Store is adequate, but not many things go on special and some of the prices are slightly overpriced for this neighborhood. The vegetables are not very fresh, nor impressive. You have to check the expiration dates, some are overdue and considered spoiled, happened to me on a few occasion with canned, packaged and fresh food that are perishable. Aisles are cluttered and cramped. There seems to always be boxes blocking the aisles at all hours and making it difficult to select food from the shelves. I only go here as a quick go-to market. Otherwise, I avoid this place and go elsewhere to buy food for the week, that is further away. Staff is friendly, but the guys at the end of the checkout counter are not employees of Fine Fare & expect a tip $, hovering over your food to pack it up before it goes through the checkout stand. When I tell them I am bagging my own groceries, especially when it’s only a few items or just 1 item purchased, it gets to be uncomfortable and quite annoying.

This is my neighborhood grocery store so I come here often. The people working there are always friendly and the prices are always more reasonable than other stores. My problem with this particular store is the limited selection and the fact that they generally don’t pay attention to the perishable nature of their items. I’ve walked out of there a couple of times with things that expire that day(at 9:00pm that night)! or even before then. I would just recommend everyone coming here be aware and look at every code date.

This Fine Fare is the grocery store I go for sales. They have tremendous sales compared to Gristedes a few blocks away. They usually have affordable produce, yet, it isn’t always the best of quality. They do not wrap their meats up well and it leaks everywhere(BIGHEALTHHAZARD!!) The only HUGE problem I have with them is that: 1. They do not ALWAYS give you the sale stated on the advertisements. I always pick up the Sunday paper just to see the sales available. In the catalog, it stated their was a10lb cat litter on sale for $ 5.00. I went to go purchase it but because the picture, which was probably not even accurate, showed a bag, while I were holding a box… mind you– same brand, same weight, wording down to the LETTER, but because it didn’t match the PICTURE, not the description, they did not honor the sale. The mangers are not very helpful either and they entire team have terrible customer service skills. The bag boys have no clue how to bag groceries properly either. I understand that it is a Spanish speaking neighborhood, but at the least, understand how to speak English enough to do your job. Honestly, I would not go here if it weren’t for the ridiculously low prices.

Washington Heights’ local supermarket that hones a relatively good stock of fresh produce, fruits and perishable goodies. Aisles are organized without the floor plastered with merchandise to clutter customer’s shopping experience. The layout is easily to locate what is on one’s shopping list to stock for the week’s supply of food or entertain guests for an evening of merriment. Price is reasonable, but pricey on select items like most supermarkets. Staff is cordial when ringing up customers. This Fine Fare Supermarket is conveniently located adjacent to the 1 train at 191st Street Station.

What a dump. The only good things I can say about it is that it is a relatively large grocery store for the area and most of the employees are very friendly. The produce is usually a disappointment and too often sale prices are not honored. Somehow, this store manages to get away with making misprints the customers’ problem and not their own. Fine Fare corporate should employ a few mystery shoppers before they get hit with a law-suit.

This is my usual go-to for groceries. They were cheaper back in the day before they remodeled to compete/steal business from Gristede’s. But some items haven’t gone up that much in price. And the new layout is far superior to the one before. There are some VERYPHYNE staffers to help you enjoy the ambiance of your shopping experience ;-) And they try to keep it cleaner these days, post-remodel. They usually have really good sales. And they’ll often drop circulars on local apt building steps(though it’s sporadic as to when they do this service). They did recently do a mandatory bag check, which I understand, though it’s somewhat annoying when you don’t want to drop your bag since you’ll only be inside for a few minutes, and they often have their bag check guy doubling some other duty… so you some times have to wait a bit to get your bag(s) back. But the new deli counter is nice, as is the prepared fresh food/hummus area. And the sales do abound!
