of my dentist visit(don’t fret, I was fine), negligently allowing glass shards to be placed along with one’s food is totally unacceptable. If one decides to go to Joe’s deli, I strongly suggest you make sure that you check your food first before taking a bite. The manager of this deli admitted to me that this wasn’t the first time a customer informed him about such an incident. Eat here at your own peril!
