I’m all about personalized customer service and diverse collection. This place has a vintage vibe and located right in the village. I was treated like a person compare to these other local shops where the employees are drunk on their own stuff and the customer feels rushed. I really appreciated the time the guys took to explain to me the different products they have available as I was hosting a party and was not to familiar with what would be good to serve. All in all great experience definitely worth going over if you are planning on hosting a party or just grabbing something for Friday night.

Great neighborhood wine shop, with an outstanding selection of Bordeaux and Burgundy (both current releases, as well as older vintages); Champagne and sparkling; domestic gems (including high end cult reds); and Loire Valley red and whites. And rose!!! Great selection of rose from across the globe!!! Fantastic selection of spirits as well — and very friendly and well-​educated staff. I always stop by for the wine tastings. I used to manage a similar style /​sized wine shop in the East Village. if only our selection was like Golden Rule.

This has to be the worst experience I’ve ever had in a liquor store. Actually, let me re-​phrase that ANY store. I purchased a bottle of wine and the wine had clearly turned. Tasted a bit off and was undrinkable. I typically don’t like complaining or returning things but it was a huge bottle of wine and I had spent a considerable amount of money.
I called the store and informed them. They then asked for me to go back to the store and they’d do an exchange. I go in, and all I see is this grumpy guy sitting in the back room. He comes out with a death stare and I knew I was in trouble and immediately wanted to run out of the door. He asked his assistant to smell and test the wine and she said I can’t tell. Then he got out of his chair and grumpily without acknowledging my presence smells and taste the wine and looks at me and says its fine. And says «I dont know whats wrong with you the wines fine.» Then he asks a customer who’s browsing through wines to come to the register and taste the wine and the customer was like huh? uhm okay sure. Then he has another person try and I’m just standing there in complete misery. He keeps stating its fine, its fine! I don’t know what your problem is (YELLING AT ME).
Just to paint a picture for you I’m a young small girl in her 20s. I wouldn’t hurt a fly and this guy was yelling at me like some crazy person. I was completely taken back, his eye balls were coming out of his face. He then proceeds to yell, have you ever had a chianti before? THE WINE IS FINE. I politely say back, I’m sorry but it tasted off to me. And now you’ve distributed my wine. He then shoves his hand and says take another and doesn’t even acknowledge me after shaming me in front of the whole store.
This is quite possibly the rudest, most unprofessional customer service I’ve ever been through. Yes, its annoying when a customer returns an item but its part of ANY business. Some wines are of, actually, most wines turn, thats why they have you taste at a restaurant once they’ve opened a new bottle. A business that handles it properly are the ones that KEEP receiving business. I’m in complete shock and have no idea how I made it through that situation. Everyone in the store was embarrassed for me.
All i can say is go elsewhere. Many places here in the west village to go to with much better customer service.
Oh and the second bottle of wine tastes MUCH better. idiot.

Wine tastings. Personalized Service, Online ordering and Delivery. Classic interior design– Golden Rule has it covered. I always come here for party favors, gifts or for the casual bottle to keep in my apartment.
I came to Golden rule not knowing a lot about wine. I’m no expert, but I can thank the Golden Rule for making me a much more knowledgeable wine buyer.

I’ve worked in the area for over 15 years and this spot is the GO TO for whenever we need great spirits at a reasonable price. The staff is always friendly and responsive — when there was a particular kind of spirit I was looking for that they didn’t carry, they ordered a case of it so that they’d have it when I came in. They have wine tastings on different nights of the week and the spot is just cozy and convenient… PLUS… they deliver! You can’t go wrong!

nice little place in SoHo. They had a reposado mezcal I couldn’t find anywhere else in the city… not even sherry Lehmann could help me. Highly recommended.

They’re always friendly and helpful. The occasional wine tasting and great service make this West Village wine & liqueur store THE place to go for whatever you may want to enhance a delicious meal at home, your bar set-​up at the beach or for a nice gift.
The iconic store front and neon sign conveys a sense of Old New York. Their window displays are always creative and enticing.
Best of all, if you live in the neighborhood, just keep Golden Rule on your speed dial favorites and you’re never more than a phone call away from a speedy delivery!

Great neighborhood wine & liquor shop. Very friendly and knowledgable. While store is small, it is full of both know & unknown bottles of wine. Go off the beaten path with a Cremant de Jura (Sparkling wine from france that is beautiful & a great value.) Or with the Amisfield 2012 New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from the Central Otago region where the soil is Glacial Schist and the wine shines with the minerality of a French white burgundy. Another great value at $ 21.00. They also deliver if the weather is too cold for you to get there (like tonight!) If you need a bigger selection, head over 2 blocks to Le Du… another neighborhood gem. Cheers!

You know those fat white guys that are trying to be friendly but are being completely racist? …there’s one that works there.

Wonderful selection of spirits and careful list of wines. Terrific and knowledgable staff who remember exactly what I’ve liked in the past. Their recommendations are great.

These guys rock. It doesn’t hurt that they are on my walk home from work and have free tastings… but they have great prices, a wide selection, and when they recommend a bottle its never the priciest and its always been good. If you want cool-​hipster vibe (great labels, organic, knows where the grape was grown-​type service), then head to Smith & Vine out in Brooklyn. Or the guys at
(terrible name for a storefront business) on Jones St. Otherwise, the guys at Golden Rule deliver– and have great prices!
