Blundered in from far away after 9pm… was hungry, tired and just wanted anything half decent. Decided to try Irish Pub. The atmosphere upon walking in was of a friendly, lively bar/restaurant. We were seated promptly. Our table ordered fish and chips, the house bacon burger and drinks. The draft hard cider was crisp and not too sweet. The Luck of the Irish house cocktail was great, as long as one likes the flavor of apple pucker. The burger was cooked to order and very tasty, with a thick plank of dill pickle included. The fish and chips were perfection, with a great beer batter and thick cut pieces of flaky white fish. The fries were above average. We liked it enough to return the next night, after a long tiring day. This time we tried the Shepherd’s pie and the house appetizer platter. The Shepherd’s pie was delicious; a savory rich hamburger and vegetable mix topped with perfectly crisp piped mashed potatoes. The sampler platter was hit and miss. The chicken wings and tenders, bacon skins and pigs in blanket were average, but the fried mozzarella was weird and chewy. The dipping sauces were just okay… Two mustard mixes, and I quit sampling when I encountered fake maple syrup. We were presently surprised to find above average food for reasonable prices very close to our hotel. I know there is better fare to be had in NYC, but a tired person can get a meal here without being ripped off. We had one server for our table of seven, and felt like we had to prod her a little too much… no water was offered, we had to ask for small plates when appetizers were for the whole table to share, lots of little things. The server the first night was excellent and very responsive… And to be fair, it was busy, and the day before St Patrick’s Day. It’s a lovely place and can get a bit loud… We had fun!
