My other podiatrist didn’t have to «test» my level of pain by digging into the inflamed area. I am still a little shocked about that as I write this. I suppose any physician must overcome «sensitivity» to another’s pain, but honestly that seemed downright sadistic.
Also unlike Dr. Firshein, my other podiatrist recommended taping my feet– which has helped me make strides in overcoming plantar fasciitis –instead of jumping to immediate recommendations of cortisone injections. Another final sore point is that he missed, or at least failed to inform me of, my diagnosis of fallen arches. this may be due to his use of ultrasound instead of xray, which I was informed is actually the diagnostic standard.

Dr. Firshein made my day, week and month when he expertly removed a tiny shard of glass that had implanted itself in the sole of my foot. When I called his office in a panic because I was in so much pain, his receptionist kindly agreed to squeeze me in the very next day. Once I arrived, I was seen fairly quickly and the good Dr. cracked some jokes, got me to relax and somehow found this tiny shard and removed it. I highly recommend him.

I work on my feet 50 – 60 hours a week (and that’s not counting the hours I spend walking as my main form of transportation), so when I started suffering from severe heel pain, I had to do something… and fast.
I found Dr. Firshein through my insurance’s website and made an appointment through
for the very next day. It was super easy and I got a personal e-​mail from the Doctor’s office confirming my appointment.
Dr. F has been treating me for Plantar Fasciitis for about a month now, and, I’m starting to feel much more like my old self. The Doctor is funny and I always feel at ease talking to him. I feel like he listened to me and came up with a treatment plan I can live (and work) with.
The staff is helpful and I’ve never had to wait long at my appointments. I’d highly recommend Dr. Firshein to anyone that has foot pain.

I don’t exactly know how it happens, but I suspect it has to do with having to pee in the middle of the night. Half asleep, I usually walk into two or three pieces of furniture before I make it to the bathroom, and then there’s the trek back to my bedroom. I wake feeling as if I was battered, bearing the bruises of my own abuse.
We all know it starts with a stubbed toe, and then a month or two down the road there’s a deep in-​grown toenail. It sounds gross, yes, but it either happens to you or it doesn’t, and I hope you’re in the latter camp. For me, it’s happened a lot: twice in the past year, always the big toes.
When it first happened I panicked – hey, I don’t have any insurance. I tried to get it out myself which only made it worse. Still I was determined to deal with it alone. I hobbled around for one month, and just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse I fell down my front stoop (because I was coddling my foot) and got one on the other big toe! I decided to suck it up and seek out a podiatrist. Dr. Firshein was recommended to me by a friend, and though I was skeptical (as always), I decided to trust my friend’s advice.
I was nervous when I went in. For one thing I didn’t know how much it’d cost, and for another I wasn’t sure how far the infection had spread. Dr. Firshein was great. He’s funny and energetic and yet serious when he gets down to business. And he knew I was stressed about the payment so made sure I knew exactly how much it would cost BEFORE he did anything. I agreed to the procedure and he got ready to attack my toe.
I know we don’t know each other, but I will reveal this personal detail: it hurts a lot when that needle goes right into the most infected part of the toe. I screamed (who wouldn’t!) and the receptionist came into the room to hold my hand. Talk about service! She held my hand through the whole thing.
The follow up visit went swimmingly and my toes are happy again.
From the first time I called, to the follow up visit everyone was friendly, nice and professional. On the one hand I hope I’ll never see them again, and yet I wouldn’t mind if I bumped in to one or another on the street.

Great doc located in Village near busses subways– I ve recommended several friends and family go to him for a variety of foot problems: heel pain, bunions, hammertoes, fungal nails. All thought he was very helpful knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Staff is very accomodating and I think he takes most insurance plans.
