I brought in a ring for resizing. Vintage sterling silver, with a large fire agate gemstone. The woman at the counter was helpful – I could have it done for $ 30, while I waited. After a very long wait, the jeweler returned the ring to me. It was polished, resized– *with an ENORMOUSCHUNKOFTHEGEMSTONEMISSING, and CRACKS running through what was left of it.* The jeweler acted as though I brought it in like this–«I don’t know, all I did was clean it.» The owner took the jeweler down to the basement; I suppose to look for the part of my agate stone that was missing. When he returned, he told me he hadn’t seen the ring before the jeweler took it, so he didn’t know who to believe. Both men obviously knew that the jeweler had destroyed my ring– but refused to take responsibility. I was heartbroken and angry: I said that I understood that accidents happen… but the fact that they didn’t take responsibility for their mistake(and accused ME of «probably bringing it in like that») is disgusting and cowardly. Do not bring anything you hold dear, to these guys. I would also be skeptical of the jewelry they’re selling, based on their dishonest behavior.
