I bought 50 dumplings for 10 dollars. There is nothing fancy about this place but definitely recommend it. It taste delicious and a very affordable prices. The area is located in china town and you can also Walk around to see other cuisines and authentic Chinese stores and eatery. To explain the taste of the dumplings, it’s doughy texture on the outside. Not too doughy and the inside filling is just the right amount for the structure of the dumplings. I would highly recommend this place. Only Warning is that this place only accept cash, but I revisited twice in 1 day because it we just so worth it!

I ordered 20 fried dumplings, she threw what she had into 2 containers, I asked if that was 20, she said yes, when I went to pour sriracha(which was extremely watered-down) and black vinegar(which was extremely watered-down), I counted only 16, so I went to her and said they were only 16, she opened the containers and started slinging the dumplings around using her ungloved hands with which she had just counted the 4 dollar bills I had just given her, and she also counted out-loud until she also reached 16, then she slammed the container shut and shouted TWENTYTHEYSTUCKTOGETHER and walked away furiously, ignoring me… So she stole from me and lied to me then fled the scene — and I will never be returning. I’d been coming here for ages, and had recommended it to many people over the ages, but all that has now changed. Ugh.

Just walked down the street and saw this place. 5 for $ 1. And they were good. Great deal. Good dumplings.

These are just good dumplings and pork buns. No frills. 1 old lady working here. Doesn’t let you set in the store. Doesn’t take anything other than cash. She must have been making dumplings everyday for 20+ years. Dumplings are good and cheap. 5 for $ 1 Pork buns are 4 for $ 1. The pork buns are just a meatier, baked version of the dumplings Great for a quick snack on the go.

This place is awesome. All the hater reviews are just typical group think bs – you wankers. Cheap fried dumplings made fast and fresh. 5 for $ 1 is a great deal in a city where great deals are rare and getting rarer. The dumplings themselves are crispy, but a bit on the greasy side. Flavor is good but on the mild side. Whatever, they’re fried dumplings 5 for a dollar. I’ll take 100! There’s no customer service to speak of. In fact, the lady was kinda mean. Whatever. Get over it, you babies. So she doesn’t wipe your mouth for you. The dumplings are tasty as hell. Hole in the wall, cheap as hell fried dumplings that are tasty and fast? Yes please. You haters can go to Guy Fieri’s or some such shit.

Yes, I understand that 5 dumplings for $ 1 is an amazing deal, but I don’t believe in ever sacrificing quality of food for price. It all started so great because my friend remembered this place from when he was younger, and he wanted to go for the nostalgia. It’s a hole in the wall in some back alley with a rude lady manning the counter and grill. She got significantly nicer when I started talking to her in Chinese, but she still kept trying to get me to buy more than the 40 dumplings I ordered. I told her to chill out(in that joking way), and I guess she felt bad since she didn’t charge us for soda even though she acknowledged me taking it out from the fridge. The dumplings were really greasy for my taste, but in a way that some people like so I can understand why they do it like that. My biggest problem was how little filling was in each wrapper. They were these flaccid little dumplings that were probably less than a third filled. I can get behind my meal that ended up costing around $ 5 for my part, but I’ll probably never go here again.

Back in the days when I was in Chinese School on Mott Street, I used to come here from time to time cause the dumplings were cheap and they were pretty good(about 10 years ago). I took my friend here because she just moved in the neighborhood and I can honestly say that times have changed and I’m no longer a fan of this place for the following reasons: 1) My friend and I had dinner already but we were both craving for dumplings. I asked if we can just get 1 order of dumplings(5 for $ 1). The lady kept trying to sell me 10 dumplings and I said no thanks. She finally gave in and sold me $ 1 worth but was not happy doing so. She didn’t even have to cook it, these were just the leftovers before closing. 2) I tried grabbing another fork for my friend and the lady yelled at me and snatched the utensil container away from me. Seriously… you’re going to be that cheap? 3) We kept in mind that they were closing soon so we wanted to eat as fast as we could and made sure to clean up after ourselves. As I was eating my first dumpling, she kept interrupting and kept yelling at us in her broken English to «Hurry up, Throw, Go outside!». I was already getting annoyed… I mean… C’mon lady… it’s 5 dumplings and 2 people are eating it. Give us 2 minutes. 4) Quality has gone down the toilet for this place. These were greasy and bland. There are far better dumplings places in town. 5) I get that I don’t look Chinese, but I don’t think anyone should ever speak badly about their customers in front of them. In fact, I’m fluent in Chinese. Even so, people who aren’t Chinese do understand the language nowadays.

How can you go wrong with $ 1 for a plate of fried dumplings? I’ve had way better, but then I’ve always paid more than $ 1 for 5. You get what you pay for. Sauces are watered down too, but, who cares? $ 5 to take 30 frozen dumplings home. You won’t regret it.

K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple… Stupid. A stunningly curt, albeit quite an efficient axiom to live by… and one that is encapsulated so effectively by fried dumpling. Heck, even the name of the damn place is pretty much the name of one of their only menu items; on a legal note, I’m sure this joint has no intention of trademarking the«Fried Dumpling» moniker… if they do however, they’re(likely) sh*t outta luck. If you’re so curious as to the(legal) intellectual property implications that the very simple title of the establishment generates in regards to registered trademarking, feel free to DM me(I charge by the hour). I had but a $ 10 spot in my wallet and needed something quick and cheap as hell(I needed the extra time and $$$ to pick up a «thank you» card and postage). I was in the southern portion of Chinatown, so the options down there are in no short supply; buns, dumplings, egg tarts, sandwiches… the possibilities are staggering. What’s even more staggering was chancing upon this place; I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that the value to quantity to quality ratio at this joint is just downright ridiculous… the craziest I’ve seen in the City these past few years. A brow raising statement for sure, but allow me to make my case. This may be the last dumpling shack in Manhattan that hasn’t been affected by inflation. Look to reviews circa 2009 of your Prosperities, Tasties, and Vanessas… $ 1 for 4 or 5 dumprings(sp). Now it’s practically industry standard that a buck and a quarter(still pretty damn reasonable) can buy you four or five dumplings at one of the aforementioned establishments. Did Fried Dumpling bend to the pressure of the signs and the times, allowing other establishments, hence the market, dictate their price point for their product??? I say thee«Nay!» Both fried menu items of the pork variety(the only variety… more on that in a bit) will cost you one buck: $ 1 for 5 fried dumplings, or $ 1 for 4 fried pork buns. The pork bun option would easily run you $ 1.50 for three at any of the other dumpling spots(that offer them) which are mentioned in this paragraph. The selection is super scant, literally the only options are the two I mentioned in the previous paragraph. Some of you may be booing/hissing at the prospect of giving a glowing review to a spot that serves just«good» dumplings as opposed to «end-all-be-all fantastic» kind of dumplings… but the value is just too amazing for me to ignore. And let’s face it, one typically orders the standard option 1(pork and chive dumplings) by the bucketful almost exclusively at the other dumpling spots mentioned in this review. It should also be mentioned that the available fare at this spot is super solid. A lot more texture, even a crispiness, from the skins of the dumplings and buns… and the customer isn’t short changed on the filling; it’s tasty on the inside and there’s lots of meat in it. The aesthetics of the place are super charming as well, perhaps my favorite set up out of all the dumpling spots I’ve been to. Mosco Street… even a seasoned New Yorker would be hard-pressed to tell you where that exactly is. Well, it’s a small narrow corridor of a public thoroughfare, with a few hole in the wall shops, and Fried Dumpling can be found right in the heart of it. Very quaint and picturesque by nature, with Fried Dumpling practicing an open veranda kind of entrance, at least during the summer months; I suppose that it can get mega hot for the two older ladies in there, assembling and frying up buns and dumplings. All in all, this place is worth a spot in your rogues gallery of cheap quality bites in the great city of New York. Heck, it may even have a shot at the #1 spot! Perhaps a few more(guaranteed) visits from me before I make such a bold judgment.

Giving this store 3 stars out of generosity. Walked in there at around 11:30 and I was not greeted or anything. The woman kept talking to someone either in the kitchen or on her phone. After nearly 3 minutes, I ordered 3 $ worth of dumplings which was 15 but came home with 16. So oh well haha. I wouldn’t come back tho since the dumplings are small.

I found this place from a business insider article about cheap eats in Chinatown. So I decided to give it a try, I mean it was a dollar for five what can I lose. Turned out this was the worst dumplings I have ever had. The skin was very dry and hard and the meet was not juicy at all. Definitely go to Prosperity Dumpling if you have a craving. This is the last time I take any advice from Business Insider about food.

SOOOCHEAP. but with cheap food comes a cost(heh). The quality is lacking and the taste is definitely boring. It’s okay and will be okay but the dumplings were old, they have been on the heat for hours, the ladies were rude and the place isn’t really all the big. It’s okay but the dumplings could’ve been more flavorful. BUT if you’re on a budget and got a dollar or two to be satisfied, this is the place to go!

I stumbled upon this place a few years ago while wandering aimlessly through Chinatown. Come to fried dumpling for a quick cheap meal. Actually, just come even if you’re not hungry. It’s a total hole in the wall, but you can get 5 dumplings for a dollar. The fried pork buns are also only a dollar, and they’re better than the dumplings. The service and cleanliness are questionable, but what places in Chinatown actually have great hygiene and service? Just try it out if you happen to be walking by. You can afford a dollar lol.

Came here with a friend after he was craving dumplings. I don’t know why we settled for this place and not Tasty’s Dumplings around the corner. The service and food in general was horrible. The woman at the counter did not seem to speak any English whatsoever. I originally ordered he fried pork buns but ended up with friend dumplings instead. The dumplings were very dry and small. Not to mention it has handed to me in a container that was ripped in half. What a way to save money. As we were done and were about to leave, my friend asked for napkins. He was then told by the lady in a very rude tone to «Wait» and she later literally handed him one napkin. This place used to be better. I don’t know what happened. Looks like I won’t be coming here anymore.

When you walk by it, you might think: it’s on shady little Mosco street and it’s probably very dirty. You might never think that this place literally has the best dumplings in all of Chinatown — and all the locals know it, so tourists are too! There are so many things you can get for a dollar in Chinatown. All it takes is a dollar, a dollar a dream, or in this case — a dollar for five dumplings. And yes, the fried, greasy kind. You can also buy these dumplings to go, frozen, $ 5 for about 30 I believe(a cheaper deal to make at home!).

I used to like coming here and came here often as they usually made perhaps the best $ 1 dumplings in Chinatown but one day the boss lady purposely ripped me off and after that I stopped coming here. They water down the vinegar and hotsauce and it is a small place and some of the patrons on are the vulgar/rude side just like the boss lady. Still one extra star because they make the best fried dumplings in Chinatown.

After years of frequenting this spot, I think it is time that I write a review. Five or six dumplings for $ 1? Sounds too good to be true but it’s not. This place always has good tasting dumplings and they serve it fast. I’ve always had an appreciation for small hole-in-the-wall spots. It’s an indication of the hardworking immigrant experience. Every dumpling spot has it’s own flavor. This spot’s dumplings are a little crunchier and more chewy than other spots. The only bad thing is that some people may not like how the dumplings tend to stick to each other. But these are budget dumplings so you would be a fool to complain. Respect.

$ 1 for 5 dumplings. I don’t think that in terms of price, quality and taste you could expect much more. Love the watered down hot sauce and soy/vinegar that’s on the counter. This place is a terrific deal. I did notice that the lady used a gloved hand to grab some money from me and went back to cooking. Hopefully whatever germs get in dumplings burn off on the hot greasy stove. Germaphobes, I would advise you to take a Xanax before eating here or just trust that the human body is a wonderful machine that is well evolved to fight germs.
