Great salon and wonderful atmosphere. Both Alex and Ben were extremely friendly, funny, and just great to be around. I went in there to have my hair color taken from dyed black to a medium brown. It was definitely time consuming, but not at one point during the 3 hour process did I feel like a problem or a bother to them. Sweet and attentive the whole time they did what would work best for my hair, and I loved the outcome. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for good quality and great service!

Love Alex and Ben, cannot have a better neighborhood haircut place where style and fun can go so well together. I have been going there for a while and have been loving my haircut and just love walking by and saying hi to my dear neighbors. Great neighborhood gem ~~~

Been coming here for years. Alex is fun and makes the haircutting experience a pure pleasure. Small shop but truly a very welcoming atmosphere.

I have been going to Hair Hoppers for many moons now, and just love the haircuts and styling that Alex creates. Ben is also a lovely guy and a wonderful colorist and hair stylist! Be ready for lots of spontaneous and wicked humor as well. Love them both! Hairhoppers is located right in the heart of the Village on Grove Street, so after your session you can go for a great cappuccino at a nearby café or just browse the great shops! It will be well worth your trip!

As others have said, Hairhoppers has been around ‘forever’, and Alex the owner is a very good hairstylist and colorist; his assistant, Ben, listens and does what Alex instructs him to do even when the 3 – 4 chairs are filled with clients. That being said, it is quite expensive for my sister(she is a ‘senior’) to get a cut and a coloring as she has been doing for many years now. What used to be $ 85 – 99.00 for cut and coloring is now nearly $ 150.00, and with personable Alex the ‘sky’s the limit’ when it comes to figuring out what price he will charge at any given time? In this worsening economy it probably is a better bet to try to find a competent cutter and hair colorist who does not charge beyond $ 100.00 rather than go to Hairhoppers which charges whatever Alex the owner decides should be charged for that appointment. My sister travels 2 subway stops to get to Hairhoppers, and she is now pondering whether or not to search for similar cut and coloring somewhere else in Manhattan?

Alex, the owner is extremely friendly. While I was in there, all of the other customers had been coming to him for years. The newest customer besides myself had been coming for 2 years… the longest, 26 years! It’s a tiny joint with just three chairs. He had one other stylist, Ben who cut my hair. He did an average job which is why I only gave it 3 stars. I will probably go back because its very close to my place, but I will request an appointment with Alex. Men’s basic cut and wash = $ 45

I was looking for a new hair place, and saw this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a whirl. I was extremely satisfied after I left and look forward to ‘hopping’ back. Basically I was met with extremely friendly service, and my appointment was right on time. It also had an extremely friendly vibe, and you get a sense you are really welcome there. It’s also really cozy with good tunes. What can I say, the cut was very-well done and exactly what I was looking for. It also was a great value($ 45) considering many places charge an arm and leg for a simple’s men’s haircut.

I have had my hair cut by both Alex and Kevin and they are both impeccable. Go there ONCE and the second time you come back Alex will remember exactly how you cut your hair the last time, i guarantee it. Men’s haircut is $ 40 and I think it’s well worth it because both of them are highly experienced. I think if you pay anything less than that you probably have to go to barbershop kind of place. So glad I found good hairdressers here, because for some reason a man’s haircut is so easy to screw up!!!

Plain and simple — the man knows his business. At first glance, the small salon looks like any other. Upon a closer look, you will realize it is nothing of the sort. Everyone is smiling and happy to be there. Alex is the reason. His personality and humor is quintessential new yorker, and he keeps the atmosphere light, but all the while he is masterfully cutting hair and keeping a watchful eye on the other goings on in the shop. I found him by chance over a decade ago and have not used anyone else since. Everyone’s idea of a great haircut is different, but Hair Hoppers is more than worth giving a shot.
