I can’t believe that I already have not reviewed Empanadas, Son! For a late night empanadas fix, this place is great because it’s open really late. I particularly like the carne, capresse, chicken curry, guava, and apple pie empanadas. Washing down the empanadas with yerba mate also is wonderful.

Excellent first visit. Had the verdura and French onion, both delicious. Kids had caprese and grilled cheese, which they loved. Apple pie and Nutella were both hits too. Service was good. Looking forward to trying the soup.

We ordered ~30 empanadas for a small party we were throwing at our apartment. The staff was so helpful on the phone talking us through which empanadas to select(and there are so many fun and creative flavors — including dessert ones with guava and Nutella). The owner’s mom is argentinian and he lived there for a few years. The delivery arrived just 15 minutes after we’d asked for(but we’d built in some buffer time based on other reviews), and the food was a major hit! We were worried they’d be cold, but they sent them ready to bake so we just popped them in the oven for 5 – 7 minutes at 350 degrees and it was like we had made them fresh at our place. Not one empanada was left the next day — great finger food that fed a party of 12 for only $ 120. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a larger empanada order. My favorites were the beef burgundy, French onion fugazetta, and the chicken curry. Try the free sauce per every two empanadas you order deal, and the buy 5 empanadas get a sixth free deal.

These guys are chillers. They were friendly and gave us a free drink with our order. Not to mention the food is awesome. French onion fugazetta was out of this world and the soups are great too! Definitely my favorite spot in the neighborhood.

I have to update my previous review. The owners offered an opportunity to come back in and give Empanadas Son! another chance. The Manager, Saul, was really friendly and kind. Said they were dedicated to making their customers happy. So My man and I tried 6 empanadas: Chicken Curry, Banana, Nutella, Guava, Apple Pie, Grilled Cheese and Ham & Cheese. Wow! What a difference a few months makes. The bread was doughy and cooked to perfection. The Nutella one was insane: I’ll be back for more of those… And soon! The grilled cheese and Chicken Curry were delish too. I’m so glad I gave this spot another try. Our meal was delicious and it’s so nice to see such warm customer service from a reasonably priced restaurant in the neighborhood. Thank you Tara, Saul and Empanadas Son!

Went to this place twice in one night while at a show at the Delancey. Very good combinations and made fresh.

I really wanted to like this place, but customer service is important to me. The young lady that took my credit card ripped it out of my hand. Just awful! This shitty behavior ruined my experience. The empanadas tasted pretty good I had the beef empanada that has a decent amount of flavor. My girlfriend had the ham and cheese which also tasted pretty good. So the food is pretty good.

Ran out of certain empanadas on a rainy Saturday night and had to switch half of them on me. Took over an hour to deliver. I only got to try two of the empanadas types as a result. In summary, food is alright but order delivery only if you like to live dangerously with your food and time.

The empanadas, as many have mentioned below, are fine. Best as a late-night option, as daytime many more filling and affordable options are available. This review is more about the employees and the coffee. I sometimes stop in here on my way to the train, as it should be the best coffee on the street. Their cold brew is good, and on tap, though they’ve had some problems with the pressure in the tap on occasion. Don’t come in a hurry. No one is in a hurry in there. Once someone had made the simple syrup with salt, and I had to throw out my coffee. They kindly poured me a new one. The woman working said that she had tasted the syrup earlier and wondered if something was off. I couldn’t understand why she would have left it for guests to use if she knew something was wrong. Their sign says that they offer drip coffee, which I prefer to espresso. I didn’t see any drip setup, so I asked if they offered it. They said yes, and I ordered a large. The woman behind the counter proceeded to walk over to the espresso machine and pack a single shot for my large cup. I was about to get a huge single americano. I stopped her and asked for a refund, which is the only time I’ve ever done that. Everyone is nice enough, but the employees are below and clearly have no coffee knowledge or training at all– even to know the difference between drip and espresso– and until that’s fixed, they shouldn’t be serving coffee. Which is too bad, because my other options are Dunkin Donuts and 7 – 11.

They have a decent selection of empandas. Tried the mushroom and chicken curry empanadas. The mushroom one was good but the chicken curry was pretty dry. I do not like how they do not give sauces for free and can only get ONE free sauce if you buy 2 empanadas… The place is also very, very tiny. not good for groups.

The best thing about Empanadas, Son! is that they are open late. With other late night options including a dingy McDonald’s and truly abominable pizza and Chinese, this is a fantastic way to soak up a few too many cocktails. Come during the day, however, and you’re likely to be less impressed. This is a dull argument to make in New York, but they are too expensive for the size and quality of what’s on offer. One new empanada with sauce is $ 4.50. Two blocks south in Chinatown that is the price of a cha siu fan with tons of pork, vegetables and enough rice for two meals. And you aren’t paying for ambiance, because there’s barely any seating inside. The carne is a nice version of the classic Argentine empanada. The french onion is quite nice as well. The beef empanada on the«modern» side of the menu didn’t really work at all — it was heavy without much flavor. It’s fine, but certainly doesn’t hold a candle to the great empanadas available in Argentina or even elsewhere in the city.

I’m in love with this place. The loaded potato empanada is divine, and don’t even get me started on all the dessert ones. They also sell yerba mate, which makes the whole Argentine vibe feel even more authentic. Best empanadas I’ve had this side of the equator.

Great late-night affordable(but not super cheap) food with good, friendly service. Their«traditional» empanadas are not super authentic but still taste pretty damn good when you’re craving a pocket of savory hot meat. I suggest the pollo w/chimichurri sauce. I will definitely be back to try the desert empanadas!

I find it a bit weird that a lot of the reviews so far are from people outside of the are and most of them have barely any reviews. If this is what I think this is, don’t start off on the wrong foot here. If it isn’t, just a few random thoughts. They didn’t give me a stamp card but oh well. Not like I pass this area weekly/bi-weekly. Wait… Was there late. Had a mushroom empanada. The outside was piping hot but the inside was pretty cool. It was very refreshing though and the flavor was solid. Also, the owner or one of the guys working there noted to someone else who seeemd to know him that that they tried to use duck in an empanada but noticed that the duck would get too dry which makes sense. Maybe pair it with some type of dried fruit or make it more into a paste(such as rillete as you guys have french style empanadas already. Would have gotten the burgundy but they were out(it was quite late.) Solid stuff. I hope they do well. Nice people.

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. New school is definitely better than old school.(Sorry to all the oldies that read this) Made my order and got my stamp card by the register to start racking up the benefits which is an order of 6 empanadas from the old school menu after about a hundred dollars spent. I ordered empanadas from both menus to get a Anyways, I tried afew empanadas. The two that’s still on my mind are the beef burgandy and ratatouille. The beef was not chewy in kinda cubed shapes which I loved and was not salty and just savory. The ratatouile which had squash, eggplant, red bell pepper, onion, garlic, herbs d’provence was perfect executed. The second tier ones to me were the curry chicken, pollo empanada, smores. They were all good but not good enough for me to order again. The curry one could use alot more curry in it and the smores was just too nutella ish for me and the pollo … well the pollo was just too oldschool for my liking. I wish the empanadas had some crunch to them as maybe I would have enjoyed the second tier ones better but this is a healthier alternative I guess.

Omg! Bumped into this place last week and they had just opened! The place is cozy like the coolest looking pizza shop you can find. But it’s empanadas. And they are some classy goods. They have really creative ingredients. But the empanadas are only $ 3 and they’re flaky and warm and perfect. I had the caprese and the open faced goat cheese arugula. I don’t know who these people are but between the graffiti on the walls and the instant coffee ONDRAFT(for real?), I think I’m in love. Did I mention one of the owners has pink and purple rainbow hair? And is covered in beautiful tattoos and an even lovelier smile. I’m into this spot, and you should be too.

This little cute Empanada Spot is right across the Williamsburg bridge on Delancey. The place is small, there are about 5 stools, but empanadas are perfect on the go snacks so no worries. They play reggae jams which gives a relaxed chill vibe to the place along with the cool art on the walls. Make sure to peep that . Now for the empanadas they were delicious. Always baked and never fried so they don’t feel oily or heavy when you eat them which is great. They have all sorts of flavors to pick from which also includes desserts one on the menu. I recommend the cheese and guava one, you will love it. When I went they had run out of the chicken one so I didnt get a chance to try that one but the beef(Carne) was great very meaty just how i like it. I also enjoyed the ham and cheese, its not your traditional hispanic flavor/taste of empanadas but regardless they are delicious. The onion and cheese(Fugazetta) is one of the vegetarian empanadas on the menu. It was an interesting taste definitely give it a try guys. I will def be coming back for some more empanadas to gobble up.

This place is brand new, so brand new today was their first day! I had the chicken empanada and the s’mores one as a dessert. They were amazing! Can’t wait to try them all. The owners are young, motivated and have a real personal attachment and passion for the product they are serving you. Plus great taste in music as you wait. Great for a quick, affordable and satisfying bite before heading out with friends in the neighborhood. Same applies as a great way to sober up on the way home! ;)
