octopus, cauliflower, scrambled eggs, and mushroom paella were all standouts. get a reservation or sit in the lounge/bar

Amazing time at Bobby Flay’s Gato restaurant. Ambience, décor, wait staff and presentation. Cocktail menu was great. I had the cocktail they called Nacho, a tequila añejo with ancho chile, ginger and lime mix served in a coupe glass. Delicious!!! My wife had a cocktail with elder flower liqueur, which is her favorite. We also sampled the Bar choice of 3 appetizer menu. A plate of roasted eggplant, pork tenderloin and sea scallop with chilies on top. Perfect bites. Our entrées where nothing short of perfection. Bobby Flay knocks it out of the park with a steamed halibut in saffron tomato broth. I had the saffron linguini with mussels garlic and parsley. We expressed to our wait staff that we were celebrating our 30th anniversary and they gave us some after dinner cherry liqueur along with our pistachio brown butter cake with port and honey gelato. Great flavors and great time here at Gato. Next time we come will be with our family and friends.

Great dinner for a large party(7 people): fine cocktails, delicious food, winning service and professional, friendly front-of-house staff. Given size of our group we booked the round table in the back on OT(that table apparently has 2 seatings on a Sat night, 5:30 and 8:30; we took 8:30). Table was ready on time and of decent size, though the unpadded chairs could have been more comfortable. Cocktails were very good; I really enjoyed the delicious Nico, with bourbon and blackberry shrub; my fellow imbibers around the table were all pleased with their drinks as well. We ordered a mix of bar items, appetizers, mains and desserts. There really wasn’t a clunker in the bunch, and the standouts were: + Melon, crispy ham, fig vinegar + Burrata, peperonata, harissa + Artichoke heart, quail egg, uni (All delicious; note portions from this section of menu are tiny) + Roasted Octopus, sour orange, bacon, oregano + Pizza with Wild Mushrooms, crispy garlic, ricotta, thyme (Both of these were outstanding; pizza was inhaled and we immediately ordered a second, liked it better than the lamb sausage one we also tried) + Charred Carrots, parsnip chips, harissa, mint, yogurt + Kale and Wild Mushroom Paella, crispy artichokes, egg + Porterhouse Pork Chop, tomato pan juices, romesco, polenta + Orata, piquillo pesto, roasted lemon olive oil, pink & black pepper (The paella was particularly wonderful; pork chop was great and the orata very very good) Desserts, while fine, were the weakest link in the meal; of the five we tried, we liked best: + Pistachio brown butter cake with black currants, port and honey gelato + Fromage blanc cheesecake with fresh strawberries and pistachio-almond crust (Less successful were the dark chocolate polenta cake and the blood orange/lemon tart; espresso bread pudding was good but not as good as a well-made tiramisu, which it resembled) As is usually the case with Bobby Flay’s food, the flavors were clear, bright and bold, the seasoning vibrant and warm, and the preparations unfussy. Our waiter was great: knowledgeable, personable, attentive and charming — and the service overall was professional and friendly. Overall a delicious meal in a sexy, buzzing, great-looking space. We’d all gladly go back.

Consistently delicious food. Managed to get a table early in the evening for dinner. Bobby Flay never disappoints. His food is absolutely scrumptious and full of flavors. This is a great restaurant and reservations are hard to get. They do have a small lounge area for waiting where they also serve the full menu. I recommend the place for special occasions. Like most of his food, its delicious but heavy. Be prepared to doze off after a scrumptious meal here!

Proudly owned by the renown chef Bobby Flay, Gato was named after an orange cat that has walked by when Bobby was waiting to see his lease location. With more than 100 years of history, the building is now rejuvenated by the fun-Mediterranean cuisine that I was about to try today. Words failed me. My friend and I arrived just on time and were seated right away. As neither of us was staving, we decided to go light — shared the roasted cauliflower, grilled octopus, as well as the kale/mushroom paella. Food was all of a smaller size so I would recommend to order more plates if hungry. Paella was absolutely the star of the night, as they were able to maintain both the crunchiness of kale and the tenderness of mushroom. There was no meat whatsoever, yet it somehow just hit my taste bud! Kind of noisy, if you were unlucky enough and seated next to the bar area; however quality of food itself crushed. #paella #Mediterranean

This restaurant is Bobby Flay’s trendy NYC hot spot. The service was outstanding but I thought the food was a little in the pricier side. I tried a number of things on the menu and would recommend the kale and mushroom paella and the orata fish. Both filled with lots of flavor and super yummy. Definitely a fun restaurant if you are visiting NYC.

Haven’t been mind blown in a while and Gato really did it for me. I’ve always loved Spanish tapas and had my reservation before trying this place — not the biggest fan of Bobby Flay. Oh man, the food — all of the flavors are so robust and delicious! And it wasn’t just the food that was impressive, the service was impeccable and the décor… just love the industrial chic look. What we ordered: Eggplant, Eleven layer potato, Stuffer red pepper, Roasted Octopus, Roasted shrimp, Roasted Cauliflower, Porkchop, Saffron linguine, and lastly the Kale and Mushroom Paella. OMG, I die. It was so good. Counting down the days until I can come back. Can. Not. Wait.

I had the the lamb sausage pizza to start and the charred beef for my entrée. Both were great. Definitely will return to try the other dishes on the menu. Service was great!

Decent priced for well flavored tapas style dinner cuisine. Mr. Flay classed it up in both food and ambiance than I thought. Impressed and definitely a return trip worthy.

Thank you Bobby Flay! Delicious food, nice large open room, friendly service. Highlights from our order: Excellent: Kale and mushroom paella: there’s a good reason this is their most popular order and a frequently reviewed item on Unilocal… Perfect texture, heat and seasoning. Must try. Eleven layer potato: I wish they made a larger portion. So good but very small in bar bites Great: From the veggies section: Charred carrots: very tender, unique carrot dish. Not many places do carrots this well. Roasted cauliflower: less unique but still delicious Good: Garrotxa: not really sure exactly what this was but it was vegetarian and covered with a dressing. Crunchy and tasted like horseradish Burrata: dense exterior, soft interior, good but not anything unique The bar bites are very small. Literally one or two bites per person. 3 bar bites, 2 vegetable side, and 1 entrée were plenty for two people and left no room for dessert. Enjoy!

Very good food! Excellent white wine by the glass! Good little lounge area by the bar. Minus a star for honoring reservation on time and service. Here’s what we ate: «Choose 3» — the eggplant(this was tasty!), piquillo stuffed with tuna(which just tasted like piquillo so it was kind of a waste of tuna if you ask me!), and the seared yellowtail(fine!). I thought these were all high quality. Only about two bites each but a nice way to start the meal, along with the complimentary focaccia. We got the scrambled eggs and the crab risotto; loved them both. It was the perfect amount of food for two people who weren’t starving and don’t mind eating the bread. I’d come back and get the crab risotto again(and maybe the eggs) but otherwise try other things, like the octopus. We thought dessert looked good but our server took so long to come back to get our order(to be fair, we asked her to come back because we hadn’t decided) that we had to just bail. They sounded good though! Next time I suppose!

Omg! This place is great! My gf recommended this place and after I did more research, I decided to check it out. The food and the service was on top! I will definitely be going back to try other dishes. If I could give it more stars, I would. I’m glad that I came with two of my gfs who love to eat! All the appetizers were so yummy. The portions for the appetizers were pretty tiny, but it gave us room for the main entrée and dessert.

Had reservations here for 7:30pm on a Sunday night. I called that Monday and that was all that was available for the weekend so make sure to plan in advance! The restaurant itself is very big and spacious. You don’t feel as pushed on top of the table next to you as you do at other NYC spots. It also seems like a good place for groups since it’s bigger. Bread: Focaccia — Salty. Pillowy. Crispy on top. GIVEMEMORE! Appetizers: Gato spreads with pita. The pita came out warm but it was surprisingly small. The three dips were tasty but they had a spicy kick to them which I don’t like. I have a negative tolerance for spice and even though the waiter said they weren’t spicy, I found them to be. So watch out anti-spicers! We also got the 3 for 17 bar spreads. We chose the Eggplant, Seared Yellowtail and Eleven Layer Potato. All three were delicious! The eggplant may have been the best Ive had. It was prepared to perfection. The Eleven Layer Potato was simply divine. In the future I will definitely get my own 3 for 17, and I definitely think thats the move. For entrees we both got the Kale Paella. Full disclosure I have never had Paella before. The Paella was very rich and salty(almost too salty even for a salt lover). It also felt a little bit greasy. Regardless, I really enjoyed it. It was hearty and I liked the vegetable selection of kale, mushrooms and artichoke. It kind of reminded me of a breakfast, but definitely a breakfast I would be happy about. I will definitely be back, but not sure if it will be for the Kale Paella.

I may have come in with the wrong expectations or something, but did anyone feel like this was grossly overpriced?! I did not feel like what I ate was worth us paying that much for. It was just us 4 girls, and each of us paid close to $ 80 each. This did include a few drinks(maybe 5 – 6 drinks combined), but what??? I even asked the waitress if we ordered enough, and she actually suggested that we order 1 – 2 more plates. Uhm, no. I honestly don’t mind paying a lot for food, but you gotta get me to think it was worth it. The food is okay/good, but not amazing. I’ve definitely gotten wayyyyyyy better tapas from more affordable places. Alta is a good place to go if you’re looking for amazing tapas at a reasonable price!!! All the plates were extremely small. And we thought that being small Asian girls. What if we went with guys? They definitely would have left broke and yearning for McDonald’s afterwards. We started off with 3 things from their«bar» section of the menu — you can pick 3 for $ 17. When it came, I was shocked at how small it was. We got one small piece of burrata(maybe 2 inches wide), one piece of lamb that was cut into 3 pieces(each piece was probably half the size of cubed meat you would find on a kebab), and literally one small piece of artichoke heart with one quail egg and one mini piece of uni on top. This is more than $ 5 each, technically, which is RIDICULOUS. For the portion size, this should probably be an appetizer sampler made for ONE. Here’s the rest of what we got(plus prices for your reference): Roasted Octopus, sour orange, bacon, oregano –18 This was literally one octopus tentacle. one. for $ 18. kill me now. It was good, but nothing special. Crab Risotto garlic bread crumbs, Calabrian red chile –19 This packed in much more crab flavor than I thought, so I was pleasantly surprised. The plate looks large, but it was a very thin layer of risotto. We got the appetizer portion for $ 19(you can get it for entrée size for an extra $ 10). Handcut Pappardelle cremini mushrooms, rioja, black garlic, parmigiano, crème fraîche –18 Probably my favorite dish of the night — the flavors of the rioja wine are very pungent, which I liked. Might have been slightly too salty, but I loved the mushrooms. Again, we got the appetizer portion, and for another $ 11, you can get the entrée size. Honestly not sure what their portion sizes look like, but the pricing is obviously on the pricier side. Roasted Cauliflower, padron peppers, agrodolce –12 I don’t get how a side of cauliflower can be $ 12. Honestly nothing to rave about. Brussels Sprouts, pomegranates, pistachios –12 Same comment as above. Very standard brussels sprouts with a sprinkling of pomegranate seeds(which I see a lot of places do now, including Casa Mono). Kale and Wild Mushroom Paella, crispy artichokes, egg –28 This was probably another dish I would get again. But why $ 28 with no meat?!? I liked how they got a decent amount socarrat on the bottom. The egg on top excites you at first, but kind of disappears after the waiter mixes it in for you. Flavors are decent, but I’d probably prefer a more flavorful paella with more meat. This was also slightly on the drier side compared to other paellas I’ve had in other restaurants. Charred Beef, Valdeon blue cheese, brown butter, red wine, broccoli rabe-farro –37 Not worth it at all, don’t get this. They give you three thicker slices of the beef, which I thought was OK but slightly overcooked. It comes with a side of pretty flavorless farro on the side that just looks really sad. For $ 37, I expected more. The got the fig and pear crostata, which was actually pretty good! A little too sweet for me, but the crostata was nice and crispy with warm pear and fig paste on the inside. It was also topped with a refreshing ginger ice cream. Waitress was super attentive, maybe slightly TOO attentive. Kind of felt like we were being watched 24⁄7 with her constantly asking if we wanted another drink(I don’t like that kind of pressure). Would probably not come here again sadly…

Meow! I don’t know why Bobby Flay decided to name this after a cat. But I do know it’s worth the trip. The flavors are robust and bold. If you’re sensitive to salt you may have a problem(I am but I still enjoyed everything). The grilled octopus and rabbit are where it’s at. If you don’t like adventure that way they have good classics. The sweet and sour are combined in a way that makes the dish unique. I also enjoyed the parparadelle but my friend wasn’t as big a fan. It’s a classic mushroom infused parparadelle. Not as salty so perhaps that’s why it wasn’t enjoyed by my dinner companion. Overall a nice place for a meal. Sunday nights are good and comfortable if you don’t wanna deal with waiting. I’d definitely return to try other options. The waitress was all about the cauliflower, the layered potato, and the vegetarian options…

One of the many Bobby Flay restaurants that I was dying to go to! I’m fairly fond of him as a TV personality, so it’s no surprise that I’d be ecstatic to dine at one of his fine establishments in NYC. Which is why coming here earlier this year with a friend on a busy Friday night, was filled with high expectations. Especially since we had to book the reservation a month in advance for a weekend night. The food was average. There was nothing that really wowed either of us as far as flavor was concerned. For starters we went with the burrata, artichoke heart, and piquillo. I really loved the combination of the artichoke with quail egg and uni, which I found to be very well executed. The burrata was nice and creamy as you would expect it to be, and the piquillo fell a bit short of anything memorable. Crab risotto was cooked perfectly but something was lacking. Maybe it was the lack of crab in the dish that brought on a bit of disappointment. On a better note, the portion size fits the price and it was flavorful but could’ve used a dash more spice. For our entrée we shared the kale and wild mushroom paella. Beautifully presented to us in a cast iron skillet and mixed together by the server, this was the most anticipated dish I wanted to try. Meh, totally bland! Maybe the flavors got completely lost after the egg yolk was mixed in. I stared at the dish and longed to have been able to taste it with all the components separate, before the dish became a tasteless mixture. And for drinks, their Lorenzo is fantastic! Not too sweet and a very refreshing cocktail for all you gin lovers. I would definitely come back here just for cocktails! So I say the food would get about 2 stars, but gets bumped up to 3 because service was fairly quick despite how crowded it was that night. Should you come here for dinner? It’s worth trying, but for me this won’t be a spot you’ll find me in on the regular.

Yum, absolute, yum! If only Bobby Flay and Mr. Nacho himself could stop by, it would have been a 6-star. There’s no denying I’m a Flobby Bay fan, I mean c’mon Iron Chef? Grill It with Bobby Flay? Brunch with Bobby? Beat Bobby Flay?!(ok the last one I don’t really like)… but this guy seriously knows his food. We showed up about 45 mins early for our reservation and snagged a seat at the bar before our table was ready. Drinks orders: The Morgan(burbon, combier, lemon, and lillet); Wookey Jack IPA. My drink — the Morgan — was pleasantly light, I usually don’t order burbon as a drink but this was a great balance of citrus and malt, and the glass was absolutely divine. We were sat within our 45 minute time frame right against the kitchen. Encased in glass, diners are able to see right inside the organized chaos. Our waitress was knowledgable and suggested a few wines that tasted similar to a Cabernet as the menu doesn’t list their wines by type. Food: 1.) Three«Tapas» /Snacks — Buratta w/peperonata & harissa — Artichoke Heart w/quail egg & uni — Beef Crudo w/pickled fresno chiles It wasn’t enough, I’m telling you! All of the above, outstanding! My S.O. is now mildly obsessed with beef tartar so of course this was a must order. A lovely balance of spice and cold meat. The Buratta was nothing out of the extraordinary but executed very well. The artichoke heart was delicious, I absolutely love artichokes and this dish was something memorable, who knew those three ingredients work so well together. 2.) Rabbit w/fregula sarda, pine nuts, currants, crispy ham & carrot hot sauce If this doesn’t scream Mediterranean, I don’t know what will. Great addition with the crispy ham, gives the dish a little bit of texture. Rabbit cooked very well and flavors work together harmoniously. 3.) Saffron Linguine w/mussels, garlic & parsley HELLO Beautiful. You are one good looking pasta dish. A sinful mix of pasta, saffron and butter, topped with plump muscles, all garnished with a generous sprinkle of parsley. Can you tell this was my entrée? I was in love… me, the linguini, and wine. that’s all I need in life. 4.) Roasted Cauliflower w/padron peppers, agrodolce A decent side dish. Be wary of the peppers, Mr. Flay knows his spice levels, and he’s no afraid to take them up a few notches. 5.) Hazelnut Cinnamon Crema Catalana w/Crispy Cinnamon Sugar Crepes Like a Crème Brûlée but creamier, coffeer, and punches you with that hazelnut flavor. Overall Experience: Bravo!

Bobby Flay where were you? Being a fan of Bobby Flay from The Food Network Shows, I couldn’t wait to come here and try the food. I came here for a 7pm reservation for six people. As I entered was greeted by a host who offered to check my coat. I was then escorted to my table were the others were waiting. Menus were already displayed on the table. Our server gave us enough time to look over the menu and make our decisions. While waiting to place our order I couldn’t help but notice that every single table in the house was taken. It was hustling and bustling. Definitely the hip and cool people crowd, so get your cool card out and join in. We all decided to pick a few things from the menu. These are what we picked. Choose 3 options $ 17(from bar menu): Wild Mushrooms-ricotta, hazelnuts Duck Liver– cranberrier, rioja, black pepper Burrata– peperonata, harissa Appetizers Gongonzola Fonduta– Fig toast $ 14 Scrambled eggs– Almond romesco, boucheron cheese, tomato confit toast $ 14 Pizza with chorizo– mozzarella, arugula pesto $ 17 Entrees Steamed Halibut– Sicilian olives, mint, anchovy, saffron-tomato, cous cous $ 31 Charred Beef– Valdeon blue cheese brown butter, red wine, broccoli rabe-farro $ 37 Tarragon Chicken– Crispy potatoes, goat cheese, dandelion $ 28 Dessert Gelato & Sorbet $ 3/scoop There is absolutely no doubt that Bobby can cook. He shows a true culinary talent with Gato. Some of the things I would recommend to try are the Gongonzola Fonduta, Scambled eggs, pizza with chorizo and steamed halibut. Everything I tried was spectacular; the entire restaurant had a great ambiance which made for a great dining experience. I didn’t see Bobby but that didn’t stop me from keeping an eye out for him. Would have made for a great selfie.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Gato has been on my must-try list forever, and my friend and I finally took the trip up after work a couple weeks ago. Service was absolutely impeccable. Dishes were delivered efficiently but with the appropriate timing. Our main server was super knowledgeable and had a smile on her face all night. Our water glasses were refilled constantly but not in an annoying way. Also need to mention my dirty martini was one of the best I’ve ever had… Something about those olives. So my friend and I split the following dishes: — eleven layer potato — YUM — burrata — almost perfect except we both don’t like cilantro(damn Bobby flay) — chorizo crepinette — super tasty — scrambled eggs — OMG so unique and tasty — pumpkin risotto — probably the least exciting of the dishes — Brussels sprouts — perfect! — crispy potatoes — um no words — the bessttt I can’t wait to come back to try more and experience the epitome of good service!
