Elite Event: Ted’s Montana Grill

This probably lands in my Top 5, if not Top 2, favorite Unilocal Elite events! It was a full sit down dinner service with many courses. I knew we were in for a good night when I tried the drinks. The menu included red and white wine, red and white sangria, and fresh lemonade. The sangria was to die for! (Or maybe I was too many in to tell the difference, but same thing, right?)
Then the food starts flowing and man does it flow! I have no idea how the staff pulled this off for ~100 Unilocalers. The crab cake was probably my favorite, though the other appetizers were also great (I’m looking at you Trout Dip, Southwest Corn, and Fresh-​Cut Fries, mmm). I also really enjoyed the Ted’s Filet. Unfortunately, the sliders and the salmon were overcooked at our table — but we expected that there might be a little inconsistency with the large party and all. By the time we got to dessert, half our table was settling into food coma and crawling their way out the door. But I’m glad we stayed for the brownies and got cookies to go!
Overall, great event — kudos to Jando and Ruggy for making it happen and the staff at Ted’s Montana Grill!

All around amazing human being Lori L. brought me as her plus one and even if she never reads this review, she did me a sincere kindness as she had met me only the night before. The company at this even was 17 stars (obviously, because I was there) but the food was without a doubt memorable to interesting.
Ted Turner has an affinity for buffalo meat and I am able to tell such because he owns this restaurant. I have never been to a Unilocal Elite sit-​down dinner, so I was lucky that Lori invited me to this, since addition to full food courses, I was able to spend quality time with a lot of my friends.
We had maybe a three-​hour dinner for what looked like a hundred plus Unilocalers. Whether the staff was just unprepared for such an onslaught I do not know, but service was slow in the beginning and I found myself doing more talking than eating.
The food was mostly hit with very few misses. The crab cake was some of the freshest, light and well-​seasoned I have had but the buffalo slider was dry while the buffalo meat was cooked unevenly for most people on the table. I lucked out and had meat that was more medium rare than medium. Rare was just straight up purple, sorry Mr. Buffalo.
The sangria was surprisingly credible while the salmon, southwestern corn and fresh cut fries were all well above average. We were also sent home with fresh-​baked cookies, in case six rounds of food was not enough. Thank you Ruggy and Jando, you will never see this, but I’m the President of your fan club. Do not be scared, let it happen.

This was an AMAZING Elite event. It was a sit down meals timed with different courses– how FANCY! Trout dip/​chips, crab cakes, fresh sauteed corn, onion rings, bison sliders, steak and salmon– oh my! I felt so stuffed– it was like eating at a wedding. It was nice sitting at big tables to meet other Unilocal members. The food was delicious and fresh. I loved the fresh corn sauteed with jalapeño– sweet and spicy. The drinks were wonderfully paired with red/​white wine or red/​white sangria and lemonade. The wait staff was amazing/​tentative and thoughtful– constantly checking on us to make sure we were all set. Great steakhouse fare with steakhouse décor (bison head on the wall). Totally great for anyone who enjoys a great steak especially since the specialty here is bison meat. Thank you so much Jando and Ruggy for organizing this amazing Elite event that was fun in every way ;) One of the BEST Elite events ever!

Here I am, late with my review as I was late to the event. I was seated at the ‘back of the bus’ kids table with the other tardy Unilocalers.
I missed the first course, so I started with the crab cake. It was mostly all crab meat — no sad fillers here. The food was served in «small» portions but I ended up getting stuffed to the gills. I had to get up and walk around and almost took a nap on that cool bench in the ladies room.
The red meat was amazing. That slider? I mean, anything with an American flag stuck in it is gonna be good, right? ‘MURCA Fck YEA! The filet was still mooing (do bison moo?), which is just how I like it.
The food, drinks and company were on fleek (Amanda, did I say that right?)

Always love to learn new stuff. Ted’s is owned by Ted Turner and it’s the only one in nyc! They specialize in Bison, but given the location in midtown, they have a wide array of items on their menu.
This was a sit down event (not expecting that!). I would say there were 60+ Unilocalers here, so a big crowd.
There was a selection of sangria, wines and lemonade. The special Unilocal menu consisted of: Smoked trout dip, corn, Beef and Bison Sliders, Cedar plank salmon, bison filet, fresh cut fries and brownies.
My favorites were the crab cake, the salmon and the bison filet. I initially didn’t like the bison because it was rare, thankfully another Unilocaler (thanks stacy!) switched with me and hers was medium.
The services was slow initially, I don’t think they had extra staff for the influx of hungry Unilocalers. Once the rest of the restaurant wasn’t so busy, things started to come out at a faster pace. The event was supposed to be 2hrs, but they kept it going an extra 30 min, which was nice.
Had a lot of fun at my table and overall a great night. Thanks to Ruggy and Jando for the event… and to the staff at Ted’s for stuffing us with all that great food!

Great way to celebrate my birthday!!!
This is the first time that I see that is a sit down event; I was sitting down with old Unilocalers friends (Kevin, Allison, Lori, Eva, Phil, Stacy, Hansel, Orlan, Spencer, Monica and some new faces).
The first thing that happen when we sit down was that our waitress went around the table asking for drinks; I ask for a recommendation and she recommends the Sun River Sangria White; and boy it was a good choice. I love the way that it taste, I also tasted the Red one but I do not liked it as much as the white.
Lot stuffs were served in this event and all plates were super delicious;
Smoked trout dip: Had a good taste, great way to start the night after the Sangria.
Southwest Corn: The thing I love the most about this disk is that you can feel the spicy at the end and each bite.
Biscuit Sliders Topped with Onion Rings and the USA flag on top: Giving a bit of patriotism to the event, I loved this detail and more being close to the 4^th of July, the taste was magnificent both the slider and the onion ring.
Fresh-​Cut, Gluten-​Free Fries: I can say that had just the right amount of salt and were cooked to perfection
ST. Phillips Island Crab Cake: holly cow this was my second favorite disk with guacamole, this touch was just perfect.
Cedar Plank Salon: I am not a big fan of salon but I have to say this one of the best I had eaten in a while.
Ted’s Filet: This and the crab are the reason that I am coming back for a nice brunch one this day. This was cook just perfect.
The dessert was a bit dry … I didn’t like it that much.

Man, Unilocal rarely does real sit down full dinners but when they do it’s a fantastic treat!
They had a specific menu prepared just for this Unilocal dinner event. Ohhh Yeahhh! We special!
Selection of wines, sangria, and lemonade that we could drink as much as we wanted. Smoked trout dip, Southwest corn, Salt & Pepper onion rings, Fresh Cut fries, Crab Cake, Beef & Bison Sliders, Cedar Plank Salmon, Bison Filet, and Brownies for dessert topped with ice cream.
My fat gluttonous ass approved! I really enjoyed the crab cake, the salmon, and the bison filet. I gotta say I like it when my meat is still mooing, and that filet for me was cooked just right!
I do have to say that the service was a bit on the slow side and it took awhile for each plate to come out. That’s because this event had a ton of people who rsvp’d and actually showed up, and I think they were a bit short staffed. Heck, we Unilocalers know a good thing when we see it! No one was giving up their spots for this. That being said, the staff here were great and did the best they could. Friendly and attentive, they took care of us and even ran the event an extra 30 minutes to make sure we were all served. Kudos to them.
Fun crowd on hand that all dined at long community style tables, so lots of good conversation and drinking were had while waiting for each plate to arrive.
Gotta give a big hand to CM Ruggy, Unilocal and crew on hand, along with the staff of Ted’s Montana Grill for setting this up and having all of us in for a terrific feast. I was stuffed when I waddled out into the steamy hot NYC evening.
Bonus were the bags of cookies that gave us on the way out. Those were scoffed down while sitting on the couch afterwards basking in some cold AC!

One of my favorite events in five years of being on the elite squad! Such a relaxed but fun time. Unlike some of the other events that I have been to where it seems almost impossible to try most of food and drink items that are being offered because people practically rush the food trays, we were seated and served plated samples of everything on the event menu. It was nice being able to sit and have a chance to try a bit of everything while also easily being able to order drinks.
This was also only my 3^rd Elite Event since moving to the East Coast so I appreciated being able to sit and meet some new people.
Food samples included crab cakes, corn, biscuit sliders topped with onion rings, cedar plank salmon, (perfectly cooked) fillets and chocolate brownies… and yes, I got t try everything! The drink selections included red and white sangria, lemonades, and a good selection of red and white wines.
I staff were all friendly and very concentrated on making sure we were all taken care of.
Big shout out to Ruggy for throwing such a unique and memorable event!
(Oh and I totally agree with Doris C., I’m all about their bathroom soap)

What a fabulous Unilocal event! The other Unilocalers have said it well: The food, service, the ambience, and fun conversation were all the best!
I particularly enjoyed the comfortable and elegant surroundings and especially liked the white wine sangria, Ted’s Filet, the crab cake, the fries, the smoked trout, the fudge brownie, and the scrumptious takeaway cookies!
I will definitely be going back to Ted’s Montana Grill for another reason as well: The sheer generosity of the restaurant’s management in providing us such a wonderful meal hints strongly that my return visits will be equally as memorable!
I’m so glad that this lovely place is only 2 blocks away from The Museum of Modern Art. Now I’ll have a new go-​to place after I attend a MOMA movie event.

Awesome night at Ted’s Montana Grill. Surprised to find that tonights event was a full sit down dinner service. A great surprise though as as the dinner and service was wonderful. Large service area and even a private room in the back but the main seating area was dedicated to the elites and their +1 with a back bar for red and white wine, sangria, and lemonade.
Highlights to me were the corn appetizer that had a kick, the wonderful fries that our corner of the table all agreed was great, the ted’s strip steak, tender and cooked perfectly, and the biscuit bison/​beef slider. As Allison C. and i agree a good biscuit always makes a dish better. Fluffy white biscuit with a wonderful bison beef burger with a nice touch onion ring on top with a american flag. «America F (**&$# Yeah!» The salmon had a smokey cedar plank aroma and the smoke came through on the fish. Mine was a bit dry and overcooked but other had them cooked perfectly. Due to our large group i can expect the consistency to be a bit off in the kitchen. The crab cake was delish as well. Lot’s of large chunk crab meat and few breading. The white and red sangria’s worked well with all the dishes that night. Wonderful service for our large group which could be a tough thing. A lil background on Ted Turner and him establishing this heartland of america type steak restaurant. I would definitely be back as the sliders were spot on as well as the steaks.
Thanks to Ruggy and the hosts of Ted’s for putting together a great event. Great to see Jando and a few new elites and a bunch of old elites that i caught up with.

Ted’s Montana Grill over Ted Mosby
I didn’t have any expectations for last night’s event except to see my home girl Jenny. Running just half an hour late put me at a make-​shift table in the back with my new dude, Rojé and right next to the bartender (aka God of Ted’s), Assante. Lesson learned: (sometimes) being late pays off.
I’ve been to Ted’s (both this location and the one in Denver… don’t ask), and while I had pleasant experiences before, it wasn’t something that called my name Siren song style. Last night’s tasting may have changed that. Everything was delicious of course, but the stand outs were the smoked trout dip (food #1) and the crab cake (food #2?). The crab cake may be the best crab cake I’ve had outside of Maryland. Ted’s…take that and never let that go.
As mentioned above, Assante was my dude. His steady hand kept my glass at a level that helped me forget about my horrible Tuesdays (guys, they’re really bad… like, PTSD for the rest of the summer bad) and made sure Jenny Porkchop and I always had a tasting!
SO Ted’s crew and Rug/​Jando for keeping things going up on a Tuesday.

The fact that I got to eat meat that it was so raw it was figuratively mooing made up for the fact that I was sitting in a soaking set dress and soggy shoes from a downpour I got caught in en route to this event. I’m tellin’ ya, a good steak cures all!
When I arrived to Ted’s Montana Grill, I was surprised to see a sit-​down service among the other patrons. After Jando scanned me in and drew up my name tag (smiley face included!), I sat down with (in my opinion) the coolest kids at the coolest table. (Lori, Phil, Spencer, Hansel, Kevin, Aileen, Gerardo, Orla… come on now!) I did not know what a feast I was in store for!
First, our waitress went around the table asking for drinks; I opted for red sangria, because that’s always a good standby. Sure enough, it was delightful and fruity! Soon, individual plates started rolling out. I am not a seafood person, but I sampled trout dip with tortilla chips, crab cakes, and salmon cooked on a cedar plank. They were all excellent, pretty devoid of that overtly fishy taste I hate, despite tit all being seafood. The sliders were a great bite, wrapped in a hot onion ring and pierced with an American flag toothpick. (YEAH PATRIOTISM!) Finally, the main event happened: STEAK. I got a few pieces, dripped with butter, that were rare as rare could be. I’m immunocompromised and I’m not supposed to eat certain foods, rare or uncooked meat falling squarely into that category. Still, if I can be antiquated and annoying, YOLO. It was so good, I’m pretty sure my eyes rolled into the back of my head. Thirteen hours post steak-​consumption, and I’m still standing, so it clearly didn’t kill my fragile body. ;-) The brownie sundae was the perfect decandent dessert at the perfect size. Anything bigger, and I might have officially fallen into food coma! I grabbed a bag of the cookies, but I brought them home to my beau’s apartment afterwards; leaving them on a stool next to his bed. I fear that he’ll discover them before I can get back to his place. If so, I hope he enjoys them. Ha!
I must applaud the staff. They worked their asses off and deserved all the tips they got. (Well, I hope I’m not the only one that came to tip. Heh…) I’m not sure of her name, but we got a lovely blonde waitress that was on her game; even as our table came across an issue in which half of the table never received the salmon plate, she got us those pieces of salmon in the blink of an eye. Regular dinner service was running in conjunction with our event, and sure, there were some bumps, but everything turned out fine in the end. Seriously, bravo!
This event was the tops, and after sharing stories and photos with the beau, I believe the two of us will be making a dinner trip there in the future. Thanks to Ruggy, Jando, Unilocal,and the beyond awesome restaurant staff for a memorable evening! Almost 11 a.m. the next morning, and I’m still full.

This was only my third Unilocal event and, from what I’ve been told, it sets the bar for all future events. Thanks Ruggy for organising such a fun event (but now you have to outdo yourself…)
Was a sit down event, which was kind of nice as it avoided the mad rush of «buffet style» (I kid you not, someone jumped the whole queue at a previous event & proceeded to load up his plate because everyone else lining up was apparently not in the «burger & wings» line that he decided to create for himself). It also meant we were able to have conversations… civilised! The food was excellent, the wine was good and I was able to meet some new Unilocalers. TBH, being new to the area/​country I had been a little disappointed in some of the weirdness on Talk boards (not so much the nuttiness but the weird creeper/​stalker/​trolls) but this event made me much more interested in getting involved in the Unilocal community. In my limited experience, the Elite event crowds are different (in a good way).
No complaints other than being 30 mins late due to a problem on the subway (please can the organisers arrange for helicopter rides to all future events? Thanks)

With the day starting off with a wait list for the Unilocal Burstday Cruise, this definitely more than made up for it.
Having got my pass after being waitlisted (and also taking off my plus 1 hoping it’ll increase my chances) I was super excited. And this definitely surpassed my expectations.
I arrived late, alone, and with a faulty phone (dam you Bio Inc. app, why do you have to be so fun and educational at the same time). As always though Unilocalers cure your loneliness in seconds and ease all issues with their easy going ness.
I sit down (white table cloth, assigned seats? omg this is gettin fancy) and instantly a bunch of new faces introduce themselves and conversations are being had like everyone knows each other. Unilocal community is truly amazing.
The house wine was free flowing, Chardonnay was definitely made for a steakhouse incase they get customers who just needs a white. The cabernet was easy drinking with less tannins than most cabernet. Didn’t get to try the sangria, but it was perfect sangria weather and everyone was drinking it till they pretty much ran out. Their lemonade made you want to sit on a wooden porch staring out into your farm aka it was good.
The food… they came out in perfect intervals, and in a curated fashion. They definitely got this whole taking you on a journey thing down. The dip tasted great, at first i thought it was tuna, but the taste was something more rich and glorious and I realized it was a whole other type of fish after reading the menu. Crab cake was delicious (can’t really say how good it was since my crab cake experience is minimal, but dam this was good). The slider with a biscuit as the bread nice touch guys. Then salmon… jeez how am I eating all this for free! Then of course the steak… yea man pretty much perfect. Topping it all off with brownie a la mode (a la mode everything!!!).
Then they gave everyone moist chocolate chip cookies to go… which i decided to make into an ice-​cream sandwich at home.
Seriously this has been my favorite elite event in my short time as an elite… not sure if it was because people can buy my favoritism with well made steak, I learned more about diamonds, Ruggy and Jando’s relationship with each other (first time I’ve seen you guys work an event together), the company at my table, the fact that I had a seat and I was in a well air conditioned room on a hot summer night… iono…it just worked. Hopefully this won’t end up being my favorite for long and every next event will become my favorite.

P. S. I don’t get what southwest corn is… but how cool is it that ted turner loved eating bison enough to make sure they aren’t extinct. TT the original man of meta.

«Where’s the beef?» Oh it’s here alright and it’s delicious. Bison is in the house. This type of meat is very lean and tender which definitely makes eating it a win win situation.
Coupled with the ahhhhmazing food, Ted’s has an airy and well laid out restaurant. There’s room enough for a large party yet has intimate booths if it’s just you and your boo.
All in all, Ted’s steakhouse was super delish from the starters to the meats and with the sides as well. I’m not always a dessert person so I wasn’t blown away by them yet they were quite yummy regardless.
This restaurant is definitely a welcome addition to NYC. Yay to us meat eaters and ladies with low iron who need red meat to balance it out.

Theyre commitment and energy put into this classy event definitely shows big time and I’m lucky to have been invited! Anyone would be!

I got to Ted’s Montana Grill slightly late and who would have thought that was the best decision I ever made. All the seats were filled and they had to create a «kids table» for myself and few of my other late Unilocalers. This table happened to be conveniently situated right next to my man assante. That’s right, right next to the server of all things alcoholic. He was right over my shoulder and he was THE MAN. He was so on top of his game. My mini table was living it up having Assante right nex tot us. He took care of our every need so huge props to him!
I’d also like to thank the entire staff because they did an absolutely wonderful job. They truly went above and beyond for the Unilocalers who attended this event.
The food was amazing and it just didn’t stop. Before attending the event I hadn’t eaten in about eight hours and midway through the food selections I was completely full. I think my absolute favorite was the very first selection which was the smoked trout dip. the crab cake with guacamole was very good, the southwest corn was tasty with a spicy kick and the bison sliders were as american as it gets with mini USA flag in each. It was super cute and scrumptious. The onion ring to go with it was one of the best i’ve ever had. It was nice and crunchy but not super oily. The Salmon and the filet were awesome and by the time the basket of fries came the food coma had settled in. I had to force feed myself the brownie afterwards and I don’t regret it one bit.
Thank GOD the cookies were in goodie bags to go because I wouldn’t have made it. Now as I write this review I’m nibbling on the cookies knowing full well I’m completely stuff, but I just can’t help myself.
This entire event was nothing short of spectacular. Great food, great drinks and met a bunch of awesome new Unilocalers! Go Amanda and Jennifer from BK! Ruggy and Jando you rock!

This was the best Unilocal Elite event I’ve been to thus far and that says a lot! All the events are always a really good time. Whenever I come to this area, I always struggle to decide on a place to eat. They all advertise that they are a great spot to dine before a show, however this place really is! They have a lot of employees and they all work very hard. The restaurant was packed and if I even made slight eye contact with an employee, I was served. The menu for tonight was lengthy and everything was delicious. I liked how we got to sample so much without leaving our seats. The crab cake was all crab and I thought it was interesting to pair it with guacamole. The flavor blended well and it was nice to enjoy a crab cake this was not all bread crumbs. The bison burger was so juicy and flavorful! It was served on a sweet, but not too sweet, biscuit. Not to forget the homemade, crunchy onion ring on top. The steak was very juicy and tender. The fries had just the right amount of salt and were cooked to perfection. To end the night we were served my favorite dessert-​brownie with ice cream on top. I’d come back for that alone! Also, the take home cookie really was the icing on the cake ;-) I will absolutely return before a show and will recommend it to my friends. Thanks Ruggy and Jando for hosting this phenomenal event!

A sit down Unilocal event is a rare gem, so thank you for the invite :)
The tastings were awesome and offered a great opportunity to try the breadth of Ted’s offerings, something I don’t think they have on their regular menu, but would be a great option as a large party pre fixe.

I don’t know if anyone else feels the same way… but I loved their bathroom powdered soap. Probably a weird observation, but good soap means they go the extra mile!
