think they should REFORMULATE their hours — –11:30 – 7:30(sunday-friday) and 9:30 – 5:30(saturday) — having suggested that, we truly love the pricing/quality/choices :)

Cheap cheese, appetizers, gourmet food and delicacies. A must-go place if you’re having a party and want to save money. And everything you need to make delicious sandwiches including really good bread and rolls. What more do you need to know? Long live East Village Cheese!

You can’t see inside the store due to all the hand-lettered signs advertising their specials. But don’t let that deter you. As the signs attest, the prices here are incredible. Very friendly service, and a nice selection of basic cheeses.

Not as good as the original EVC. Cheese selection was reduced by at least half, and though they had some interesting stuff, no basic English imports like Red Leicester(with chili peppers only). Still great bargains to be had(like the brie, of course) and good service, but a pale comparison nonetheless.

The best cheese store in probably the entire world. Huge selection of cheese at unbelievably low prices. I’m talking grade AAA blues, fetas, soft cheeses for cheaper than hamburger meat. Also, they have a huge selection of fancy specialty items for ridiculously low prices: olives, cured meats, fine vinegars… Prices so low I’m worried they will go out of business. PLEASEGOTHEREANDBUY A FEWPOUNDSOFREALLYNICECHEESE(won’t cost you much!)

I’ve been shopping here on and off for over 10 years(first in the original 3rd Ave location, now 7th Street). In more than 10 years, the prices have barely risen. They are extremely reasonable, especially for an independent cheese shop in an expensive neighborhood. I went in today and picked up two cheeses on sale this week: Bulgarian Feta(3.99/lb) and a lovely cheddar(same price). Total for a pound: $ 4.25. Service is also good here. Kudos!

My heart almost stopped when I went to the original location on 3rd avenue and saw the papered windows. Luckily I was sufficiently composed to read the sign with the new address on it. Admittedly, I’m disappointed with the new place. The cheese selection seems to have shrunk by almost half. Their stocks seemed significantly depleted. For the second New Years Eve in a row, I’ve been unable to get country paté(wouldn’t they consider that a staple to have, especially this time of year?) The peppercorn paté is a good alternative but it would be nice to get the former. Also, no manchego cheese? I’ve never not been able to get manchego at EVC and, again, had to settle for an alternative. The customer ahead of me also wasn’t finding something he’d gotten there before. The prices are still great but I’m wondering that with the seemingly sporadic cheese and meat choices available, I may have to find an alternative place to shop. Also, it would be better to carry the large selection of cheese and remove all of the crackers and other packaged food which one can find anywhere. I go to EVC for the affordable and imported cheeses and meats, not for fancy crackers.

Having been to the OG, this new location is much smaller(it’s reminiscent of Russo’s now, and of course has less window space for their handwritten sales signs), but pound for pound packs a comparable selection. Same friendly & knowledgeable staffers I encountered last time.

Talking about cheese it’s a huge selection and fantastically cheap! 15 $ and you can go crazy and make a party tray full of cheese! Everything else in the stores(like bread, crackers) doesn’t get as much discount as cheese, but who cares if you can get a giant peace of sheep-cheese for 3.99 $

This place is great. Pretty much equal selection to a whole foods for a fraction of the price. Highly recommended!

Really good cheese shop that you don’t find anymore. Lots of rare and unusual cheeses you can find and a deli where you can get sandwiches and stuff. Unfortunately — the one thing i’m always looking for are cheese curds and they don’t carry them. Booo

To my surprise, one of my favorite stores moved. Luckily I managed to track them down.

I can’t believe I just paid that little for that much amazing cheese. a really lovely selection especially of European cheeses and seriously, the prices were astonishingly low. Shops like this are what make NYC great, and I’m glad they’ve got their new location and are continuing to rock the EV. brb stuffing face with amazing stinky cheese.

Above and beyond helpful. Had a party, they made a platter, then delivered it for me when I needed it. So friendly and easy to work with!

The first couple of months I moved to EV4 years ago, East Village Cheese shop became my weekly payday ritual: affordable, authentic, hearty gourmet cheese after long study weekend days. It has been one of the most EVish places on my list. This summer when I found they closing because of the rising rent, my heart was broken. But now here it comes, new location near my favorite coffee joint, with the same price, and loads of friendless! I think this new location is even better — on the beautiful 7th street rather than the crowded avenue — offering you the most authentic EV staple goodies. Five out of Five stars. For $ 10 you can get tons of gourmet cheese — don’t wait, just go!

It always amazes me how much cheese you can buy for so little money– not only do they have cheese but they also have wonderful things like cornichon– quiche marscapone Cold cuts. pâté’s, prosciutto– oh what a price that you can afford not to buy. Enjoy this gift to the East Village!

Thankfully, eating poutine and cannelloni stuffed with mushrooms and cheese in a cream sauce on the same day did not send me to my demise. However, seeing the shuttered doors on this cheese shop almost did. As I gasped and made to whip out my trusty Unilocal app for a search mission, I noticed the weather beaten sign. The East Village Cheese Store has relocated! This new location is no upscale, modernized version of the old store, smacking of glitz and glamour and inflated prices to match. You have spartan floors, chalk boards, rather unflattering lighting that gives the place a dated feel. Who cares! For here you will always find familiar and unusual cheeses at great prices. As if that weren’t enough, you can sometimes luck out and obtain real steals. I found a huge jar of Double Devon cream for $ 3.99! Can you even obtain the item except at a gourmet grocer? There was Rembrandt cheese, a bargain at $ 3.99 for 5 oz. I used to treasure my trips to Aruba for the special Dutch cheeses I could find cheaper in the duty free shops and one day here I found wedges! I’ve never tried authentic German Butterkase before I found it here – the stuff you find is usually from Wisconsin. You want quality marscapone for your tiramisu? Stop in and check them out. It might be a good day. The delight in visiting is seeing what yummy treasures you can leave with, and still pay your rent. The agony for me is keeping myself from buying too much. I usually load up and then have to try to figure out what to do with excess cheese. East Village still sells the breads, condiments, jams, hummus, butter and assorted foodstuffs. It’s an amazing place to stock up for your next cheese platter; yes, you don’t need to microplane shavings of that $ 30 lb cheese to feed to your friends. Here, you can buy loads of Brie and other cheeses and crackers for that $ 30. Vive East Village Cheese!

Today is their grand opening! This location is larger than the original but their prices remain unchanged.
