Awesome for a quick alternative to walking to china town. Snooty people who shop at whole foods should not go here and review. High volume seafood places all smell like fish! Great place to save money on groceries!

Haters — This ain’t Whole Foods. It’s a chinese super market. It smells like fish, there are funky dried mushrooms, selection can be a bit spotty sometimes, and probably nothing is organic. Hoity-toity folks can head on over to $$Union Market$$ if they can’t handle it. You’re not here to buy the best, you’re here to get decent groceries without spending $ 50! Shop like you’re in chinatown. Check the produce before you buy. I don’t buy the meat/fish. I’m cautious about the dairy. I buy most of my produce, eggs, canned/dried stuff here and save A TON on groceries. Haven’t had a bad experience yet. Just know everything in here is mostly 30−50% cheaper than what you pay for at Whole Foods/corner deli. Spices? $ 3.99.(as opposed to $ 8 – 10!) Nutella? $ 3.99. Cheap cooking supplies. I’m so glad this little piece of chinatown is in the LES! I hope it doesn’t get turned into a place that sells $ 16 scotch eggs.

The store is 1min from my place but sadly i can’t shop there. The supermarket smells like rotten spoiled food which is scary as they’re are selling«fresh» fish. How fresh is that? I dared to buy milk and it was spoiled despite the fact that the date was still good. I guess freshness is not their priority so best to avoid unless you d like risk food poisoning.

Their $ 5 lunch/dinner combos have come in handy in a pinch. And on occasion I’ve had their dinner combo for $ 2 when they’re cleaning up – perhaps not the best food option in NYC, but I’ve loved it nonetheless

If you are looking for Asian products, you have a 50% chance of finding it here. If you are in the market for edgy meat, seafood, and produce your odds get bumped to 100%. The smell… dear lord, the smell… Stay for the Asian groceries, if you can hold your breath that long.

Markets and local grocery stores in the area have decreased, but Clinton Supermarket is one of the few spots that is still surviving in an area of bars, restaurants and boutiques. They have many popular grocery items, but mainly focused on Asian products. If you want fresh fish they have it here, but that’s the only downside about the market smelling fishy. Meat is ordered to your liking and cut. There’s a mini food station that sells lunch box specials. If you want to play some lotto or scratch offs in hopes of having more money to shop, this place is really a jack of all trades of shopping. There are frequently crooks shoplifting at this store, but its great that they post pictures of them. If only they offered a reward for their capture, so I can have more money to shop.

My go to Chinese grocer when I’m at by Sugar Sweet Sunshine and too lazy to trek to Chinatown for groceries. Clinton is smaller, and has a somewhat grungy atmosphere to it no matter what day, time or season I shop there. But it’s convenient to the F train stop when I need some fresh tofu or some Chinese sauces and for some reason, I like to go in just to watch the line at their takeout buffet side. I never had the courage to buy anything because I like my cooked food sold separately from my groceries items but the Clinton seems to do a brisk business with their 4 choice medley for $ 4. The fresh vegetables and fruits here don’t seem to be as fresh as the ones in the main Chinatown area; my guess due to a slower turnover and I say buy the seafood at your own risk. I have seen people buy the fresh meats and haven’t read any articles about corpses piling up due to rancid food from this place. I did notice other Unilocalers did say they sold expired food. I always check the dates and have never and problem though I never buy in the quantities I do at say, a New York Mart or Hong Kong supermarket.

Watch carefully what you put in your kart: most of their items are expired… That’s why the grocery bill is less expensive. Examples: juices, pesto, any cheese. WATCHOUT for food poisoning…

January 8th, the one time I go there for a 2 liter soda and don’t check the expiration date. Seemed a little bland and just a bit flat. Turns out it expired in October. Good thing I didn’t get something that actually makes you sick if it goes past the expiration date. Getting my food at the Essex market from now on.

This supermarket is average. They have everything from groceries, produce, raw meat, live fish, cooked meals, to household products. They would get three stars for average, but their groceries are rarely fresh and the place does not seem hygenic.

Disgusting!!! Rotted Chobani yogurt with mold inside. How does one manage to grow bacteria on bacteria? We’ve lived above this market for years and have had problems with seafood, vegetables and now yogurt. The only thing I feel safe buying there is canned soda, and even thats a risk.

Clinton Market has quite the variety. In fact, as I was checking out, I noticed that they had TUNAJERKY on display. I bought a pack and the flavor was incredible. It had a nice kick to it and had me wanting more. I will definitely buy this product again. I urge everyone to do so, as well.

Clinton Street Supermarket saves my ass on a regular basis. It’s a typical Asian market with a fantastic selection of seafood, produce, condiments and canned goods, Asian and American convenience foods. and even a hot food bar specializing in cheap Americanized Chinese food(I’ve never tried it… I don’t really like Americanized Chinese food!) This isn’t like the typical Chinatown haunts that are notorious for being unclean and foul-smelling: even in the summer with tons of fresh seafood on display, this store NEVER smells bad. Ever. And they’re always tidying up(mopping/etc). Nothing is ever spilled, the aisles are always stocked. The food is always fresh and keeps well, everything from different varieties of bok choy and cabbage to the fresh shrimp that they sell for a mere $ 6.99/lb. They even have some pre-cut veggies for a penance, as well as a small selection of dairy products, juices, and cat supplies(Purina food and Fresh Step Litter… for the cheapest prices in the hood) The people who work here are always very friendly, I think in part because they recognize me from seeing me in the store so often. They are always willing to help you look for something or hold your stuff up at the counter while you go back and get another box of Panda cookies(fo serious…). A great little neighborhood grocery with good prices and a decent selection, wish they were open later!

Have you been searching NYC, high and low, for pork intestinal bung? Me too. And I’m glad I finally found it at Clinton Supermarket(see photo). In truth, this is one-stop shopping for all your odd animal product needs. They’ve got tripe, oxtail, whole pig’s ears, black chickens and rabbits. Not sure what to cook that tripe with? They have all sorts of Chinese sauces, spices, etc, and any kind of Asian noodle you might want; I was trying to make a certain recipe(not tripe), and they had all the ingredients I was looking for. Also, if you would like to cook enormous amounts of food that will keep everyone from hooking up, they have a torso-sized jar of peeled garlic cloves for $ 10. Best of all, the fish market is CHEAP. I bought a pound of tilapia fillets for $ 3.50. And they have Pocky.
