I had a weird vibe about this place when I walked in today but it was a break from the rain so I stayed. It’s a weird narrow layout so the place itself is not aesthetically pleasing. The food was below average and gave Chinese takeout a bad name.

Just say no to this Chinese food restaurant. The white rice looked stale and left over and the garlic sauce caused heartburn! We ordered as a group at work and we were all disappointed.

I got take out for lunch from here. Place is decent, prices are very reasonable if you are looking for decent food in Midtown Manhattan. I got chicken dumplaing and it was pretty small in size. I had dumplings many times at other restaurants so I know there sizes. Anyhow its near to my job so easy to get take out if I am craving asian food without spending more than $ 8.

I have been passing by this place for the longest time and finally tried it today. I would say the food is just average. The service was pretty good. Maybe this was why they were able to survive in midtown.

5 stars reflects the dedication and welcome of the hands-on owners. Very old school and low key atmosphere, especially at dinner time. Excellent value lunch specials, too.

Average food. Nothing to write home about. They do have a good priced«moon box» available only during lunch. Basically what makes it different from a lunch special is there’s no egg roll or soup, and I think may be slightly smaller portion size. I don’t mind though because I’m trying to go easy on the wallet and easy on the waist. One of the cons of the«moon box» is it’s cash only. Regular menu items, to use a card is $ 10 minimum. I like to use my CC, cash reward points and airline points. I don’t think i’ll be coming here again unless I’m willing to order at least $ 10 worth of food off the regular menu

The Pad Thai was undercook and just thrown together and smothered in a watery sauce. It did not taste great at all. The vege roll was good.

Actually the worst Chinese restaurant I have been to I think out of all of the ones I’ve been to around the world. Because of the other reviews I went safe with a noodle wonton soup… I am pretty sure there is 0 salt in anything in my soup, or any other flavors And, wife’s pineapple fried rice came out red colored! The tea was good, but thats from a tea bag. The whole meal came out to $ 27 with a 15% forced onto the bill(maybe common in NY?)

This place reminds me of the neighborhood Chinese restaurants we would go to in the 80’s. Just the décor, furniture, something about those red vinyl stackable chairs and decorations. Lunch menu is respectable and cheap. It’s American style Chinese at its finest. Don’t expect any more, don’t expect anything less.

Horrible food. Ordered the baby shrimp in garlic sauce and schezuan beef. Shrimp came with shells still on the back and in brown sauce. When I asked the waiter about the sauce, he insisted it was garlic sauce. Beef was even worse– tasted like they dumped the entire can of salt in the plate. Completely inedible. First and last time here.

Very efficient service. Been ordering take out from here for a few years now. Never dissapointed me once. Lunch special is always a solid choice!

Not sure why this place has so many 1 star reviews because I came here expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. Like another reviewer mentioned, I also came here because Katsu-Hama next door was packed for lunch. The food here is decent for the price. We ordered an orange chicken and a fish filet with vegetables lunch specials. The chicken came out hot and crispy with a lightly sweet orange sauce. The fish filet had a more subtle, light flavor with an opaque sauce paired with stir fried vegetables. It was not bad. Is this the one of the best chinese restaurants I’ve been to? Far from it, but as far as I can tell, the food is fresh, well prepared, and fairly priced. I’d come back here if I needed a quick fix of chinese food and didn’t want to wait too long for some of the more popular restaurants. 4⁄5 stars to offset some of the 1 star reviews.

Came here for lunch because the Japanese place next door was packed. Chinese food were eh. Service was lacking, but that is usually the case in Chinese restaurants. I ordered vegetable fried rice with my meal, but they forgot. At least they removed it when I told them. Not surprised at the quality though due to the location the business is in.

Very small portions. The guy lied how long it would take to get ready. It was way too spicy. Pretty much wasted my money. I wish Unilocal had negative stars for my visit.

I ordered Special Red Curry Chicken(TL8) for lunch today and I was shocked beyond words at the sight of it. There were only 4 small pieces of chicken in the soup with tomato and green pepper .I was surprised. I ordered curry and I expected real curry. But it was a soup and the thinnest soup ever. Moreover the rice included was almost half the normal size given in other Chinese restaurants. The taste is nothing remarkable. I paid $ 8.50 for that. I could not understand that how can they sell like this in New York City where there is no dearth of quality lunch at reasonable prices .I suppose this is cheating the customers. I took the picture of chicken soup to show my co-worker and she also surprised. Compare to the other restaurants around this area, their portion is significantly small. The question is how can they do business in New York City? Never again.

This was the worst bowl of wonton in history! This place looked like it was new. I did my research and found out they just switched the name. Well even with the new name the food is horrible. This place is dirty and nothing is fresh.

Food and customer are horrible. I had to get my own menu. Food tasted old and sprinkled with tons of MSG.

I used to work next door to this place and it used to be amazing… about 5 years ago. I was hugely disappointed when I was in the area and decided to visit again — absolutely filthy(think: flies everywhere, dirty glasses). It was never like this before… but it also used to be packed and now it’s empty during lunch. Not good. I like that they have a choice of thai or chinese on the menu and I used to love the staff, but now the place has really gone on a downward spiral. If you do go, the singapore noodles and chili chicken or fish were always good. Not sure if it’s on the menu anymore as this place seems to be changing.

China Moon is the first restaurant I tried following the corporate move to Grand Central. As a newbie to the area with a heart for the underdog and noticing the below average stars, I decided to give this place a shot. Surprisingly, my experience here was contrary to the majority of reviewers. Perhaps it may have been the dish I ordered– See Ew Noodles or the day I went, but I enjoyed the service and the food which was delicious with the right balance of veggies, meat, and noodles, heavy portions for $ 9. The only complaint was the $ 2 soda in a can, no refills. Seriously overpriced a bit? Note the items on the front menu and back menu are no different, just categorized by fried, sauteed, and soup.

It wasn’t horrible. I guess I’ll leave it at that. The pad thai shrimp was decent(I’ve had worse) the shrimp were small and not much taste. The orange/tangerine chicken was pretty good though. Lastly we had the red curry which was spicy but that was all that was good about it. Very watery and I didn’t like that the chicken was shredded. Wasn’t the worst Chinese/thai food but I’d probably skip this place
