I have to agree with previous reviews. The store is absolutely filthy and so tiny you can’t possibly push a stroller around. Staff is unfriendly, unhelpful and uncaring. I’m so much better off ordering from fresh direct. They should consider closing the store down. It is a disgrace.

DONOTSHOPHERE. Might actually be the worst grocery store in Manhattan… Used to shop here about once a week and then stopped when I noticed I was being over charged on my banking statements. I called the store and they said it was because I requested cash back– WHICH I DIDN’T– meaning, the cashier must have been taking it for himself. When I contacted corporate, I got no response whatsoever. Pathetic.

Was a complete ghetto market when we first moved in here last Spring. Has since done some renovating and cleaning which has marginally improved things. Still, produce tends to rot day after I buy it, the employees are untrained, unprofessional and genuinely seem to have no clue(or don’t care) when customers are around. Isn’t cheap despite being Shoprite brand and working at low price point. Hope that Eden’s Gourmet or Whole Foods or any other quality grocery comes in and takes over space.

I live across the street in the Cove Club and the only reasonable item to buy in terms of price/quality is the milk. The produce is nasty(especially the bananas). One thing that’s really disgusting is how they dump the trash on the sidewalk(West Thames Street side) and it sits there as a feast for rats. How about putting the garbage in rat-proof bins/containers? Folks, do what I do and drive out to A&P in Jersey City(near Target). Fresher food, cheaper prices, more selection. Use zipcar or Hertz-on-Demand if you don’t have wheels :)

$ 14 for a 6-pack? This was my quickest option bc I was running 45 mins late to dinner w friends, but hell will freeze over before I return.

Hideous, filthy, ghetto, after-market products(shop-rite brand) and JACKED up prices on regular items. The good tax payers of Battery Park City deserve better than this monopoly by both Gristedes and owner John Catsimatidis(wanna-be Mayoral candidate 09). There are two — one at 71 South End and the other at 321 S. End. I truly believe their existence lowers our property value down here. I’ve lived in BPC for over 15yrs and they have always been this way. Rotting produce, surly(questionable) staff and the overwhelming STENCH of moth balls in the one at 21 South End.(God knows what kind of vermin they are warding off with that!) They have been cited and even closed down by the health dept in years past. Further, they took 9⁄11 funds and never did anything to improve either location. One is rumored to have had rats eating through the center of loaves of bread at one time. Really FOUL. I’ve been using Fresh Direct ONLY since the moment they began delivering in BPC. I can guarantee the majority of residents do the same — or now waste their money at Whole Foods.

This place is filthy and unorganized. It really sucks that this is the closest supermarket to my apartment. Their selection is bare minimum and their produce is crap. The prices are pretty outrageous as well, most likely due to the fact that their only competition is Whole Foods, where I would have to take a subway to Chambers(kind of a pain in the ass, and they are over-priced too) or Fresh Direct. which when you need something ASAP, Fresh Direct isn’t really an option. Also, went here today and the people at the register were all standing around eating chips and dip. REALLY? That is disgusting, this isn’t your living room.

Monopoly! I resent having to shop here, having just moved into the BPC area. Prices are outrageous! Staple items are 10−30% higher than what I’m used to paying back in Cali. This store is a maze. The aisles are confusing. I had to walk around 2 or 3 times just to orient myself. Fruit selection was sparse and the quality was poor. Dry goods like cereal and oatmeal — 30% mark up over standard retail. Beer — $ 23 bucks for a 12 pack of Corona. I couldn’t believe my eyes… see pix…
