Exceptionally cool space, great for an event. Bartenders are awesome and I enjoyed looking at the work that was on display in the galleries. Also a pretty great beer list! Oh, and happy hour beers for $ 3. What’s better than that?

After having been here for a friend’s birthday I can say that the space is really great for gatherings/parties whatever. The space is really configurable to do whatever-in my case it was for drinking-with a beer pong table set up in the art space. The bartenders were fine. I mean, it’s not like they were like super friendly but they definitely weren’t jerks either. The selection they have was impressive for such a small area they were working with and I had a great time there, and apparently for my friend it was a great spot since they didn’t set a minimum for people. A cool space with a really laid back vibe and easy to set up a party space for.

Attention 23 year olds! I’d suggest avoiding this place completely, unless you’re a friend of the pretentious bartender, whom apparently has a masters degree in douche baggery. It appears that this bartender has not seen a single ID that has been issued since 2012, which I find to be impossible. Our group consisted of three people, all of our ID’s had been approved and beer orders taken. When suddenly, some random person sitting at the end of the bar calls the bartender over and begins to show him designs of NY licenses and obviously suggested that ours are fake. I don’t know who this person was or why he felt the need to subject his false influence on the bartender, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Getting denied after displaying our legitimate licenses? What kind of bartender is hired without knowing what a real license looks like? So instead of doing some sort of further investigating and«keeping the customer in mind» he just takes the word of some random snob sitting in the corner and tells us that he cannot serve us. Both the bartender and his friend are completely wrong, both utterly rude. The beer selection was mediocre at best, you can find these beers in any beer shop. We didn’t even get to see the art in the gallery. This isn’t the first negative review aimed towards the bartender(s) and I doubt it will be the last.

If you’re 23, I recommend not coming here, unless you like to be embarrassed. Although according to some other reviewers that may just happen anyway. After ordering a beer and being ID’d, some douche bag sitting at the end of the bar apparently tells the bartender our ID’s should«have the squiggly lines.» This guy, who I can only assume is either a regular or an employee off the clock, actually has his smartphone held out to the bartender showing him New York State ID designs! Unreal. It’s one thing to not mind your own business and to have a bartender who doesn’t know what a proper ID looks like, but the fact is they’re both wrong, which makes the situation incredibly frustrating. He said that all ID’s since 2010 have a squiggly line and all three of ours don’t have it, so he can’t serve us. False, sir. Our ID’s are legit and they do have squiggly lines. My beer and mug were already on the table by the time he said this and I find it hard to believe he hasn’t seen any of the more colorful NYS Driver Licenses issued after 2010 whose squiggly lines are a tad faded; the state which I was trying to attain. So to the douche at the end of the bar: you’re a baffoon. I didn’t even get to see the art. Since it may interest people to know, the beer selection wasn’t that great either. Most of the beers were in the 80’s on Beer Advocate, and the good choices are easily found elsewhere and for a lower price(almost all the beers are $ 7 – 8). No cheap beer to found here once your taste buds are low-functioning either. Apparently this place is a front for DMV operations that want you to pay to renew your license early. I wouldn’t trust them.

Great cozy bar, with a nice art gallery like space in the back. Had an awesome guava mimosa drink special. The bathroom could be better(only one stall for men and women). The outside is not that noticeable, but that adds to the local bar feel. Very friendly staff.

What kind of bar runs out of mugs for beer? Very poor service.

This place seems great at first(art gallery+bar), but the bar-tending staff is incredibly rude. I was with a large group of friends, having purchased multiple rounds of beer, when the bartender comes over to our group and accuses one of us for projectile vomiting in the bathroom, claiming that he knew everyone else in the bar and by process of elimination, it had to be one of us. The bartender throws a large stack of paper towels on our table and coerces one of our group members to clean up SOMEONEELSE’S VOMIT. He points at various members of our group, claiming that those of us with asian glow we were too drunk(asian glow isn’t exactly an indication of sobriety), and then tells us that we have to leave within 5 minutes I’ve never been so insulted at a bar in New York. Needless to say, they’ve lost our business for good.

There’s a reason why CultureFix has 4 ½ stars from 55 reviews. Their reputation and reviews are on point. So let me tell you about my experience with them. First off CultureFix is a unique idea and event space. I cannot name any other place in Manhattan that will charge what they do for the amenities and choices that they have. It is a unique space to host an event, dinner party, or bar to go to. The employees are all very chill laid back guys and easy to deal with. Ari and Cole are awesome guys. So enough about my lengthy speech. Let’s get down to the basics: I booked this venue after days of extensive research online trying to find a place that would be perfect for my best friend’s 40th Birthday party and his budget of $ 2K for about 30 guests. When he gave me the actual budget I was not sure if we could find something for that amount but my excellent research skills came into play! Our party was a casual cocktail style party which featured an Open Bar with 2 Beer drafts &2 Wine options and 3 hors d’oeuvres choices– Price for our party: $ 8/pp per hour for the alcohol choice and $ 8/pp per hour for the HD’s. Total cost about $ 1,300 plus taxes & gratuities That in itself is remarkable considering this is NYC. Ok, so on to the venue. CultureFix has a gallery space that features local artists and exhibits-this changes weekly from what I heard. This is what drew me to CultureFix in the first place since I am an artist. Any place that supports artists is already ahead of the game in my book. The location was suitable and I was able to get parking in front of the bar. This made me extremely happy. The guys came out to my car and assisted me with all my décor and balloons. They were pleasant and right away I knew it was going to go smoothly. The food was awesome and delicious. It went perfectly with our drinks and candies that I used as my décor. Ari’s extensive background in the culinary world is evident in his menu options and food. In conclusion, I booked a venue that I had never seen before and based everything on Unilocal reviews. It was a great decision to book CultureFix as the party was a huge success and everyone was pleased. The food, value, service and venue itself are worth every penny. Also, I am a Catering & Events Professional and credit is due to these guys. So if you are interested in booking them, I can honestly tell you with no hesitation to do so. Check them out and I’m sure you will agree with the rest of the Unilocal reviews.

Nice space and welcoming atmosphere. This was the second time I had been invited to a private party at Culturefix. Now, I’m sorry I didn’t attend the first party. The space is so pleasant and the staff is so accommodating that I’m sure all of the guests enjoyed the evening. I’ve always thought galleries are an excellent place to host an event. I’ve hosted a few events at campus galleries over the years. Those events went well, but the staffing is quite limited so you’re pretty much on your own in terms of catering. This little, intimate birthday celebration at Culturefix was«artful.»

Update from the 2013NYC beerathon. They were much more prepared this time around. I was worried that they were closest bar to the check in spot, but they came through. Walking up, there was a big line and I immediately got worried. However, they started letting people in, and I was surprised that they actually had an assembly line set up to give beers out. Very efficient and the bartenders had a much better attitude this year. And I got to view the rest of the establishment this time around and saw some decent paintings. It’s not quite my type of place but I appreciate what they were trying to do. I’ll take the SO there next time. She likes that kind of stuff.

This is a very unique space. I love the layout, though a bit confusing, especially if you just walk in on a random night. Surely there will be something interesting going on. I went on a very low key sunday and found a virtually empty bar with really nice barkeepers that welcomed us upon entering. We were then informed of the short film night, and the birthday party upstairs and people started piling in and or emerging from the larger spaces. I was drinking Iaguintas on tap and the house red wine, both of which a fine choice and a good taste. We got a cheese plate that left something more to be desired– but apparently you can order in food– i overheard the bartender giving good suggestions in the area. I like this place because it’s relaxed, the film night was a surprise and I ended up enjoying what they curated. People flowing in and out organically… extremely friendly place!

I got a Pearl Necklace here. And I liked it. No, it’s a beer. I swear.* And Culturefix has a surprisingly long and interesting list of other bottles to slowly work your way through. If you get bored with beer-drinking(I never seem to), you can always walk around the gallery space. It’s one-of-a-kind. Alternately home to musical performances, dinners, readings, workshops, meet-ups, and performance art, the space defies description. Seek it out. But don’t blink or you’ll miss it. _____________ *

My boyfriend hosted my 30th Birthday here and it was awesome. Such a cool space in room behind & above bar that’s basically a pseudo art gallery with tons of room. They required a deposit, but it goes towards the pending bar tab, so free to «reserve» and it was completely private. The bonus too was that they had a good speaker system & let me play my music. What made it was the owners — Just the nicest, most laid back guys who genuinely wanted to make our party a fun experience. They only serve beer & wine, but for my crowd, that was totally fine. I only drank the prosecco(ALLNIGHT), which was awesome, but the review of available beers was a thumbs up. Some people ordered tacos too & said they were really good. Great alternative, hip place to host a party! Highly recommend!

I had my wife’s birthday party here and we had a great time. The staff were so courteous and prompt when replying to my various queries to arrange the spot. We had the small room on top of the bar, which accommodated 30 people easily, 20 seated. When we go there we were treated SO well, everyone was super hospitable. The host left his ipod on with Pandora, so we could select our own music. They really tried very hard to ensure that we would have a good time and we did!!! The beer selection is amazing, and although I don’t drink beer the wine selection was really good too. The bartender was super sweet and so cute!(yeah, i am married but not blind). We tried the pork tacos and they were surprisingly good They didn’t mind us bringing our own cakes and even tried to arrange some plates/cutlery for the cakes. Amazing place for a party, the only tiny flaw is that there is only one beer on tap. Otherwise it’s just a lovely, charming and eclectic(in the best way)!

My friend had her birthday party here. We had an amazing time. We received the small room on the 2nd floor all to ourselves. It gave an intimate feel to our party of 30 people. The bartenders and staff were super-friendly. The beer selection was pretty good. I really liked the Lagunitas IPA. There is a large room in the back where one can have events or movie screenings. I hope to come here again soon.

I came in for an event for Social Media Week which the bar was supposed to be hosting. The bartender(working the evening of Feb.22 if someone of importance is reading this) at the front was rude for no reason when I asked about it and then said«This is why I don’t have Twitter» sarcastically to two people sitting at the bar. I showed him on my phone that the bar was supposed to be having the event there and he was just plain rude and made my guest and I uncomfortable about being there in general. We left and had a great dinner and drinks at a much nicer place down the street. Culturefix lost two great customers for life that night because WELOVETODRINK and have the money to do so. Never Again stepping foot in this bar.

Quirky is a good word to describe this basement beer bar. Only through friends would you likely come to know this place unless you’re a little adventurous. It was dead on a Friday night, so I wouldn’t necessarily have stopped in, but a friend brought us and glad he did. They’ve got a really random and unique beer selection with a lot of small label brews and some more familiar Belgians like Maredsous. They offer some really rad bar snacks consisting of tacos and some other fun stuff that I can’t remember. The tacos are crazy good and go perfectly with beer. On the ground level is an art gallery in motion — alternative types are creating their masterpieces back there while you’re up front enjoying your beer and music. Upstairs is another type of music — likely eclecto-classical inlcuding cellos and other weird instruments or whatever the night’s jam session brings. It’s a funky bar/studio I guess you could say.

If you hate having a bar so much, don’t have a bar. The bartender up front at this place had such a disdain for his job it was infections… I won’t be going back! Some interesting modern art pieces in the back but not worth the attitude up front!

Came here for a private birthday party and was shocked at how I had never before heard of such a cool place. Plenty of room in the back gallery area for a party of 20 – 30 people(maybe more depending on the set up) coupled with a finely curated beer selection and a generally excellent vibe(thanks to the bartenders/owners). I can’t wait to go back! Though I do need to deduct a single star for the menu. It’s kind of a hard thing to do, because I don’t really expect a bar/venue like this to offer anything in terms of food. But when a place does, its not OK to bring outside food(of which there are endless great options in the surrounding area) and the tacos just don’t hold up. Maybe with the right hot sauce I could have salvaged something, but without the«chipotle» shrimp tacos and the chicken/cheese empanada were bland as hell. Who cares? Don’t look for a meal and you’ll have a fantastic time, guaranteed!

Night begins early; Dr. Tortellini revives himself for glorious conquest. Who’s that? Une réunion de copains a la Universitas Viridis Montis! Alas, I am left pondering. No matter! Unique beers all around! Sip them with pleasure while perched upon chairs harkening back to days of elementary school art class, and revel in it, hark. The bouncer may grab you for a quasi-racist street performer outside. Heed his words but take caution. The art, from Haiti, is macabre in a most beautiful way. Placed around tables crafted of hand split timber. This review, perchance, may be a flop. **Next Morning Update** — I was somewhat tipsy while writing the above review. I’m going to leave it up anyways.

I was so conflicted before coming to CULTUREfix for the first time. Before CULTUREfix was in this space it was vacant for a year. Before that, I had my business in the space for a year and built the whole thing out so I had some abject bitterness left toward the space for a variety of reasons. Within seconds it all disappeared If you are looking for a cool place to hang out, have a couple drinks, have some very, very good appetizers with the potential of seeing some art and relaxing at some indoor picnic tables, you have found your place. CULTUREfix is run by two cool guys who are busy doing what you should be doing to grow your business: working hard and testing out new things each day. The bar is along the left as you enter and can probably seat about ten, with a small two-top in the window as well. It is a cozy, narrow entry which leads back to my favorite part of the space. As you go up the ramp, you will find 14 foot ceilings with four skylights and a couple indoor picnic tables to hang out at, as well as some couches. Art will line the walls as this is the gallery part of the space or the relaxation zone. Don’t sleep on the food here, it is a highlight. The goat cheese pound cake with pork is outstanding and they are constantly trying new menu items to see what works. Do not expect Raines Law Room, expect a relaxing, cool space where you could pop in anytime, wearing anything and get some good drinks and food and friendliness and leave with some money left in your wallet.* ____________________________ * Unless you are a total drunk, then you never leave a bar with money in your pocket.
