I’ve been meaning to try one of the bagel joints down the street, and finally had the chance to go with a friend who was visiting for the weekend. On first impression, the interior of David’s Bagels looked pretty dingy and rundown. Fortunately, the bagels and spreads themselves looked pretty fresh. I guess the upkeep of the store just isn’t a huge priority. I really wanted a bagel breakfast sandwich with eggs/breakfast meat, but I didn’t see those options. Now that I see Unilocal photos though, I probably just didn’t know how to order said bagel sandwich. Oh well. I ended up ordering a sesame bagel with lox spread and a medium coffee($ 6.80 total). They are generous with the lox spread, which is delicious and not too fishy(ie. I could eat it in class without stinking up the classroom). I didn’t get my bagel toasted because it cost an additional 10 cents and I didn’t really care for it after seeing how they completely burned a croissant for the order ahead of me. Skip the coffee and grab Starbucks down the street instead if you want something drinkable.

Being a new resident in the area, David’s bagels has absolutely stolen my heart(and taste buds). Amazing sandwiches!!! Will definitely be coming back here soon!

There was a long line, almost out the door, but the total wait was maybe only 15 min. I got the CINNAMONRAISINBAGELWITHWALNUTRAISINCREAMCHEESE. It was delicious! Make sure to get your bagels toasted! I liked the walnut raisin cream cheese – it had a nice subtle flavor. It would probably go better on a bagel that has more contrast. The cinnamon raisin bagel and the cream cheese meshed into one flavor, though still delicious nonetheless. The bagel had a crispy exterior, chewy inside and it was warm and toasty. I took a bite of my friend’s ONIONBAGELWITHSTRAWBERRYCREAMCHEESE. Also delicious. No complaints here. Great contrast of flavors that still complement. ICEDCOFFEE. I recommend to not get it with sugar… they just add granulated sugar, which does not dissolve.

I visited Bagel Boss first. Then I tried David’s. I have never returned back to Bagel Boss. These bagels are definitely better and so are the iced coffees. I ordered a sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel. For the majority, it was very tasty. My only flaw which doesn’t allow this place to be a five is not enough meat. The egg to sausage ratio was not favorable to how I usually like that. This is my new bagel place I go to every weekend.

Waited in line for 10 minutes and couldn’t bear the very visible piles of dirt all over the furniture. Never seen anything that dirty in a business, even less in a restaurant business. That place is filthy and I don’t care how good their bagels may be, conducting business like this should never be allowed. So gross.

I was so excited to visit my old faithful David’s Bagels. This isn’t the David’s Bagels I’m used to. They’re in a new location. The seating area is blah. Maybe because I visited on the afternoon IDK. But there wasn’t much of a selection of bagels and they weren’t as soft as I remembered them to be. Also I didn’t remember them being that expensive! A bagel with nothing is $ 1 a bagel if you add something like scallions it jumps to $ 3.50. Maybe I just forgot they were expensive…

Ordered a bacon egg and cheese on toasted sesame bagel. The flavor a were great and it looked like the items had been tossed together on the grill rather than piled on the bagel. The bacon was crunchy which I love but wasn’t spread out evenly so I ended up with some parts that were just egg, and some that were big bacon chunks(can’t complain about that). Fairly quick service for a Friday morning.

I always go to Tompkins, but then I discovered David’s. I live on 10th and I can walk to David’s, get my bagel, walk home and then eat it faster than if I went to Tompkins which is 200 ft from my door. The bagels are just as good, they actually take credit card, and the bacon is crispier. Why not go here?

I’ve stopped by David’s Bagels and nearby Bagel Boss fairly often since they both have good hours and are very close to work. Having tried both places at least a dozen times… I have to say that David’s is miles ahead of Bagel Boss when it comes to taste and freshness. Maybe because the Bagel Boss next door is open 24 hours(and thus great for late night cravings), their bagels never have that«freshly baked» taste other than at 4:30 am(probably when they’re baked?) David’s Bagels, on the other hand, always taste super fresh. Even the whitefish and baked salmon salads taste better(and are cheaper), which is kind of ironic since Bagel Boss touts itself as being the more genuine Jewish bagel place. Service at both places can be hit or miss, but for the vast majority of times is without problems. tl;dr — David’s Bagels is a neighborhood gem, but when it’s closed, Bagel Boss is an decent alternative.

Holy cow — as a Long Islander I know a good bacon, egg and cheese on a whole wheat everything bagel and this seriously tops all that I’ve had. The bagel was so fresh and doughy — a perfect weekend morning pick-me-up. Come earlier to avoid the slow line, as it tends to get crowded with hungover, hangry customers in the mid-morning on weekends. Only reason I’m not giving five stars is because they put regular bacon instead of turkey bacon(yes they offer turkey bacon, yum!) on my sandwich, knew they messed up, and proceeded to give it to me anyway when I reluctantly said that’s fine. There are worse things in the world.

This has got to be one of the better bagels places on the lower east side and is my go to sport on weekends. If you come here during rush hour though there can be 20+ minute waits but I personally think it is worth it. It offers all your typical bagels and and whole wheat everything bagels my favorite. I usually get egg and cheese on a bagel and it is cooked soft scrambled and so delicious. The bagels here are soft on the outside and have the right crunch texture on the outside. There aren’t to many bagel places on the LES so if you are looking for a good spot look no further and come here. In addition the coffee here is extremely good, I am not sure exactly how they make but i think they put some Thai ice tea in the ice coffee mixture which gives a sweet tasty after taste and the hot coffee is just as good. In regards to speed they are very quick even when they have long lines and the staff is very friendly. In short: — My favorite LES bagel spot — Delicious bagels and coffee — Has all the basic bagels no specialty bagels — Fair prices — Quick but can have long lines during weekend rush hour times

I’m on the hunt for the perfect neighborhood bagel. Spoiler alert: David’s doesn’t have it, but they do come pretty close(especially for the area). My test is two pronged: first, I order a bacon egg and cheese on an everything because bacon can partially redeem even the saddest of bagels. Next, I return for a bagel with cream cheese to ensure the product can stand alone. If both are up to par and I would return again, I deem the establishment a Good Neighborhood Bagel Place™. I would give David’s BEC a hearty thumbs up and am eager to return for the second portion of the test. The everything bagel was appropriately fluffy and well-seasoned and the bacon enjoyably crispy. Still ranks below Ess-a-Bagel IMO but worth the stop if you’re near the East Village for sure.

I was expecting some delicious freshly baked bagels, but it really was nothing special. I had a bagel lox with light chive cream cheese on a toasted garlic bagel. I went to David’s on a Sunday morning for breakfast to naturally find a line. I thought that the line would go by fairly fast, but it still took a little time to get to the cash register to pay at the end. I was probably in like for about 20 minutes even though the line didn’t look very long at all. The bagel itself was just alright, and tasted like any other bagel at some generic shop. For the long line that I waited, I was pretty disappointed. There was also just way too much cream cheese on the bagel, overwhelming all the other flavors and making it taste way too salty. The salmon did look and taste fairly fresh though. They charge you extra to have the bagel toasted, but I didn’t think that they toasted it enough because it still tasted a little doughey in my opinion. The sandwich was very filling though, and I couldn’t even finish it even though I wiped a lot of the cream cheese off. I think you can definitely find better bagels in NYC. Another negative aspect to David’s Bagels is the service. The cashier isn’t very friendly and behaves as if she just wants you to pay and get out of her way as fast as possible.

The best bagels in the East Village! I could(and do) eat here almost every morning when in Manhattan. The garlic bagel is not as over-powering as one might imagine — the taste will eventually subside as the day progresses. I typically go for the plain bagel with cream cheese because, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Their iced coffee is also unreasonably good. I always see people walking in with Starbucks cups, and I think«what a waste» because the coffee and Thai iced tea here is legit. They also have a nice selection of juices/sodas(including Nantucket Nectars, yum!) if you’re not a coffee person. Sure, the atmosphere is nothing fancy, but if you want regal, you’re probably in the wrong part of Manhattan. Prices are also great — an entire breakfast for under $ 10. That’s alright by me.

my go to bagel place in this area… all their bagels always taste fresh… usually get a whole wheat toasted with garlic chive cream cheese and lox. Yummm! the wait on a Saturday morning around a quarter to 11 is about 15 minutes… but worth it! Staff is always friendly!

Customer service wasn’t too great but who cares? These bagels were BOMB! I tried a whole wheat everything with lite veggie cream cheese and lox and devoured the whole thing hehe. They have tons of different cream cheese flavors as well as tofu cream cheese which I may have to try next time! Can’t wait to come back :)

Great Bagel place! I got ½ a dozen for $ 6! And they were warm and delicious bagels. Convenient location by the train, perfect hours, friendly staff! You can make bagel-sandwhiches of your choice too!

Came here for all the raving Unilocal reviews. And for a lox and lox spread bagel. For $ 11, it includes a flimsy slice of smoked salmon. Definitely not the best I’ve had. And yes, it was toasted. Go to Tasty Café instead, if you are willing to make the trip. They’ll add capers and other toppings if you request…

We came to David’s on a Sunday around 2PM — my normal Sunday breakfast time. It’s a good thing we did, because I overheard people saying that the line had previously been out the door. We ordered an everything bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers and tomatoes, and a plain bagel with walnut raisin cream cheese. I expected the salmon/cream cheese combo to be the standout between the two, and it was for sure delicious, but the walnut raisin was AH-MAZING. The bagel and the cream cheese were both so good. To drink, I got a thai iced tea, and it was great as well. I would absolutely go out of my way to come back here, as I don’t live in the neighborhood. This is a destination bagel spot.

David’s Bagel NY Manhattan 11am BagelSunday 15th February 2015 Four Stars After the first Bagel store didn’t have eggs we stopped by this wonderful bagel shop. We ordered three Toasted, Bacon, Egg, and Cheese bagels on egg, onion, and everything. The bagel was plump, well buttered, and sufficiently chewy. The bacon was crispy and folded nicely into the egg so it wouldn’t fall out. The egg and cheese served its purpose. These Asians know how to make a mean bagel.
