ate at this place today, $ 5 gets a nice combo(chicken and gyro) plus the guy throws in all manner of things; a couple falafel balls, cooked cabbage. there is 3 kinds of rice and always a long line; waited about 20 minutes but the guy takes no shortcuts; freshly fried falafel, grills the pitas under a broiler instead of slapping onto the griddle, everything is freshly made and served with a smile. guy is there monday to friday. EDIT: no longer at this corner, I’ve seen him set up on 6th avenue now, between upper teens and lower twenties.

This cart ranks up there with the top Halal carts I’ve been to in the city, and not just because it’s steps from my office. The large meat and rice platter($ 5) is absolutely huge, more than I can eat in one lunch, and I’m a pretty big guy. They throw in a lot of vegetables that standard halal carts don’t always have – peppers and onions, and a surprisingly delicious sauteed cabbage. Pile all that in with the standard lettuce tomato and white and hot sauces, and you get a mound of deliciousness that can brighten the most glum work day. The guys that run the cart are friendly, so much so that there were regulars hanging out and chatting with them last week, when it was 20 degrees outside. Also, like all of my favorite carts, the prices are printed clearly on the side so there are no surprises. The cart offers a small platter for $ 4 as well, so I suppose if you want a meal you can actually finish, that’s a sensible option.
