Happy Taco Burrito

Looks like Happy Taco Burrito is gone for good :(
They’ve been closed for over a month now and the chairs/​tables have been taken out. Was hoping they were just renovating but it doesn’t look that way.
Such a shame, this was my go-​to lunch spot in the neighborhood.

So today, literally about an hour ago, my classmates, teacher and I ordered a bunch of food (less than $ 50). Not only did they take about an hour or so, but they forgot 2 quesadillas. No biggie, just call and have them send it, right? NO. They didn’t offer any type of help. My teacher called and they were acting like he wasn’t making sense. They hung up the phone and refused his calls. We then called from my phone, then the same thing happened. Eventually we just put their number on the board and all called trying to get 2 damn quesadillas. But no, got absolutely no type of reimbursement. But the worst part, one of the quesadillas was for a pregnant woman who just wanted some food! Terrible! Never again. I am very disappointed. Unhappy taco! (The quesadilla wasn’t too bad though, just very small and a little cold)

As put by a friend and colleague who also counts himself a somewhat regular of this fine establishment «Happy Taco Burrito is a five in my heart.» At the end of the day, it’s hard to give 5 stars to a place where your regular order costs $ 5.59 and consists mostly of cheese.
Nonetheless, Happy Taco Burrito is a fabulous lunch spot, with ample options (including veggie options), low prices and quick service. The free Chinese tea is a nice throw-​in. I’d recommend to it anyone in the market for a quality, no-​frills meal.

I walked in here and almost accidentally ordered Chinese food. Once you are in here you totally forget you are in a «Mexican restaurant.» I dont know if they will ever make the place look more Mexican than Chinese. The food is typical Americanized Mexican food for a great price!
The menu is very extensive and has many different options. For the price, I think the food is pretty good. I got the chicken, rice, and vegetable bowl for only $ 5 and the portion was pretty large (in an 8×11″-ish pan). Nothing too special, but it was pretty good!
There is a $ 10 credit card minimum and there are maybe 6 tables for 4 people each. A pretty good place if you want to meet up with friends for lunch.

So i wasn’t dying of happiness, but this little place delivered edible food within 3 minutes flat. The taco salad shell was pretty amazing I have to say. Completely delectable in it’s sugary, gluten-​heavy lightness, it crunched enticingly and I couldn’t stop eating it until I had consumed it in it’s entirety.

If you are from California and you like Mexican food, this place is absolutely horrible. Their enchiladas don’t even have enchilada sauce. It was a tortilla stuffed with nothing but black beans covered in poor quality melted cheese. Don’t go here.

I should have paid attention to the STAR rating. The food looks better than it taste (and smells). If you are desperate and hungry (perhaps slightly intoxicated) go right ahead. It’s hard to beat the portion size for the price. But given there are other cheap places that taste significantly better within a 1 black radius I can only give 2 stars.
I had the chicken enchiladas.

Staff here was truly rude, and naturally paid no mind to my food languishing on the counter (I arrived almost immediately and it was cold, so clearly I got someone else’s no-​show order). The sign out front is listed as FreshCo per this dup
, but Eat24 lists as this. Shrimp taco was poor.

I didn’t think you could make Mexican food worse than San Loco Taco or Taco Bell. But this place managed to do it. Here’s a clue. If ya see a bunch of chinamen behind the counter and they Aren’t making general tso’s chicken, walk away. This is Mexican food for people who don’t know what Mexican food tastes like. So I guess being on campus it fits right in. The nyu campus is home to some of the worst food in NYC.

I came in here today for a little mid afternoon snack to soak up some alcohol. I ordered the ground beef nachos after looking at the menu. I figured it would be substantial enough to fill my need and keep me satisfied. The ground beef nachos were served in a to go aluminum container even tough the person filling my order also asked me if I was staying which I was.
I was given red salsa packets and there was a a section of the counter for utensils and salt and pepper.
The ground beef seemed nicely seasoned, the chips were still crispy, and there was a good amount of black beans and cheese. The menu description advertised sour cream but I didn’t see or taste any.

Absolutely love this place. I always get a quesadilla and it’s super affordable so it doesn’t hurt the wallet. Definitely recommend.

Good food at a cheap price! Its difficult to find places like this. My only complain is that the employees aren’t the friendliest.

Good. I’m glad I gave them a try. I’m always looking for better tex mex. This is my new go to place. Very pleased! :)

Happy Taco kills it. I probably eat this 4 times a week. Awesome place. Treat you like family. Unbelievably cheap.
In terms of the go-to’s: quesadillas, fajitas, enchiladas
If you want a burrito with all the works head over to the taqueria on Macdougal or Dos Toros

Seriously, they’re amazing. I went there at least a hundred times (no kidding) and they are the best place near washington square.

I always get the veggie burrito. For $ 5.35 (can of soda\ ice tea included) this is BY FAR the best deal in the northen hemisphere.

Its funny… You took forever to give me my food and it was cold, not to mention burned, and you have the nerve to YELL at me and roll your eyes for not giving you a tip. Please

I do like getting lunch delivery from here for sure. It’s fast, cheap, and pretty good. Plus, I love that they have an all white meat chicken option, for those days when I want something slightly lighter. I love the grilled chicken rice plate, which comes with plenty of marinated meat, rice, black beans, 2 tortillas, LTO, AND a soda, ALL for under $ 6! Delivery is usually pretty fast, too, thanks to Seamless. If you want something light, try getting a side of the Mexican rice and ground beef, which is only about $ 3. It’s satisfying, flavorful and you can’t beat the price! No, it’s not the best Mexican in the world but the prices are unsurpassed and the food is pretty good.

Unfortunately, I was not impressed with Happy Taco Burrito. I ordered a rice and bean burrito and was only able to eat about half of it. There really wasn’t much flavor, and it did not seem very fresh. The guac was not very tasty, while the beans and rice were mushy. The fillings were not very proportioned, with the burrito being overloaded with cheese. I love cheese, but it seemed like they tried to cover up the tasteless burrito with way too much cheese.
This place is inexpensive, but you get what you pay for.

I got delivery from here, I hate to say it but I wasn’t impressed.
Usually you can get away with just about anything when it comes to me and mexican food, but even for a cheap local go-​to, I wouldn’t recommend.
It wasn’t horrible, but I definitely won’t return.

I think I’m going to be sick. My stomach is turning in all sorts of directions! I was totally desperate to eat something and saw this place, fine. I was in a rush to get back into the NYU library. I am currently studying for the bar exam and my time is precious so I can’t waste it by walking far for good food options and it’s fucking freezing outside! I came here and just ordered a cheese quesadilla w/​guac, sour cream, and salsa. It was cheap but really gross. The cheese like wasn’t cheese.
Side note: as racist as this sounds (I apologize in advance for hurting your sensitive feelings) — Chinese folks running a Mexican place? No thanks. They should stick to Chinese food since they clearly are sucking at Mexican food!
It’s time for a name change — «Sad Taco Burrito»
