Jack is a very good guitar teacher. He is very talented, knowledgeable and a friendly person. He has played and learned from a lot of the greats(Leo Kottke, Chet Atkins, John Hurt). He teaches everybody from beginners to more advanced guitarists and everything in between. He introduced me to rag time and blues style finger picking and we are progressing well. I highly recommend lessons with Jack. In my 15 years of playing, I have not found a better teacher.

Jack was a fantastic banjo teacher. I picked up a banjo last summer, started using books to try to learn it. After a couple months I realized I was going nowhere… I found Jack online and started taking lessons with him. I was with Jack for about 10 months, and he was an amazing teacher! I went from being able to play about half of a song, incorrectly I might add, to over 40 different bluegrass standards. He’s patient, and really caters his lessons to each student’s skill level to make sure he’s bring them along at the right pace. Unfortunately I’ve relocated so I’m not longer with him. However, regardless of instrument and skill level, Jack is extremely helpful. Also, his rate is super affordable($ 35 per half hour lesson) and he’s very flexible with his schedule as well. If you’re thinking about learning the guitar or banjo, you’ve found the right teacher!

I was looking for fun, inexpensive music lessons compared to the violin and piano. I found Jack’s website online, emailed him about lessons and immediately received a friendly email back. Jack is responsive, patient, and dedicated to his students. I’ve taken his lessons for the past 9 months and appreciate the 30 minute break he provides from my crazy workday! Each lesson is $ 35(cash) — not only do you actually learn how to play the banjo, you also get conversations about ping pong, chess, and anything else you can imagine.
