The little liquor store that could. I stopped in here on the hunt for a liqueur and bitters, but didn’t expect to find the bitters so I wasn’t too disappointed or surprised when they didn’t have it. I was pretty pleased with their liquor/liqueur selection and found what I was looking for, and the two guys working were pretty friendly too — asked if I needed any help pretty quickly then kind of let me browse(all liquors are behind them/the counter and all the wines were available for perusal on the other side) until I asked for a bottle. I was in the store for ten minutes, and the entire time, one of the guys was dealing with this lady who was on some other drug/alcohol induced planet and accusing him of stealing her cellphone. It started before I arrived, but it was pretty clear what was going on, and he handled it pretty well considering she was dumping all of her crap out of her pockets on the counter and insisting that he took it. The mystery was unsolved by the time I paid and left as she was still standing there, telling him he had her phone. I would have sassed her right out of the store.

Stopped into City Hall Wine, en route to dinner at my friend’s apartment. I assumed I could find an average bottle of sauv blanc, but was pleasantly surprised by their overall selection of wine. On this hot summer night, I selected bottles of both sauvignon blanc and rose. Both choices paired perfectly with our spicy dinner. Prices are relatively high for the neighborhood, but the location is convenient when escaping 5pm FiDi traffic.

A surprisingly good selection of wine, but you would expect the prices to be better, given the ambiance is linoleum floor /TV blaring, and hardcores coming in for their half pints of cheap vodka. As it is, the prices are the same as any other local place. Given a choice, why not walk down the street to Chambers Street Wines for an enormous selection?

I have been here a few times to buy wines and it is definitely a place I would keep coming back due to the friendly service they have. I have no complaints! Plus they are decently priced being in the Tribeca area. I am actually passing by again today to get some Rose Champagne for a gift.
