I ordered that giant box with all the stuff in it. Oh man, the dish is heavy. I managed to finish it, but I got food coma almost immediately. Maybe next time I won’t order something rich at work. Good curry though. The rice is a bit sticky, but that’s whatever when it all gets slathered in curry.

Quick and affordable katsu curry! It’s definitely different than most Japanese food establishments I’ve been to. It’s a casual, hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant with a simple menu consisting of Japanese-styled curry with chicken katsu, pork katsu, shrimp tempura, and sausage. The chicken katsu and curry was decent. The katsu itself was okay, but the curry made it better. My favorite part of the meal was the rice — I liked the stickiness of it and thought it was cooked quite well. Prices are great, food is decent… but the plating is just so unattractive. But if you can get past the unappealing brown glob, you probably won’t be disappointed! What probably dampened my experience was the fact that it was rainy and there was mud all over the floor. The counters were also not clean, which was an additional turn-off for me. But despite the grimy-ness of the restaurant that day and unattractive dishes, it’s a solid place for katsu curry.

You know what Go Go Curry feels like? It feels like being wrapped in a blanket that just came out of the dryer. Because it’s warm, comforting, and smells so good. When I used to work in the area, it was like church to me. I would walk over, offer my tithing, and would be given a blessing of rice and curry and panko-crusted chicken. Eating this is an out-of-body experience. After scarfing down a double size of this curry dish, I was literally floating out of my body. It’s just that good. It’s one my most favorite places to eat at in Manhattan. They know what their doing when it comes to their curry. There are over a thousand reviews on Unilocal so it’s been covered by many, but in my mind, this is the gold standard when it comes to Japanese-style curry. If you’re going to do one thing, do it well… and they certainly do.

When you want a quick and affordable curry, this place is what comes to my mind. Inside is rather small, it is just a one room setting with counter seats on one side, and table seating on the other side, and ordering counter at the end. They also have a water tank and refrigerator where you can purchase some drinks or free water right by the counter. It is usually crowded with those who are looking for a quick bite at affordable price. Menu is pretty simple, basically, just rice, curry sauce, and extra side like chicken katsu, shrimp temupra, sausage, boiled egg, etc. Most of their offerings come with lots of toppings/sides, but the main thing there, «curry and rice» was barely there, which was disappointing. If you are going to the«Curry» eatery, then you are expecting to eat curry. But here, it is more about the toppings, plus a little curry sauce and rice. And what else? The special red pickles, Fukujinzuke, that always accompany Japanese curry was not there. When we asked about it, we were told that we have to buy them… So, after the lunch, we were still not satisfied. We were comfortably full, but not full in our hearts, if you know what I mean. Something was missing, and didn’t quite get that happy feeling when you finish your meal. Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

Came here on a Go! day(every 5th, 15th, 25th) and received a free-topping coupon. I wanted to use it right away, but no such luck! The coupon is for the next visit… which sucks because I’m not sure if I’ll be returning. I ordered the katsu curry single(pork-chop curry) which costs $ 7.50 and frankly I wasn’t all that impressed. The katsu was too crunchy and not flaky enough. The meat itself was pretty dry and lacked flavor. The fried layer fell off each I pressed my fork into the meat… ha. ha. But overall I just didn’t really enjoy it. The curry was the saving grace though. The price-point isn’t too bad either, unless you order shrimp curry, because they’ll give you 2SHRIMP at the same price you pay for an entire katsu. That’s pretty ridiculous.
