OK, this is my first review. Just an FYI. I spent a shit load of money here a couple of months ago because I wanted the whole Christian Audigier SoHo boutique experience. And who the hell cares if an overly aggressive-in-your-face t-shirt is on sale for over $ 100? Well, I didn’t eat for a few days which was fine by me. But the fact is that the amount I spent there was as much as some peoples rent in the city. Stupid? Perhaps. But the people that run this boutique are what I would constitute as being. well, not that bright. Everytime I tried on a T-shirt or hoodie and came out to look at myself in the overly dramatic mirror, this weird foreign lady that was decked out head to toe in Audigier, kept telling me «Oh ya. Ya. Dhat is hot.» or, «No. Ya. This one looks best» and then giggles. OK, that’s cool. I have nothing against a person whos English is a second language but still likes to give their opinions. But the kicker was, the dude that was actually helping me. When he told the crazy price four pieces of clothing cost, he says«Wait. Hold on.», and then he runs to get another over-priced t-shirt and says, «How about this?» with a huge smile. I start laughing and say, «Um. Maybe next time.» In all honesty, this place is a little bit of a joke. «Designer» t-shirts that make the rich look trashy gangstar. It really does just scream«I HAVESOMUCHMONEYANDAMWILLINGTOSPENDITALLONCLOTHESWITHRHINESTONES&PATTERNSTHATLOOKCOOLWHEN I’M HIGH.» Again, I came for the experience and was very curious. If you have any sort of individuality in any capacity, you wouldn’t be shoppipng at this boutique. But if you like shinny stuff that costs as much as a romantic meal at Per Se, and feel the need to fit in with the club crowd of late 2006, then my god, this place is for you! I proudly wear my Christian Audigier when I’m on the floor cleaning my kitchen and bathroom. It makes me feel like I belong.

It seems like every time a fashion label manages to hit it big to become the next hot mark, for however briefly, their first move is to open up a SoHo boutique. Unfortunately, often times, the boutique seems to outlive the brand’s actual status. Christian Audigier looks to be a perfect example of what happens when labels opt to cash in via mass-marketing, as opposed to taking the status route. Audigier the designer started by putting out the label«Von Dutch» and its now-infamous trucker caps. He’s now moved on to the flashily designed t-shirts of his own namesake and his other label, Ed Hardy, which used to be sported by famous rappers and Beckham-type athletes(just like the Von Dutch cap and its Ashton Kutcher-beginnings). Nowadays, Audigier and Ed Hardy t-shirts can be seen primarily on suburban teenagers and Long Island barhoppers. When I entered the Audigier store on Lafayette, the first thing I noticed(besides the walls full of $ 100 t-shirts with gold iron-ons) was a not-particularly fashionable family of European tourists. All of them, from the father and mother down to the young son, were decked out in Audigier t-shirts. I left.

The name just sounds cool, lol. The creator of Ed Hardy using tattoo artwork of Don Hardy. Also creator of SMET, a Johnny Hallyday Brand; Crystal Rock; and, the forgotten Von Dutch, which he separated from. Christian Audigier is like the godfather of street chic, turning tattooed-rock n’ roll inspired apparel into a phenomenon. His designs are flashy yet fashionable and colorful. My lil brother is really into Christian Audigier brands. Mother bought him his first embellished studded panthers and skull satin lined hoodie and the rest was history. The clothing looks great on guys and are quality made. It’s not my style but I do rock the converse-like sneaks — very comfy & cool.
