One of my absolute favorite restaurants. They were across from my office and I ate there literally 100 times. Their Buffalo Seitan remains one of my favorite dishes anywhere. So, so sorry to hear that they closed. I will forever remember this great spot. Sad.

Regretfully, I haven’t eaten here in 10 years. I can clearly remember the romance I had with Global Galaxy Eatery and it being one of my first introductions to hemp as a food product. Sad to learn that it has closed it’s doors.

Was able to enjoy some fat, juicy not to mention tangy grasshoppers here. First time trying grasshoppers. No, I’m not gross out. I’m Chinese. I eat anything and everything.

I actually worked here for quite awhile and I still come back whenever I’m in NYC. I always get the Love Martini… It’s passion fruit and blood orange with a toasted coconut rim. They have a pretty decent pomegranate maker’s manhattan too, although the last time we were there, the bartender made it pretty badly. The tacos are yummy and come with a healthy portion of beans, rice & guac. Also the tomatillo salsa is great too. Edamame cakes are a great start. The vegan caesar is my favorite caesar salad in the city. but not in the tri-state area. The rosemary skewered tofu is awesome too, but beware if you don’t like spicy! I have never enjoyed any of the desserts and the service has never been that great, but otherwise I like this place.

My friend and I couldn’t get into a restaurant nearby(«due to a private event»), so we came here instead. I was surprised by the experience. It felt like a diner without much light but the food was pretty outstanding. I got the blood orange martini that was tasty but a tad odd to drink with little toasted coconut flakes floating on top and the buffalo bbq seitan, was quite delicious as it doesn’t make you think seitan when you first take a bite. Plus I love BBQ sauce, happy sigh… and oh, my meal wasn’t too expensive at all.

This place is cute, tasty and has good prices. I usually get the breakfasts here, as I love their tempeh bacon. Whenever I visit my friend I request to come just for that. In addition, the tea is very good. It is one of the only restaurants I have been to that provides good loose leave tea in nice pots with your meal. Galaxy has a good selection of food for vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters. You can also get good food pretty late. Recommend to anyone to try at least once.

I was brought here several moons ago by a vegetarian date, and while we have amicably parted ways since then, the relationship between galaxy and i continues strong. i love galaxy, its my go to place in bringing new nyc-ers, friends who need a shake up from their daily routine, etc etc. the menu is eclectic and delicious. eel burger? sign me up! grasshopper tacos? nom nom nom, i say! their menu is definitely what keeps bringing me back and i can’t wait for the day until i have tried everything! the only reason why i bumped it down a star is because its so goddamn dark in there and i always get seated at a wobbly table :’(regardless, i heart galaxy.

Only had beer here. It was fine but the waitress was a bit pushy.

Used to love this place. It’s gone so downhill I’ll never go back. The food seemed like it had been sitting behind the counter for the last 14 hours and then brought to me to eat. An old favorite, the Thai’d pizza tasted like there was stinky fish in it even though it was chicken. Gross. Update: 3÷37÷11 — Ha! They’ve FINALLY closed — good riddance

This place is cute and located next to Irving Plaza. We went here b/c we heard that it’s 420-friendly. While they are supportive of the marijuana movement, smoking is not allowed. Our service and food were both quite good. I had the meatloaf and he had the cheeseburger. We ate it all. They have a full bar which is totally great as well. They have Brooklyn Brewery beer on tap too! The fantasy of being able to smoke in a restaurant in NYC was fun until is was dissolved and kind of put a damper on the experience. I will definitely go back there the next time I’m at Irving Plaza for a show.

Hi All, A surreal place that is a wonderful way to get your groove started right prior to seeing a show next door at Irving Plaza. With an excellent eclectic menu containing diverse food selections including numerous vegetarian options. Not for the fearful… great place for edible enlightenment. I have no complaints of the staff. always been great. It can get challenging for the staff during peak business, but that is understandable. Anyway…great place to go. It’s generally affordable for the area. — MSZ

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It’s inexpensive and they have the craziest variety of ingredients from all over the world. Dishes I am obsessed with: 1. Oaxacan grasshopper tacos — Tastes like crispy lemongrass. Love it. 2. Brazilian Rainforest Duck Dumpling — Best appetizer there. 3. Smoked Eel Burger beet fries — Beet fries? Delish! 4. White Cloud cocktail — tastes like white chocolate & coconut. So dreamy. The rest of the drink menu is pretty incredible as well. They have this lavender one that’s super delicate but will knock you on your ass.

I want to like this place, since there are so many veg options, but the food isn’t great. The BBQ Seitan: served room temperature; very sweet BBQ sauce, oily spinach and flavorless, dry rice, with small pieces of grilled corn. Disappointing The Vegan Caesar: Limp greens and dull dressing. At least it’s vegan. Succotash: Oily, oily, oily. I like that there are so many vegan options here, but the food to me was overly oily, served lukewarm and not that flavorful. It’s rarely croweded, though, so you’ll get a seat.

Fusion food. organic-ey tasting but yummy pad thai and a tasty refreshing wild arugula salad with red beets and goat cheese. I felt like i was in outerspace a little eating here, everything was black, including the ceiling, and there were little stars up there too. The restaurant is open to the street, which makes for ease of access when your starving and there’s a rainstorm outside(how i found Galaxy). Pleasant wait staff, clean-ish bathrooms, tasty asian-fusion food that saved me at the end of the day.

Absolutely terrible. We ordered 6 entrees for 6 people. All 6 of them were awful, and we spent the rest of the night with severe stomach pains. Way to ruin the night, galaxy. This is diner /hospital quality food. It will make you sick.

About twenty minutes before my maiden voyage into all that is Galaxy Global Eatery, my bestie and her beau and I were treated to the most ridiculous cab ride short of Cash Cab. We were chauffeured throughout the streets of New York City listening to «Susudio» by Phil Collins with the bass turned way up, and with a bumpin’ soundsystem that should never, ever be put in a Crown Victoria. As «Happy Cabbie», as he preferred us to call him, dropped us off at Galaxy, he told us all to make the night memorable and to remember to keep it real. I wasn’t sure about my friends, but it was hard to shake Phil Collins’ 80s hits from running through my head for some time thereafter. If that’s not keeping it real, I don’t know what is. As one would imagine, I was still pretty dazed from the Happy Cabbie experience that by the time I walked into the Galaxy, I almost didn’t notice that it was darker inside than it was outside. The place should invest in some lights, if only so first-timers and those unfamiliar with the menu could read what’s on there. Because if you are looking for your standard NYC-area diner fare, you are not going to find that here. Instead, you are going to find amalgamations of ordinary meets extraordinary, average turned spiffy, and flattering fakes done well. A vegetarian can finally go somewhere with a non-veggie and find that each can order lots from the menu and not feel like they’re confined to one tiny section or pigeonholed into just one type of food to order. I tried some yucca fries, and was surprised by how delicious they were, considering that even after someone explained to me what they were, I still couldn’t figure it out. And I was thrilled that when I ordered the turkey burger, that it did not come with a roll or bread(just how I like it). And my sauteed spinach and garlic was even better than that. But the real hit in the Galaxy is their drink menu. Maybe all the hemp in the place has gotten to the servers, but my, those are some strong drinks! Even if you’re not a fan of the heady menu, you’d be hard-pressed to find something less than wonderful about the drinks. Even if they have funny names like«White Cloud» or «G-Spot». Fun factoid: The folks at Galaxy have their own hemp cookbook and it’s sold at the store and on places like Amazon, too. Cooking with hemp… who knew?

The thai’d pizza is most excellent – far more than an appetizer. It is easily a meal and a bit. I have also enjoyed the fried shrimp, and I have dined with fans of the meatloaf and many other options. While the prices are not cheap, the quality is consistant and the drinks are STRONG. Did I mention strong? Yeah. They are. Check this place out, especially if you are a vegetarian or vegan or just plain picky! There are a few dozen options and on my three visits all diners felt satified with the experience!

You can make rope with it, or smoke it, and at Galaxy, eat it. Hemp — its part of what’s on Galaxy’s truly eco-friendly(relationship with an upstate organic farm) and innovative menu I’ve enjoyed for years. Originally a skeptic brought here by a close friend who raved on, the Eel Burger & Beet Fries are two standards here that are *so* good, and do save room for dessert. Once upon a time a «Moon Beam» martini was on the cocktail menu, no longer — the«White Cloud» has been a great replacement as you look up and enjoy the star studded ceiling that’s illuminated and twinkles, adding to the lounge hangout feel crossed with a 50’s diner seating ambiance at the edges.

This place looks like a generic American diner, but has an edge to it. For one thing, they serve their tea in lovely, tiny black kettles; for another, they have more than a few vegan options. We had tofu tacos which can be made vegan if you omit the tartar sauce. I wasn’t blown away by these; the tofu was bland, as it had no seasoning, and the pico de gallo was weak. We also had the BBQ seitan over rice, which was okay, but I thought the BBQ sauce was generic and tasted sugary and more ketchup-esque. I think either a chili garlic sauce or a marinara sauce would have been better. The service was extremely friendly and helpful; they had no issues with us asking questions about ingredients and checking on what’s vegan and what’s not(they even made sure that the tortilla for the taco was vegan). Galaxy Global Eatery is a decent joint if there are no other options, but for brunch, I’d rather go to Sacred Chow.

You know when you go to a chinese restaurant and joke with your friends about whether the chicken you’re eating is really chicken, and not some starved cat off the streets? Well, turns out that«joke» is a joke no more, at the Galaxy Global Eatery. Went there with my sister this summer, and had a chicken/broccoli dish, since I was feeling more on the healthy side that night. The meal came out. I tasted the chicken. Barf. It tasted like some sort of animal that got the flu and then died in a dumpster. I had my sister try it and she started laughing uncontrollably. I mean, this place has a really cool vibe, they claim to be vegetarian and healthy, but how the heck was THAT healthy? Don’t think I’ll go back there, unless it’s out of sheer curiosity to see if the chicken really is chicken.
