Why do i live by the worst drugstore(this Duane Reade) and the worst supermarket(the Gristede’s on 40th) in the city? This Duane Reade has less inventory than Duane Reade Expresses do. The employees here are questionable; not the friendliest people. The store is cramped. I try my best to avoid coming here on all costs and order my toiletries through Amazon Prime when I can.

The employees here are very pleasant and always remember familiar faces. They have your basic needs available always and are more of an express shop. However the few times that I have encountered the manager(tall bald African American male) he has been standoffish with the customers and RUDE to the employees. He talks down to them and makes mean remarks. I recall him telling a gentleman ringing me up «oh you know how to do that but you can’t seem to tell what a fake bill looks like»… Totally inappropriate and un professional, the employee looked embarrassed. This man should not be managing anyone and maybe needs some more training on how to treat employees. Happy employees means happy customers.

This DR is too small and poorly stocked. Over the summer, they had no spray sunscreen. Recently, they had no nail polish remover. Sure, these aren’t life saving items, but they are what I went in there for and left disappointed. Waste of time.

Open all night. Or till about 4 or 5 not quite sure. But they were open when I went inI guess about 4. Was working outside, had a headache, got Tylanol. Then went across the Street to McDonalds.

I have to admit, I don’t go in here much, as most of my basic toiletry needs can be satisfied at nearby grocery/convenience stores. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they renovated this location, bringing it in line with the other«nicer» Duane Reades around Manhattan(new paint, better lighting and signage, more«to-go» items and better beers!) Staff have always been friendly, even breaking bills when all I go in for is to use the Chase ATM. I can’t speak to the pharmacists as I don’t take prescription meds or utilize their other services. Overall, I’d recommend this drugstore for those in the neighborhood. Perhaps the Gristedes on 40th&2nd could take some renovation notes from the Duane Reade playbook — It’s like a welfare kitchen in there!

Duane Reade is owned by Walgreens and therefore no longer accepts my insurance(even though it’s the number one insurance company in New York). Whomp whomp.

Expectations of a DR border on expectations of a Walmart miracle. If they weren’t convenient, of course we wouldn’t go there… This one is par for the course, near the hotel I stayed at, and I think we managed to go there at least once a day while in town. While it may not have a convenient way of sending you to exactly the aisle you need, THEPLACEIS400SQUAREFEET! So, you shouldn’t be out of breath while trying to find anything other than the condoms you may have sprinted eight blocks to buy at 4am for your big bar pickup… Staff was staffing, prices were typically above median, hours were open. Seriously… what else do you need?

Consistently the worst Duane Reade in the city. The store is pretty clean and organized. The main problem is the people that work there, some of the most incompetent employees i have ever seen. Expect a line at all times of the day. The cashiers take FOREVER. God forbid there’s a problem with an item that was scanned, it’s gonna take 10 minutes for them to solve it. It’s really annoying when there’s a line, and you see employees standing around basically doing nothing. I hate that this is the Duane Reade on my block. A lot of the time i just end up going across the street to the bodega to save time.

The signs advertising sale items are small, misleading and usually in the wrong place. This makes for lots of bringing items up to the register, having them ring up full price and then trying to correct or cancel the transaction as a large, impatient line forms in the rear.
