Ideal Market Place

IDEAL SUPERMARKET is selling ITALIAN GOURMET COOKIES at &4.99 a plastic enclosed Box. THIS IS MUCH TOO HIGH.
Every other Supermarket sells theses Gourmet Cookies for $ 3.99 or less.
Ideal Marketplace is a great & fair place to shop, but the prices of their ITALIAN GOURMET COOKIES is way out of line.

The health department would have a field day with what I experienced yesterday. I stopped by to get some turkey breast from the deli department. After I was handed my package I realized not 18″ from the slicing machine was a sink. At the sink was a guy running the tap from the faucet and he held, under the faucet, a raw chicken he was gutting. Raw chicken juice/​tap water adjacent to the deli counter seem to be the perfect storm for a nice case of salmonella.

Having shopped here a few times now, since moving to the neighborhood, I just have to note what a lousy supermarket this is. It’s notable how little the management cares, at Ideal. Ideal has a huge space, so I expected a pretty impressive selection, and they do actually have a variety of basic and higher-​end groceries. But prices are high, produce is poor, a huge number of products are missing price tags, and checkout staff is sour and slow at best. We’ll overlook the gloomy low lighting and inefficient layout. The most salient of these features are the poor produce, (witnessed a fellow shopper utter, «yuck!» at some rotted lettuce yesterday), and the LACK of price stickers which drives me nuts. This is the case on produce and a variety of ordinary products. Things are disorganized, too; yesterday, I picked up a bag of Dole frozen strawberries priced $ 4.99, only to move to the other end of the refrigerated section and see the off-​brand packges of frozen berries a bit cheaper. I would simply say that if you’re in a «borderline» neighborhood, you should look into whatever other supermarket is there for you!

Ok so the deli guys make great sandwiches and have outstanding personalities and they even make the sandwiches with love but shit they are sooooooo Effin SLOW!!!

Listen, this place is not Whole Foods or even Trader Joe’s, which I frequent as well, but if you want to feel like you’ve just gone on vacation in some third world country without the expense, a long flight and without having to go through airport security and customs, then this store is for you!
Just stick to their weekly flyer specials and you’ll get the best prices in Chelsea. For example, this week Perdu chicken quarters are .49c a lb. Not too bad, huh? Their prices are much less expensive then the 9^th avenue Gristede’s and Ideal is not half as dirty as Gristede’s.
I’ve been shopping here for 4 years. I like to cook and I usually find what I need at the Ideal Market. The staff is not too bad either. There are a couple of people who could fine tune their people skills, but for the most, the staff is nice. Oh, and they don’t always honor their advertised sale prices. They simply say, «That’s a misprint.»
So use your imagination and take a holiday to the Ideal market! It’s like going to a third world country! Bön voyage!

Worst super market I’ve been to. Staff is useless. Cashiers yell at elderly customers. I was watching another cashier scream at this elderly woman for no reason when my cash or accepted my payment for me and added 20 $ to my bill. Absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. Could have respectfully asked instead of illegally accepting an incorrect payment for me. Will now avoid this place at all costs.

1^st time I went to the deli sandwiches were 6.99, 2 months later they were 7.99, a month later the same exact sandwich is 8.99
Nice way to rip-​off your customers. By the way they don’t wash their vegetables before cutting them up

Since I intended to make red curry with beef and ramen noodles with beef this week, I wanted water chestnuts. I can’t find them in the small Asian markets in my neighborhood so I thought this place might have it. After going aisle by aisle myself, I asked for help. One employee directed me to the wrong aisle. I then asked another employee and she directed me to the aisle with the Asian foods I found them picked up two cans and went to the original cashier who I asked the question first. He rang up my purchases and said he hoped I found everything I wanted. I said yes I did.

I wouldn’t call it «Ideal», but it is definitely above average for a NYC grocery store. The produce is fresh and the prices are reasonable. Selection is also pretty good for basic food items. I would usually combine shopping here with Whole Foods. The location is hidden, which was great during the blizzard because they had stocked shelves when most grocery stores were sold out.

Used to come here all the time, probably one of the best markets on the west side. They have everything and best of it its fresh, unfortunately its a little pricey but after all its manhattan. There’s usually no lines at the registers which is awesome and weekly sales is pretty sweet!

I discovered this place on my way to High Line. I work in the area and was looking for a local grocery that had my typical discounts I get in Queens. $ yogurt deals, cheap beverages, healthy snacks. Great produce there. Best mangos and apples I’ve seen anywhere nearby. Is it whole foods or trader joe’s, no. But then again they are higher priced.
As the other reviewer noted it does have a lighting, upkeep issue. You may not even notice them.

This is one of the only grocery stores on the West side Chelsea area in Manhattan, past 7^th Avenue.
Yes, it’d be nice to have a Fairway, a Whole Foods, or a Trader Joe’s closer to the Highline, on 8^th or 9^th Avenue, but there aren’t… So, I have been resorting to Ideal Marketplace for my last minute shopping needs. It’s a relatively big supermarket with produce, snacks, cleaning supplies, and even a deli section right by the entrance, but it’s not as big as the more well-​known supermarkets scattered throughout Manhattan. It’s nearly as clean either. The supermarket is also dark and dimly lit, ironically, which creates, for me at least, an unpleasant experience. And employees are visibly unhappy.
Prices are at a market high, so I’d stay away from completing your weekly haul of groceries at Ideal Marketplace.
But hey, at least I have a supermarket to go to during dire times. At least I don’t have to depend on corner delis and bodegas for my milk and onions.
