I’m going to miss Gene’s, which was WAY better than Viand. Food was fine, service was brisk but friendly. Sorry to see them go.

Yuck, just had a turkey burger there… i had to ask if that’s turkey and he said Yes… it was horrible and scary… that piece of pickle tasted like super old and i’m not sure where they buy it from. It reminds me the smell of an old Indian grocery in mid west. The fries was disgusting also. I don’t know… maybe shouldn’t expect anything when come to a diner but i had great food in other diners before… i can’t eat it here again. :C=== Ahh, i mentally not feeling well right now because i was so hungry and i actually ate the burger.

I used to like this place, then I found out today that the cashier was over charging me! then she caught an attitude. Usually I pay whatever, but there’s no way that tax brings my meal up but a whole $ 2. If your menu says 9.95 for French toast and with tax I’m paying 12, something isn’t right there. Then when I come on a day that she is not the cashier I pay 10.30, I’m going to start asking questions. She literally ran away to the back and didn’t return once I asked her how much was tax and wouldn’t give me a receipt. That’s just terrible!

I went to this place few times just because I live close by, but I would never go again. If u can’t make good food is understanding… but at least treat people good. Service is the worst service I ever experienced in restornat business! Not recommended.

Gene’s is your standard tiny NYC diner. The food is good and FAST. Great for a quick lunch or breakfast. They do take out as well. The restaurant could use a better AC system during the summer months but they know how to do breakfast and the staff is always fast and reliable. Note to self that they only do tips in cash.

Upper East Side Breakfast SAVE! Wandering the streets en route to Black Friday Shopping, we were keeping our eye out for a breakfast spot. We came across Gene’s and in we went. Another beautifully maintained old school coffee shop, this place is great! We were ushered quickly to our table, seated and drinks were on the old school formica table lickedy split! The table polished off an omelette, a bagel with a schmear, and french toast like we hadn’t eaten for weeks(Day after Thanksgiving hunger games). Note about the omelette: expert use of avocado! Green and fresh even after cooked in an omelette– nice! We were in an out and field up for Black Friday in no time! Gene’s was clean, friendly, and reasonably priced! I loved it!

Fast service! Seated right away, Max took my order, and the food came out promptly which by the way was delicious.(I had a Gene’s Omelette: avocado, bacon, Swiss, & peppers w/roasted potatoes on the side). FYI: you can pay with a card, but notify them about your tip up front! I was unaware, and wasn’t able to add my tip after they ran my card. :(

Wanted a hot tea. The water given was beyond horrible I can see floating particles in the water like really? Don’t need another cup the first batch of hot water is a warning. Decent portions. Cozy. Only came for potential business meeting. Hmm. I arrived alone coming straight from work to meet acquaintances of course I’m early and alone. I have my food it’s okay can taste the fresh off the grill. You know? I get the feeling of being rushed by the«waiter» mind you it’s only six people in here and four are at a table together. so now after being here for thirty mins. Oh. You want another water. No. I don’t. I reply. I want oj. To go?. Remember I’m being rushed. No I want it for here. Mind you my plate full. Yea eat here at your own risk if your a female. Brown. And alone. It’s scary to them. My green backs should of been all the color they needed to see.

This is your usual Diner food — my two eggs over easy with Home Fry Potatoes were good. However, the Whole Wheat toast was average tasting because the quality of the bread they used was cheap. All, and all, I would have breakfast here again and skip the Whole Wheat toast and maybe I will try an English Muffin instead. The service was quick, and my waiter and staff were very nice.

This Upper East Side Greek Diner continues to deliver the BEST Tuna Salad Sandwich. It’s such a pleasure to get a meal on this neighborhood at a great price and without the pretense. And, the still have many Greek servers, some things(pleasantly) never change! Long love Gene’s!!!

Great salads! Fast, delicious and big portions. I ordered a Chef’s salad(large). It’s much too big for most people, but if you’re hungry then it’s good choice.

I work right near Gene’s and was excited to see an old diner/coffee shop! A coworker and I decided to order burgers from Gene’s today. The menu has cheeseburger deluxe at 7.50(an extra $ 1 for onion rings instead of fries). We ordered two cheeseburgers with onion rings. The bill was $ 24. I’ve now told a few people and they confirm this place overcharges. At least they didn’t charge me $ 30 for a hot dog — right? The cashier was friendly but ignored my questions about the sides, extra mustard… we had no mustard. He assured me condiments were in the bag. The burger was bland but edible. The onion rings were mushy(frozen back of the freezer of the grocery generic version) and really just terrible. Gene’s should have given me an extra $ 1 for eating one of their onion rings. If you are in the area for lunch… skip the allure of the cute old fashioned diner and go to Delissimo Deli across the street. You can eat a yummy Delissimo soup or whatever else while sitting in Central Park.

For a diner their menu is short, but the food is very solid. I really like their cream of turkey soup whic is very hearty with a fragrant nutmeg hint.

Ordered delivery which arrived under half an hour. Each thing was individually well packed which I really appreciated. I got the eggplant parmigiana($ 14.95) which comes on top of spaghetti and with the choice of a soup or salad. I chose the french onion soup and also asked for a roll to go with it along a side of their fries($ 2.95). The french onion soup was very buttery and had a significant amount of cheese that it was topped with — but ended up being mixed into the soup for me due to it having to be delivered. It was very savory and rich. I used the roll that they included in my order to soak up the soup which worked out perfectly. However, besides, the soup, the rest of the food tasted bland and cheap. The roll was very cheap and dry. The french fries, while they smelled amazing, had very little actual flavor and I could barely eat it. I ended up recooking the fries at home in a cast iron pan with salt and a bit of garlic which helped. There were 5 pieces of eggplant but the eggplant tasted old and definitely not fresh and a very thin slice that was heavily coated in the batter. It was topped with what seemed like canned tomato sauce and fake, cheap cheese. There was also essentially no sauce on the pasta and so I was eating plain, flavorless noodles from the box. Very disappointed in the food taste so I probably won’t be ordering from here again but good service and french onion soup.

Good, basic diner in the neighborhood. I usually get the waffle, which is outstanding.

Solid, NYC old school diner. They get you in and out, you can add anything on whatever you want whenever. Always a plus for someone who doesn’t like breakfast food. Def check it out.

Visiting from Australia we were missing an ordinary breakfast meal. The waiter was friendly enough. My boyfriend ordered an English breakfast tea and was brought an Earl Grey. We decided just to keep it anyway. My boyfriend also ordered poached eggs and was served raw and runny half cooked eggs. The waiter exclaimed to us that poached eggs are usually«softer» and I explained that doesn’t necessarily mean raw. I worked in a café for 6 years so I know what poached eggs are! We asked him to just bring us fried eggs. He didn’t replace the toast that the raw poached egg was sitting on even though we placed it to the edge of the table and we were obviously not going to eat it, so the boyfriend was left to eat his eggs on one slice of toast. Not the best place to have breakfast…

Gene’s is a classic New York diner located in midtown Manhattan. I’ve been coming to this location for almost 15 years as it’s located across the street from my office. Whether it’s the egg sandwich I grab on my way to the office or burger I have with my coworkers in one of the booth, Gene never disappoints! The service is quick and attentive and the servers always know your regular order. For breakfast, I get an egg and cheese on a croissant. For lunch, it’s either a blue cheese burger or the lumberjack breakfast! If I’m feeling extremely decadent, I’ll order a double thick milkshake. Yum! If your in the midtown area, definitely stop by and try Gene’s for a true NY diner experience.
