ESPO’s Creative Outlet/Icy Signs

He had me at «Open your eyes I see the sunrise.» And then I opened my eyes on the blue line of the Philadelphia subway system and realized murals were all around me. Their bold graphic images, bright colors, and messages of unwavering love were a welcome respite from the indigent west Philadelphia community. I instantly fell in love with ESPO’s love letter to Philadelphia for its beauty and extraordinary ability to illuminate the simple truths behind a complicated emotion.
The small Brooklyn studio, though not a destination in itself, is a worthwhile stop if you’re in the neighborhood. You can see larger works in progress, purchase limited edition signed and numbered prints, and chat with the fun and friendly artists who work there. I had my eye on a specific print, a reproduction of my very favorite mural that was not for sale as it was the last copy in existence, and they went to extra lengths to make it possible for me to take it home. Kudos, gentleman! Keep spreading the love.

I love everything about this place. It’s so nice to see art in an artist’s studio rather than a gallery. Everything about the space is friendly, inviting and cool. Our visit was completely inspiring. Thanks for being awesome Icy Signs!
