Choza Taqueria is one of the few decent places to grab Mexican food in the Flatiron area that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. While they serve excellent taco, burritos and tamales, my favorite thing to order is the fish tacos. I also like to come for their breakfast menu; breakfast burritos, breakfast tacos and even tamales with a poached egg! If you order take out, they even give out Cholula hot sauce packets to take with you.

Good place for basic Mexican food — can’t complain about the food, but not too notable(I mean, it is NYC after all). Tried this place on a whim with a friend after a long day at the U.S. Open, and it was exactly what I needed in a time of near starvation. I had the chorizo burrito and my friend had the pollo tacos, and although both were fine, they weren’t anything to write home about. Would I return? Perhaps, but only if the places around this one weren’t open.

One of the best Mexican places in the city. Great food great location. I go there all the time and the staff is always excellent.

Each time I come here, the staff is sitting in the back just hanging out. The employees aren’t the best with their customer service either. Their food is decent, but after my third less-than-average experience there, I probably won’t be a returning customer.

Stopped by here on a monday night, a few seats only were available. I decided to go with the bowl(carbed it up all day) and put in the steam with veggies and corn, was a touch spicey but not bad. The white rice was pretty bland, not bad late night eating food I suppose if your on mcdougal street, but Id not venture here for a quality mexican dinner.

Hankering for a filling lunch, I went to McDougal for a stab at Saigon Shack only to be greeted by an egregious line. Wanting to try something new, I saw this near-empty place and decided to give it a shot. Ordered the Carnitas Burrito($ 9) and a side of Guac w/chips($ 3). Burrito is huge, but completely lacking in any distinct flavor. Had to add hot sauce for every bite I took. The guacamole had more taste to it, but no kick at all(they do give a lot of chips however). On the flip side, service is extremely fast, and they do provide a solid selection of hot sauces. I don’t like the elevated portion of the table for the sauces though, it decreases room to place your meal. Value-wise you can do better in the area.

I’ve eaten at Choza a few times. The first was delivery, and everything was way too salty. I wouldn’t have gone back except my friend was craving Mexican food and it was nearby, so we went and ordered in person. That time was better: I got a Carne Asada Torta, and the meat was a little hard to chew but it tasted alright. I’ve also had the Carnitas Burrito Bowl; it wasn’t especially flavorful so I doused it with the to-go hot sauce packets they provided, but the portion size was huge. It could have easily been two meals — I was extra hungry so I ate most of it and immediately regretted how full I felt. I also regularly get the Chips and Guacamole, which is quite good and relatively cheap($ 2.99, and it was plenty for one person). Service is always great, and the people who take your order are very friendly. A solid, acceptable spot for when you’re craving Mexican food that’s slightly better than Chipotle.

This review is strictly for delivery. Expected delivery on seamless is 15 – 30 min. I got a call 45+ min after my order saying the delivery guy came to my apartment and asked around and nobody knew who I was(?!) Not sure who they asked but I asked them why he didn’t call me when he was at my apartment. The woman on the phone said they didn’t have my number which doesn’t make sense since she JUST called me. When I called her out on that, she said the delivery guy will come again. When I finally got my food, the brown bag was soggy because my burrito was smooshed and everything fell out of the wrap and ALLOVERTHEBAG. The container for the burrito bowl was also smooshed. I will post my pictures. I can’t comment on the taste since everything was obviously cold and soggy after 1+ hr. The grilled corn was soggy… And the tortilla in the tortilla soup was mush since it was sitting in there for 1+ hr.(Regardless, it was too salty for my liking.) Also, I felt like the woman on the phone/delivery guy was pretty rude… pretty much blaming me for everything even though they have my number and it’s kinda common sense to call when he arrives.

Choza slings solid tacos and burritos at reasonable prices to hungry, befuddled tourists and hammered millennials stumbling down MacDougal. They also do delivery, which makes for a pretty quick way to enjoy them from my place. Dine in if you need to, but it’s more of a pit-stop than a place you can spend some time in. Prices are reasonable, similar to other burrito joints.

I come here pretty often and really like the friendly staff up front. The woman is so warm and welcoming, like seriously! The place is tiny but cozy and there are a wide array of sauces for you to mix and match. I generally get the chicken rice bowl which has some interesting taste profiles compared to chipotle. I had to knock off one star because this place does not prepare its own food. I believe they get deliveries from another, larger store. I don’t like the idea that the food is not made on the spot. However, the food always tastes fresh to me, so I’m hoping that the deliveries occur constantly.

The food here is not bad. It is different from Chipotle if that is what you are looking for, but to me, it sort of lacks interesting flavors in the same way. A lot of the stuff here is too salty. The burritos are bad, and there are vegetarian options to be had(but those all lack protein, of course). The service is ridiculously fast, which belies the fact that all of the food is prepared in advance and sort of just stews for a while(even the seafood). Basically, their model is similar to Chipotle or Qdoba except that you don’t see them make the food under a sneezeguard. If you want dank Mexican food, go to the taco truck formerly known as Taco King(now called Sidewalk Tacos) a few blocks away. This place is edible, and if you need food immediately and don’t feel like waiting in line at Mamoun’s, this isn’t a bad bet. Otherwise, meh.

Mexican food is my comfort food, but I was left wanting more after my lunch here. I did one potato/pepper taco and two shrimp tacos. The potato and pepper taco was better of the two in terms of flavor. Perhaps it was the small size of the shrimp, but I did not find the shrimp tacos to be flavorful. I have read reviews for other taco joints where people cite the tacos as being too small, and usually roll my eyes when I see this in a review, but these tacos were in fact too small. I don’t know what size tortilla they use, but I had never seen a tortilla that small before. They were kind of cute in fact. I would definitely go with a side of rice and beans with your tacos. 2 stars for food, but I’m kicking it up to three stars because the staff was so nice.

There is only one reason you should ever come to Choza but even then it’s debatable if it’s worth it. I’ve had their tacos and I’ve seen their menu. The two issues I have with Choza is their portions and pricing. On top of that it’s not really anything special here. It’s just another mex joint with small portions for like $ 9-$ 12 a piece. Their tacos are not worth advertised price even though they do have a kick. Now the only plus to this place are the tostadas. The bread is perfectly toasted and melts in the mouth. Not too hard not too soft– perfect. The ingredients that go into it are the same as for burritos and tacos but definitely that sandwich was small. But tasted bomb… is it enough for me to keep coming back… Eh not really.

2.5 stars for this quick mexican joint that offers tacos, burritos, rice bowls, salads, & something a little different TOSTADAS. just choose your meat/veggie filling to customize! if you want to eat in there are 2 counters of seating WITH hooks under the table for your bag!(always a plus for me!) i didnt’ see an option to order single tacos but you can mix & match which 3 fillings go on your plate —chicken tortilla soup: not the best i’ve had, but not bad —Chips & guac: chips were a bit too salty, guac was nothing special —torta w chorizo: the chorizo seasoning reminded me of instant noodle salt which was a bit odd —carne asada burrito: mehhh NOTE: Free chips & salsa with loyal blocks app check in THANKS paypal for the freebies

It is a well documented fact that this lady loves her Mexican food fare. Solid flavors, fresh ingredients and for the love of your insides get anything with the steak or mushrooms and you will not be disappointed. In all honesty, Ive fallen for those so hard I cant say that I’ve tried the chicken. Guacamole is standard fare but gets the job done. Sure I know the owner and a former student worked there but I still get my fix of goodness whether they are there or not. You should too.

Coming in for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon, we were the only ones in this«Mexican» eatery. We decided on burritos which were GIANT. Enough for me to get 2 meals out of it, and a good value for $ 8.(They were filled with a lot of rice… but I’m Asian, so I’m ok with that.) My Pollo Burrito had a tasty citrus note, and his Carne Asada Burrito was nicely marinated. A variety of Cholula hot sauces were also available on the counter for added spice. The quiet & friendly guy behind the counter was unfamiliar with LoyalBlocks, but redeemed our offers for free chips & salsa from the app anyway. Thanks to the generosity of PayPal and LoyalBlocks, we had a feast with nothing out of our pockets!(Although I’m not sure I would come back without using them.)

Ordered 3 tacos and I was allowed to mix and match the types of protein. –Chorizo — Probably my favorite choice compared to the other meats. –Pollo — Tasted like shredded chicken that you get from vegetable tomato stew. Not the flavor profile I was expecting. –Carne Asada — flavorless, I think I could’ve managed to dice up meat into small pieces and thrown them into a taco myself. Each soft taco is slightly larger than your palm size, piled high with your choice of protein. It was a good portion size just enough to stop you from tipping over the edge into a food coma, but I wouldn’t recommend if you’re starving. Although if you want a good side filler, order the cheap and portion friendly guac and chips! Sizes small or large depends on how much guac you want. Seating inside is limited inside! 2 wooden high tables with stools to fit at most 10 – 12 people sitting down.

Another hole in the wall discovered thanks to paypal! Was grabbing ice cream just down the street and decided to swing by to check this place out. After reading Allene T.‘s review(hi love!), I learned to steer away from tacos and went with the burrito bowl instead. Chicken burrito bowl with a side of guac for exactly $ 10. Although it wasn’t eaten for another 3 – 4 hrs(after battling the harsh winter journey home) and it had to be reheated in the toaster oven(it came in an aluminum box — not so convenient for leftovers), I still found this dish to be really enjoyable. The chicken is the shredded which is not the diced kind you would find in chipotle. It stayed pretty juicy even after reheating. The salsa, bean, and guac were packed with flavors. The white rice was well cooked and had nicely soaked up the juice from chicken, salsa and bean. I didn’t even have to douse my bowl with hot sauce which I usually do at other Mexican restaurant! I enjoyed the bowl so much that I came right back the next day —(the carnita burrito bowl — good but the chicken was more flavorful!) The man behind the counter was extremely sweet. He immediately recognized me on my second visit. In fact upon receiving my order, I was also given a stamped 3 times loyalty card(even tho it was only my second visit aka second order). Yummy food and friendly, warm, fast service — Will definitely return to check out the rest of the menu and especially the veggie options!

$ 10 credit here via PayPal. MEH. I had just had El Diablito Taqueria the night before using PayPal and came for tacos 2 days in a row due to my friend not wanting Indian. So I was kind of off a taco-high and expected a little more out of Choza Taqueria. There was only 1 person working the entire time and she was telling me about her work experience so far working by herself, which sounds miserable and stressful. Service was meh. You get a free drink for checking into the restaurant on Facebook or posting a picture on Instagram, which I had stated I was going to do, but was still charged for a drink and it had already gone through on PayPal. Whatever, cost me like 50 cents or something. Still annoying though. The food — I got 3 tacos — steak(extra $ 1 for steak which was NOT worth it), chorizo(basically smashed up meat that tasted nothing like any chorizo I’ve ever had), and carnitas(I had to think about this one since it was obviously not memorable). These tacos were small and cold and just not tasty. I left wanting more. Tip: douse your food in the large selection of hot sauce available.
