STAYAWAY. We had weeks without having heat or hot water when we lived here and no discount on rent. Since we moved out six months ago, we have been fighting Igor to get our security deposit back. It’s not looking likely — it’s always a big fight with Igor to get anything done.

Echoing all the previous comments — take our advice and stay the hell away. So much shadiness. I just moved out and he definitely didn’t turn off the autowithdrawl on my account. If for whatever reason you do decide to move here, be sure to pay by check only. I seriously regret giving him that access. And I will be sure to stay on top of the security deposit — I am creating a paper trail to document my requests and I suggest everyone else on this thread follow suit. Feel free to pm me if you want to join forces.

Please avoid this man and his buildings. I am a real estate agent and placed tenants in one of his buildings. They set up direct deposit, and he continues to take out the monthly rent from a tenants account for over 6 months after they moved out and he has not returned their security deposit. He is exactly the type of slumlord scum bag that gives landlords a bad name in NYC.

I lived in the building at 542 E 11th Street for 3 years. I didn’t have many issues until Igor fired the management company that handled everything. Then he lost two of my rent checks(after asking that we mail them to some address in Florida) and I had to pay a check cancellation fee to my bank and reissue them. The boiler also broke for a week and there was no heat or hot water during that time. I moved out in May and still haven’t received my security deposit back. I’ve emailed, texted and called many times over the past several months and have received no answer.

Please stay away if you are thinking of moving into one of Igor Ger’s apartments(I believe he has a few in the East Village — I lived in 542 E 11th St). Igor and his mother Janet Ger run the buildings as slum lords. The turnover rate in my building was extremely high and it’s because of the way they manage the building. The building had several issues over the years(I lived there for 4, unfortunately) and was very very very poorly taken care of. Cockroaches and mice galore! I also had to complain to 311 more than 10 times about not having heat or hot water(for days at a time). I also moved out in January of 2015 and have yet to receive a cent of my security deposit. I keep getting the runaround. Beware!
