Greenwich Letterpress

I’ve been coming to Greenwich Letterpress ever since I moved to NYC in 2012. I always get birthday cards, mother’s/father’s day cards, Valentine’s Day cards, Christmas cards, etc here. They have an excellent selection and have cards for basically any occasion. I’ve never used their custom services, but I’m sure they’re wonderful. The staff is friendly. The store is just the cutest, well organized, and they constantly have new items. They also have other stationery items such as stamps, twine, gift bags, stationery, calendars, etc. I’ve gotten a calendar here and a stationery set that I was very happy with.
I recently went in to pick up birthday cards and a Valentine’s Day card, and they had those little Valentine’s that we all used to bring to school! I picked up one of those just for fun.
The cards here are pricier than one that you’ll find at Duane Reade, but they’re beautiful and well made. Some are made by Greenwich Letterpress and others are from other brands.
It can get a bit crowded but it’s never packed.

The other day (on my to Dominique Ansel Kitchen), I stumbled upon this card shop in the West Village that I’d never even heard of (and, if you know me, you should be well aware that I’m a dominant figure in the greeting-​card-​store scene*). They’ve had a storefront since 2005 and surprise, surprise — it’s great!
They sell a lot of independently published greeting cards (ie. the best ones), some stationary, wall décor, etc. If you find yourself on Christopher Street, you should definitely stop inside.
*Yes, there is a greeting-​card-​store scene and no I’m not embarrassed to be in it.

Ugh — all the way down here from Columbus Circle and they closed an hour early. Money wasted both directions… Thx

A cool little place with tons of cute postcards, key tags, and quirky nick knacks.
Although slightly on the expensive side, you should still pay it a visit if you’re looking for a nice little souvenir to remind you of Greenwich.
I might not have a picture, but seriously check out their key tags. They look like legitimate hotel key tags.

This place is a magical wonderful and a snail mailer’s dream. Quirky and fun notecards for every occasion — and some that are clever enough to make you *wish* you had cause to buy them even if you don’t! Especially good options for pop culture fanatics, but they also have lots of cute NYC-​centric offerings. And if you’re getting married, no question this should be your first stop. Their wedding invites are simply sublime and totally original.

They have a card for every occasion! I’m a sucker for stationery, so it’s hard for me not to go crazy here because the selection is SO good. Come here instead of lame Papyrus.

A must-​stop in New York for independently designed, printed, and produced paper goods, including cards, office supplies, and novelty items. I buy grid paper pads here, also greeting cards, which I stockpile for when I need them. The designs are very special and the selection is great. It’s hard for me to go to NYC and not stop here.

A gut-​wrenchingly adorable stationer whose prices follow suit. I would give them four stars if only they sold wax seals and stamps. Much like other reviewers, I had an experience in which I asked if they carried the aforementioned items, and the shopkeeper quickly replied «no» as if she had been asked that repeatedly. Since there’s clearly a disconnect between supply and demand, why not just start carrying a small selection?

Nice selection of unique artisanal greeting cards and related gift-​y stuff. Prices were not ridiculous for this kind of thing.

I’m a letterpress lover, and am over Paper Source and Papyrus … Always looking for new spots. Greenwich Letterpress is my new fav! I wanted to dislike it for being trendy and posh… But I can’t.
The selection of letterpress cards is a typical mix of trendy, funny, vintage-​inspired, and NYC-​specific. Good selection across all card genres. Journals, gift tags, collectible pins, stationery, and well-​curated odds and ends round out the store.
Prices are comparable to other stationery stores, and was in fact cheaper than House of Cards and Curiosities.
The store is clean, nicely arranged, and charming.
They also do custom orders!

After having to deal with the staff at this store, I have come away wanting to write scathing reviews each time. However, I decided each time not to do so, and wait until I was far enough removed from the situation to post something.
It goes without saying that the merchandise in GLP is unique, whimsical and charming, but the people who are selling it are quite the opposite. This review isn’t based on a one time visit; I have visited this store many times, consistently being disappointed. Several times I have gone the entire duration of my shopping experience without hearing a word from the staff. No hello, no goodbye and many of those times I have been the only person in the store. Upon purchasing an item you will receive minimal eye contact. I was actually convinced at one point that this store was the site of a social experiment involving a group of deaf, blind, mutes. Who knows, that could still be the case.
Anyway, the inventory is great, but truly not worth the stress of feeling like a burden. The past few visits I have made have been at the request of others, or out of sheer desperation. In addition to their lack of common courtesy, the staff lacks any common knowledge. On one visit, I had asked if they carried wax seals– not a totally far fetched concept for a glorified stationary store– to which a confused employee dumbfoundedly, yet still arrogantly responded with: «No, we don’t carry that.» As if I asked her where I could find the Malaria.
Also I feel like every time I go in there the same girl working the register (never leaving said register to help guests, no matter how dead it is) is always eating. The first time I saw it it was later in the day, closer to when they closed and she was eating a granola bar. No big deal, but the the second time, around 3 in the afternoon on a weekday she was eating an entire sandwich! On the sales floor! So bizarre. All the while I could hear two people whispering in that closet of a back room. Why they couldn’t let her eat in the back while someone else stood up front doing absolutely nothing for 20 minutes makes no sense, but I guess the card game is pretty cut-​throat.
Bottom Line: don’t waste your time. If you want a pleasurable shopping experience, go to Paper Source, where the staff is more than accommodating, they have an enormous selection of cards and you don’t feel like you’ve been punished just for walking in the store.
Hopefully the staff reads these reviews with understanding and doesn’t just write them off with their signature blasé attitudes.

They have the best unique letterpress cards for all occasions and unique stationary items and small gifts. It is in some ways a step back in time. Very friendly helpful staff.
Worthy of a visit even to browse in the West Village. Nice.

This is one of those stores with ironic letterpress cards, decorative owls, twine, striped paper straws, and notebooks for sale with tiny bikes on the cover.
I would love to hate this place for being so obviously cute and vintage and campy, but I don’t. Instead, I love everything about it.
It’s the perfect store to buy something small, like a stationary set with French words on the packaging or kitchy buttons that say «Happy Birthday! Today is your Day!» or «One Year Wiser». Even the guy behind the counter was so nice, helpful, and normal. He wrapped the present I bought from the store with the paper I bought. I could have spent some more time exploring this tiny store. Shamelessly, I’ll be back.

I read about Greenwich Letterpress, went into the store and was blown away.
I love the quirkiness & originality. Give a card from Greenwich Letterpress & it will be the only one like it (maybe no longer because of these great reviews).
The personnel were incredibly helpful, patient & kind — both on the phone & in the store.
All my friends have adored the cards & gifts I’ve found there. It is my go-​to to pick out the perfect card for any occasion.
Then I worked with Amy on invitations for my 50^th birthday party, and I’m a fan for life!
Amy helped me create a fantastic invitation my friends displayed on their refrigerators & keep talking about.
Another plus is their commitment to the environment & sustainable energy.

The selection is so small now and everything I liked there seems to no longer be there. Plus it’s true what someone else said — the staff often seems unhappy. I liked that bag with the pigeon and Wash Sq Arch and I had been a fan but my recent visit not impressed anymore. A lack of cool journals like they used to have and diminished stock and options.

A friend and I wandered by Greenwich Letterpress after brunch and from the quaint and adorable exterior, we had to stop in! I am a sucker for great cards– I could spend way too much time browsing cards at Target. But, these cards are so unique, original and you can find one for any occasion! She also has a selection of journals, stamps, and other goodies that are great for gifts or for yourself! Most cards range from $ 4.50-$ 6, so really affordable for their great quality. The staff was also very friendly! You can peek in the studio next to the shop where they print the cards– very cool!

At first glance, the cards seem overpriced. Most cards are $ 4, $ 4.50, and $ 5. But if you go to your neighborhood chain pharmacy, you’ll find that the prices are comparable, $ 3 – 5. I guess it seems unequal at first because the cards here are small and not flashy. They’re very cute and understated. With the big publishers, you feel like you’re getting more for the money somehow, because there’s a picture of a kitten or a baby.
The place is cute and very village. I didn’t end up buying anything because the hipster working the counter was having a lengthy chat with a customer and I was in a rush. I was about to buy a couple cards though. I’ll definitely be back someday.

I came here looking for an engagement card. They have a good selection, but most of them were a little too plain or a little too frilly for my taste. I will say that they have the largest same-​sex wedding cards I’ve seen, so that’s pretty awesome.
Their biggest selection is by far birthday cards. Some are rather plain, and I can’t imagine paying that much for them. They’re a little quirky, too.
I’d say I’d most likely come back here for the other paper supplies, like notebooks and cards. There was some really cute stuff displayed in the center table. Now, if only I had an occasion!!!

Very pricey, but they’re all pretty much one of a kind and it’s in the village.
I bought a card for my parents, it was made to be a wedding card, but I used it for their 10 year wedding anniversary. The card was a ticket to Happily Ever After. After 10 yrs, they’ve gotta be there by now, right?
