Come on down to the South Street Seaport, the totally rebuilt area now sports an impressive array of bars restaurants and touristy comforts. cowgirl Seahorse is the last place on front street before hitting the Brooklyn Bridge so i would think that it tends to not get as crowded as some of the more central areas. Taco Taco Tuesdays is what was on the menu for my visit. The special taco was a Craw fish with avocato Crema. Big plus was the $ 5 corona that came with it. Then why 3 stars you might ask. The food was good but not that good and the staff seemed to be a bit new. But definitly worth a try if you are in the area.

This place really is ALMOSt five stars. We go to the city a lot with our kids and love staying in the Financial District. Less people, more laid back. This area especially I love. Randomly we found this placed and loved the name. So we went and so so so happy we did. The staff even on the phone was super sweet .85 was Memorial Day so we wanted to make sure they were open. As soon as we got there with our three small kids, the staff, our waiter especially was so nice and brought water and crayons with paper for the kids. Live music was great and not too loud. The reason for the 4 stars– the drinks were good but not great for $ 12 bucks each. I would like to taste tequila in our margaritas. The plastic seahorse hanging off of it is cool and all but three kids in the city, mama needs that kick! However it was still refreshing. Food was great for the kids and prices were fantastic. My husband loves his meal. I liked mine– I would try something different next time. Tacos are my fave and these weren’t the best. However — they were tasty! We will be coming again soon– to this hip, one of a kind and much appreciated family friendly spot!

FINALLY made it here for Wednesday night — oyster night! $ 1 oysters after 5PM. My friend and I tried all three — raw on half shell, baked, fried. OMFG All were SO delicious. We also shared the Fish and Chips basket — HUGE portion! Three pieces of fish, couldn’t finish it after the oysters. Happy hour until 7PM — I had a regular margarita for only $ 5 :) Can’t wait to come back for more oysters and margaritas!

One of my favourite places to eat and drink in NYC. Tucked up against the Brooklyn Bridge at the edge of the seaport. This eclectic bar/restaurant has an easy going atmosphere with great food and awesome frozen margaritas. Always great songs playing on the stereo. Sometime times they have live music too. Can get busy but worth going out of the way to come here. $ 2 mystery shot is always worth a punt. Sister restaurant to Cowgirl Hall of Fame in the West Village.

The concept of this restaurant is really interesting. You see cowboy things and you see beachy things. It feel like you’re eating at a shack by the beach. It’s probably fun to come in the summer when it’s hotter out. The food has tex-mex and seafood, but they’re separate things on the menu, not a fusion. I went with the oyster po’ boy which came with fries. One of my friend got one of the fish sandwiches and we both didn’t understand why they don’t put the lettuce and tomato in the sandwich for us. Overall the food was okay, but more bland than I’d like. They were having a promo and gave us free bud lights after, so that was nice! I don’t think I’ll be back as I felt disoriented at this place.

There’s something about this place that makes me feel warm inside. It reminds me of shops on the Jersey Shore boardwalk. It reminds me of the beach. I love their nachos and by the looks of my friend’s face when eating the other Mexican choices on the menu, they loved it the food too. I love, love, love that the bar doesn’t have a «theme» per say. It’s beachy and Mexican? It’s located way off of the«main» areas and can be a little hard to find. It’s on a corner on the quiet Front Street. When in the area, you must check this little joint out.

Having a sis who is a Grouponholic means that sometimes I am the beneficiary of her generosity, usually when the Groupon is just about to expire. I never believe in looking a gift horse in the mouth, however late it gallops in, and recruited another eager sis to join me. The gaily colored Christmas lights decorating the door to Cowgirl Seahorse were like a beacon to warmth on one blustery night. This has all the ambience of a weathered tavern, from the dim lighting wooden walls to the hodgepodge of hanging decorations of mulitcolored crêpe paper, with some paper things that I figured out were supposed to be round fishes. We promptly declined seating at a slanted table. Sorry, but anything with an angle of 45 degrees or higher should be an exercise board, not a table. We started with the chips, the cowboy caviar and the guacamole. Unlike other Unilocalers, I found the consistency of the guacamole just fine. Everything had good flavor, albeit the cowboy caviar lacked the sweetness that I liked in some that sometime included diced pineapple. The portion was good. I was already starting to get full from the chip and dip. Sis’s fatigue evaporated as soon as she had her frozen margarita. I rarely drink and tequila gives me a rash, but the waitress informed me it was rather weak so I decided on one also. Their margaritas are pretty good, with a great lime slush, served in Mason jars with seahorse twirlers. It was a good size. My baked oyster appetizer was delicious, with its crumb coating and lime cilantro butter. Sis, tired after a long day, was recovering quickly, polishing off her shrimp bisque happily. She only paused to say it was yummy. My entrée choice was the blackened whitefish, a dish that surprised us by how spicy it was, and both of us have good heat tolerances. The fish was fresh, the side of bok choy it came with fabulously crispy, the dirty rice a bit hard. The fish is a definite must for anyone eating here. Sis regretted ordering the Shrimp and Grits, another dish we split. Perhaps it was because Sis declined to have it sauteed in bacon, but the shrimp came out curiously bland, in a sauce that seemed like tomato sauce seasoned lightly with Tabasco. The grits, laden with butter, were good. The quality of the shrimp was disappointing, all uniformly sized and with that pinkish hue and texture that identified it as that processed, peeled, frozen shrimp you get out of a bag. Not good, considering in nearly Chinatown, I can order a cheap takeout and the shrimp will be fresh. Our Groupon deal included 4 margaritas, but light drinkers, we converted the unused two to coffee. I guess at a bar/restaurant at 10 pm, the only coffee you’ll get is instant. Thankfully, alcoholic libations had made Pickiest Sis mellow, so «Folgers» didn’t become her mantra of the night. Coffee was a bust, so we moved on to dessert. The Groupon included dessert, but all the choices were unavailable. Geesh, can’t they keep some key lime in the freezer? Did all the Easter Sunday diners finish everything? The very sweet waitress apologetically offered us sundaes. They were okay, three scoops of vanilla ice cream with some chocolate fudge sauce and a smidgeon of what she said was fresh whipped cream. By then, we were too stuffed to really care. On Monday nights, the place has live music. We listened to a trio that crooned out folk and some country tunes. Décor is charmingly haphazard, as if someone with questionable crafting skills but humor decorated with found junk and flea market finds. Tables were white, on iron legs. They really need to lose that inclined table, though a couple came in later and was seated there and didn’t seem to mind. There were some rather cute wooden signs in the bathroom. One bathroom was already dirty by 8:30 pm, when we arrived, so staff needs to watch that. There is a back room. Our waitress was lovely, mellow and obliging, and so was the bartender, a lady we never spoke to but wished us a warm thanks and goodnight. The Groupon is a good deal if you can drink and can eat all that food! A nice place to pop in for a drink if you’re in the area late at night, and a meal if you know what to order.

Had a late lunch and we order blackened fish tacos, chicken quesadilllas and the nachos with chicken and shrimp. All the food came out pretty fast. The tacos were delicious, served on soft tortillas, pretty good size portion of blackened fish with a side of guacamole and sour cream and fresh slices of lime. The quesadillas, were just ok. Not something i would recommend. The chicken and shrimp nachos were good but pricey due to having ordered it with 2 proteins instead of 1. The food was pretty good, had a great time and we ordered a couple of blue moons by the can, since draft was not available. Service was fast and efficient as always.

My boyfriend & I came here on a Sunday for lunch around 1. The place is pretty tiny and wasn’t busy at all but I would be interested to see what it’s like on a weekend night! I had the pulled pork tacos with the lettuce wrap and the portion was huge. The pork was delicious & I was I was able to finish! My BF got the buffalo chicken sandwich which he enjoyed and it was also an extremely generous portion. The only thing that wasn’t great were the fried pickles. I was so excited for them but the pickles were cut into really big pieces and the breading was falling off so I just stopped trying to eat them after having two bites. Would definitely come back with a group — especially with the great prices! Service 8⁄10 food 8⁄10

I’d have given them 4 stars if the guacamole weren’t the consistency of baby food. My cheese enchiladas were decent but definitely had that«let’s microwave this» feel.(Especially since it was served on two plates. Nonetheless, they weren’t horrible. If you’re not going to be attentive to refilling the water cups perhaps you should serve it in a BIGCUP. Orangeade wasn’t what I thought but still tasty. Not a good kids place so please get a sitter!

I had passed by this restaurant multiple times in the past but never walked in. It is all the way at the end of Front Street so I’m sure many people don’t realize it is there. I have to say this place was GREAT! We came for my mom’s birthday and made a reservation for six people for a Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere here is very casual, funky, colorful, and has a Hawaiian theme. The music was fantastic! The service was very good — the staff was very attentive. The food and drinks were both outrageously delicious. I will have to come back so I can try the rest of the menu! I highly recommend people to check this place out!

After being a customer for three years and happily bringing everyone I know here and telling everyone else about this wonderful spot I am questioning my future relationship with Cowgirl Seahorse. On the past THREE occasions all occurring since about late November I’ve experienced horrible customer service from three different employees. This says something. This says a lot. This says it’s not an off night, or an employee who’s got to go, it says that this is the new Cowgirl Seahorse standard. I just don’t know how I will remain a loyal patron.

So adorable. Good food. Real quirky atmosphere. If you want to make the walk to the seaport from anywhere else downtown that isn’t… well, the seaport, do it. I stumbled upon it one night and am glad I went in.

Came here with my boyfriend. We both ordered margaritas the large nachos and I ordered shrimp tacos and I think he ordered beef. The nachos were bomb. The flavored margaritas are really good but food is eh. I don’t think this place is somewhere I would come back again unless it’s for happy hour or something because the prices were not to reasonable either for the drinks.

Met here for a mid-week happy hour with friends. Stayed for the speed-trivia. The chicken wings were superb — you could taste the smoke in every bite. Sangria was good as were beer prices. Wish this place weren’t so far off the beaten path though

From the moment that we arrived at this restaurant they made us feel right at home. My friends and I had a Groupon for a complete meal with Margaritas. Our waitress, Lisa was a sweetheart and gave us excellent recommendations. From the tortilla chips with fresh guacamole & bean salsa, Shrimp Bisque, Fried Oysters, Shrimp with Grits, Barbecue Ribs with Mashed Potatoes and ended with brownies. The margaritas were so good that me and my friend only drank 1 and ¼ of our 2 prepaid Margaritas. We definitely will be coming here again.

They’re getting a low ranking due to their ridiculously slow service tonight. It shouldn’t take 15 mins to crack open a Tecate and shove a lime in it… Sorry that you’re pissed you have to work tonight, staff. I go into work annoyed to be there most days, but still manage to do my job. Its been ok in here most other times. Sometimes even awesome. Maybe it’s an off night… for the entire staff…

Visit Date: November 7, 2015 My friend picked this place to have her birthday party. It’s very interesting. The décor mimics the name, as I saw one seahorse, a bunch of sea/beach items strewn around and a bunch of cowgirl/western décor everywhere too. Also in the mix gnomes were a repeating theme. The seating was tight for us I’m not sure the restaurant is meant to accommodate groups of ten or more. I shared the sweet potato fries appetizer with my hubby and I ordered the bayside burrito for dinner smothered in salsa verde and jack cheese. I found the meal to be just okay. It wasn’t awful but it wasn’t really memorable Mexican to me. It was so unmemorable in fact that I had to look up the menu online to remember what I ordered. Based on what I ate here I would say come more for the interesting scenery and possibly drinks, the food is just decent though.

The corn dog appetizer was great, fried crispy instead of soggy. And the fried oyster po-boy was pretty spot-on! I’d suggest dressing the po-boy with the toppings(lettuce, tomato, etc.) BEFORE cutting it in half. Adding those things afterward was a bit tricky. Great looking drink specials, too! The atmosphere is delightfully dive-y, but not rundown. I’m gonna have to try this for an evening drink.

I went here recently with a group of 4 friends, and I really enjoyed myself. Sometimes my stomach really acts up and I can’t eat some of the seriously delicious concoctions on a Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant menu, but I was pleased because my friends informed me of their taco bowl, that fit my dietary needs.(Sounds so gross and weird, «dietary needs,» but LETMELIVE!!!) Anyway, I ordered the bowl, which was gigantic and totally delicious, and I still felt perfectly fine afterward, which is honestly all I can ask for in a meal. The price wasn’t bad, either. The only downside is its location. LOVE the Financial District, but it felt like walking there felt like it took an eternity. It was worth it, though, once we were there and my tummy was full.

I called in for a burger and fries for pick up, i was told 30 mins to wait maybe less as it was busy. I decide to head out and go press my luck at the bar to see if i could get service faster. The force was on my side, as i walk towards bar, i tell the bartender that i had placed an order for take out but that i changed my mind and i would have my meal at the bar. I sat at the end of the bar and my burger and my beer were served within 2 minutes of sitting down. Wow, talk about lightning speed, i was happy and very satisfied. The place was busy but somehow i got lucky today. Best Pat Lafrieda burger ever. on a lazy sunday night!

I went to this place with a group of friends on the Friday night before Labor Day weekend. Now I don’t think it’s fair for me to really talk about anything but the food and drinks here… this city is relatively dead on this weekend, so regular crowds and lines aren’t something I can credibly attest to. I can attest to the total fleekhooditude of their frozen margaritas though! Seriously, if Fleek Foxes and the Demon Barber of Fleek Street had a baby, those margaritas would be THAT baby. Anyways, I’ve never been one to adequately describe drinks, but they get you drunk and they are muy delicioso! As for food, we shared an order of pulled pork seahorse nachos and rattlesnake bites. The seahorse nachos were layered with jack cheese, jalapenos, beans, pico de gallo, guac, and sour cream. These were very good, not great: I would order again, but not something I would consider particularly memorable among the array of nachos I have tried throughout the years. The rattlesnake bites were the highlight of the experience: roasted jalapenos stuffed with shrimp. While VERYVERY spicy(these were S-P-I-C-Y), they were also spicy. Seriously spicy. Also, seriously flavorful. However, if I was allowed to Unilocal review my subsequent bathroom…“cleansing”, I would give it no more than two stars. The service also deserves a nod in this review; they were very helpful in both serving us and advising me on what to do on my cow-lick(I asked, because I’m weird and trusting of absolute strangers’ opinions, especially those whose living is contingent on tips). I can’t wait to go back; especially for their trivia and $ 1 oyster night!

Oh my. Get their frozen margarita! The best I had in a long time. I had the plain pure one, but they have many flavored options. Cowgirl Sea Horse it’s a tradition in South Street Seaport historical district. Used to be called something else, but it’s still the same funky happy bar with great cocktails, bites, and atmosphere. Definitely a must in the neighborhood for after work good time.

I had high hopes for this place. I really liked the space itself, including décor, layout, and design. Unfortunately both the service and the food were complete misses. Every time we wanted to order drinks, food, or get the check, we had to chase down a server and it would take forever for them to actually get what we asked for. Our waiter looked like he was extremely overwhelmed and I have a feeling that they were understaffed as it seemed other tables had the same issue as us. Moving on to the food we ordered the nachos to share which were decent but nothing to write home about. For my main, I ordered the meatloaf, which was the«special of the night». It surely was anything but«special». I thought it was quite salty and I wasn’t able to eat more than a couple bites. I also got to try the fried pickles which I don’t recommend at all. BTW, our waiter forgot to put in the order for the pickles so we ended up getting them after we were all done with the meal. At least he apologized and didn’t charge us for them. Maybe I went on an off night, however won’t be returning to find out. And based on my experience I can’t recommend this restaurant to anybody.

We came here with a large group of 12 or so for a Friday evening reservation. Two people were 30 minutes late and yet we STILL didn’t have room for them regardless of our reservation. When an additional table did become available, we were a bit taken aback by how rude the man who moved it for us was-it seemed as though moving a table 3 feet to the right proved incredibly inconvenient for him. Our food took FOREVER to come out. I understand that we were a large party but over an hour for our entrees? That seems a bit ridiculous. Was it worth it you ask? No. I got the bayside burrito which was good. No option for meat though which I thought was interesting. The burrito was decent but I would have been far happier stopping at Chipotle. My manfriend got tacos and the general consensus was that they were not worth $ 16.50. Our bill came and we were told that it was«a 3 credit card minimum.» I have never in my life heard of such a rule but we put three cards in the bill and wrote down what to charge to each one. Instead, our waitress charged 1 card once, 1 card twice and 1 card not at all. When we approached her about it, she immediately became defense and threw up her hands«I did EXACTLY what you asked!» We won’t be back.

2.5 stars for MEH. Literally. Pros: * Fun and lively décor and good for groups of up to 6 people. * Yummy sweet potato fries and enjoyed my Blackened Fish Tacos– flavors were on point and fish was fresh. Cons: * It was so loud that we had to sometimes shout to carry a conversation * Felt like the place was way understaffed because the service was stagnant if not nonexistent. Throughout our meal we continually asked our waiter where certain orders were. He also knew how slow it was and even apologized twice and gave one appetizer to us gratis. * My strawberry margarita was more syrup than anything else and wasn’t mixed at all. * Although the nachos came in a sizable portion, there was way too few toppings for the amount of chips it lay on so there were plenty of chips left uneaten. * Although the Fish Tacos were delicious, I wish there was more fish for the price. The side of beans tasted like someone poured a teaspoon of salt on it. * My bf’s meatloaf was OK. Will not return. UGH.

Come here for a quiet dinner. It’s a little out of the way, but a quiet place. I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. If you wanted that, this is a good place to get it. I wish I had ordered the shrimp and grits. Maybe another time.
